❤😊
Very helpful 👍🏻
looks good keep happy scouting!
I love this
Does it include the recipe for cooking snipes ?
for how many hours it can light up?
Nowhere on Thomas Jefferson's crowded tombstone inscription is it listed he was an American President
😢
Good point on the Family Life MB. Excellent list too. One that can closely follow these might be Scouting Heritage. So many scouts are exposed to good things in the scouting program and they don't "get it". I think Scouting Heritage bridges the gap.
Good choices of mb
It would be fun to gather some names the the youth of today would recognize. Sports figures, actors...
This is great info. Thanks Dave, I miss seeing videos from you. I will have to go and rewatch some and relearn the stuff you have taught before.... I pray you are well! Steve
Scouting is the best and my daughter's are in scouting 😊
Great video
Thank you for making this video. You mentioned that the same 7 events are run each year. How has this worked to repeat the events? How to Scouts respond thst have done it in previous years?
The scouts enjoy the events as they are all team building type events that are common to scouting. Another district has run a similar event with different events yearly. In both events there has not been a significant opinion by the scouts either way.
Great recipe!
Some of those names were not surprising but, some of them were. Really interesting and informative.
That was AWESOME video. My troop was asking about famous Eagle Scouts. Who they were and they know of them. I would always come up empty in my searches. This will help me help them. Thank you.
I've always thought that the merit badge program was a stroke of genius
Our Council (same as yours) has WAY to much just in time with communication. Feel like I am getting many notifications about events a few days before.
can you do a video about making an axe yard and the rules about it?
Good to see you still posting videos
Thanks for sharing your cast iron inventory & storage rack.
Great idea & tip! 😎
Whoa where ya been lol
I'm a Girl Scout leader, but I find your content so helpful and applicable to any scouting volunteer.
Thank you! Please share!
Only about 50% are trained? Are you referring to leader-specific training (which I thought was mandatory for recharter) or training like Wood Badge?
Leader specific training is not mandatory. Your council might specifically mandate it, but Youth Protection is required by all.
i wonder if the NFL ever folds the flags they use
I think this is going to be harder for me than it will be for my son.
Hi, Like your sled, ut can't fin the plans you spoke about. Thanks. Tom
The sled plans can be found here: www.scoutmasterdave.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/klondikeSled.pdf
Thanks!
Wow that's nice
wasn't able to find the plans?
Thank you
can you share that one page on knife safety. thanks
The toten chip one-pagers can be found in the show notes here: www.scoutmasterdave.com/036-36-knife-and-axe-skills/
Wow. Makes me wish I was in the scouts now
Superb take. I have a bit of experience under my belt so I know a lot of this stuff BUT you did just convince me to take a poncho on my next trip. Weight is a huge issue so I was undecided.... you just made up my mind. Thank you.
You deserve a 1000000 subs
I am a new SM and trying to find information about troop organization, trailers and patrol boxes has been so difficult. I am so glad I have found your videos.
I was awarded the arrow of light. My mother was very proud that day
Unpopular opinion. Boy scouts sets you up for the Marines/ military. We do drills like Marines and army (without guns and gear for war) we do patrols, we stand in formation kinda like they do, we weight train sorta link they do. It really does
Thank you
Do you carry any water purification, or just rely on boiling?
Very good info, realistic and well presented. I first camped with camp scouts in the Peloponnese , Greece (1974) and in a week will assist the leaders of 14 Cubs camping in a remote cove of Mykonos island (2022). Only difference, back then the rocks were good enough for my back ; now it needs a camp bed and inflatable pads. Stefanos
Great tips wow thanks!!
I have always disliked the idea of a secret, exclusive group within Scouting, which is supposed to be inclusive. I attended Scout summer camp for four years. After the first year, I declined to attend the campfire at which boys were singled out for the OA ordeal. I wanted no part of a secret society. I stayed in Scouting long enough to become an Eagle Scout, then went on to other things. My achieving the rank of Eagle helped get me an appointment to a federal military academy and, by putting it on my resume, got me several good jobs later in life. Being an Eagle Scout caused people to recognize that I was an achiever. No one asked or cared whether I had been inducted into the OA.
Do you teach skills like sharpening and oiling as part of tool maintenance? Is there ever a point where the scouts are allowed to carry fixed blade knives such as a Ka-bar or a Buck 119 or 120? And do you ever teach skills like knife or Axe throwing? I know it might seem like a liability in this day and age, but I'm going to tell you word for word what my Scout Master said to us when he taught us how to throw. "I know you idiots are going to try this anyway, so before somebody winds up bleeding line up I'm going to teach you how to properly and safely throw axes and knives."
I’m going on my very first week long Scout camp. I’m going because the troupe needs adult leaders. I know nothing about Scouting. I appreciate your clear well thought out videos. Question. Where are the show notes?
Show notes can be found at scoutmasterdave.com. For this video, visit: www.scoutmasterdave.com/scoutmasterdave-14-scoutmaster-minute/
Hello! My troop and I are participating in the Klondike Derby this year and I was wondering if our sled was okay. We built our sled out of Trees we cut down and sawed to size, wooden pegs to keep things in place, and twine and rope to lash it all tougher. We used no metal nails or screws what so ever. Do you think our sled would be okay?
A troop did something similar at our last pinewood derby, with all lashings. Make sure your lashings are tight, and be prepared to check and re-tighten them along the way. Also watch out for the weight, as it sounds as if it might be a bit heavy, so add additional ropes to pull it as needed.
Sounds heavy... you can use donated downhill skis and scrap pine lumber is what I know... 😉
Watching this before my eagle board of review yo study thanks 👍
