Приєднався 17 січ 2024
Welcome to Hunting for Gills, a Channel dedicated to outdoor activities, primarily fishing, soft plastic bait making, maybe a little Bee Keeping, and some recreational shooting activities. I've been considering starting a channel for a while, and given my interests in the outdoors, fishing, DIY bait making, shooting, and video/photography, it seemed like a great idea. Only time will tell how it evolves.
I have a family and work full-time as a heavy equipment operator, so I juggle many responsibilities. Whenever I can find the time, I go fishing and spend time outdoors with family and friends. My goal for this channel is to capture and share those adventures with others.
While the focus will be mostly on fishing and related topics, you never know what you might see

Fall Panfish Fishing Tips: Targeting Crappie Pt. 2 #HuntingForGills #PatriotBaitMolds #MaculaTackle
Made a move from the last video-still the same day, just switched spots a bit. This time, I was all in on targeting one species: crappies. I mixed it up, trying a few different jigs with live bait and plastics. Plus, I hit a pretty cool milestone in my custom bait-making journey. Watch to see what it is...

Fall Panfish Fishing: Where to Find Them Now Pt. 1 #HuntingForGills #PatriotBaitMolds #MaculaTackle

Got out for some fall fishing to take advantage of the season before the lakes freeze up! The game plan? Target some panfish and scout out the best spots to hit when the early ice season rolls in. I’ll be honest-I usually struggle to find fish once the water temps drop and the weeds die back. But hey, that’s all part of the challenge, right? While I was out there, I couldn’t resist testing a fe...
Rainy River Chaos: My Wild Adventure to Catch a Personal Best Walleye! #walleyefishing

Spring marks the end of walleye season on Rainy River, and it’s always a bit of a crapshoot. High water, low water, ice still thick enough to drive a truck on, tributaries breaking loose and flooding the river with mud-it’s anyone’s guess what you’ll get. Sometimes, the water’s still too cold, and the fish just aren’t ready to make their move upriver. And that’s not even touching on the boat an...

Nice Mold Man I Have a Question Are These Your Ideas / Designs Or Are Or Are These Designs From The Mold Company Thanks
The one with my logo on it is my own design, I gave him a rough sketch, he did the CAD drawings. The others for are his designs that he asked me to evaluate, and they are all working great. He has since done another one for me,similar to the first, just a bit smaller. There is a clickable link my channel description. Thanks for watching.
@@Huntingforgills Nice Man Thanks For The Reply How Much Did He Charge You If You Don't Mine Me Asking
@@FRANKRICECOLD209 He has different prices depending on if you need something drawn up, or just one of the molds that he’s already making. I believe he has info, and pricing on his website (Link is in my channel description). He’s been working on it, and updating as he goes.
Nice work! Looks like you had then dialed in! It's awesome to catch fish on baits you made.
@@positivelyfishing1810 Thanks Paul, I appreciate your support, input , and all the great stuff you put out. Not sure you remember, but I was the guy you included in your video from last fall that came out on Thanksgiving. That encounter, was a huge factor for me as to whether or not I was going to pursue doing a UA-cam channel. Thanks for the comment, and see on the river soon Tight Lines buddy.
🥰🥰
I ❤ the commentary- you’re hilarious and fun to watch! 😂❤
Thanks, sometimes I’m just there for comic relief, to help launch the boat 🤣.
Beautiful fish on what looks like quite light gear, well in. G
@@GsTiteLines Yeah, they’re pretty cool fish. We were targeting walleye, so he’s probably running 8-10 pound line. We usually accidentally hook into a couple of those every trip. Thanks for watching.
What do you coat your finished plastics with for storage?
@@tinfore After they have cured for a day or two, I have a plastic tray I drop them in and put a little worm oil on them, and work it in. Doesn’t take much, and any excess stays in the tray, then it gets to the point where what’s left in the tray is enough for another batch or two. I do have a couple bags that I used mineral oil instead of worm oil, and they have been sitting in it for a few months. I wasn’t sure how it would affect the plastic, but doesn’t seem to be having any effect, so that would be another, and cheaper option too. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching.
Good video, I've always have had great luck when fishing with a good warm.
@@baddinosaur1548 Thanks, plastic worms are my go too for bass pretty much any time, always have at least one rod, if not more rigged for drop shot, and wacky jigs. Thanks for watching.
Check out do it molds they have a finnese worm mold 5 cavity for $43 and in my opinion they look way better they also have some other good molds like Ned rigs and many other but they are a lot better then the stone ones too
@@Thegolfkid2030 Thanks for the tip. I just couldn’t pass up trying this one at under $20. I did actually take advantage of the BOGO sale Angling Ai was running on open pour molds, and will probably do a video on it, I went with a 4.5” bot worm. Thanks for watching.
There are no products on there!
Sorry about that, this is just getting off the ground, I’m currently working on a long form video on a custom mold I had him make for me, and that video will have his contact info, he didn’t have a website up and running when I made that video, sorry about that. I will tell you, all the ones I’ve been using are pretty nice.
@@Huntingforgills yea I figured and I wanted to possibly order one for my birthday that is coming up soon!

This is a nice little mould! However those ridges should have been deeper, like in the bellows gill
Thanks, and thanks for watching. These are actually for Ned Rigs, so they are pretty much just a short fat little worm, smallmouth seem to like them in crayfish colors, I did these in a clear with June Bug core because it showed up better on video. Thanks again.

@@GretchenCarlson Thanks, and thanks for watching.
Nice Bait, cool video Subscribed 👍
Thanks, got plenty more in the works.
The point&shoot thermometers don't give you the temp of the plastic below the surface, I highly recommend getting a $10 digital probe/instant read thermometer. I use one from the grilling section at Wal*Mart, it takes temperature over about 5 seconds. Not instant-read, but pretty accurate. Edit: Forgot to mention, you might want to look at Do-it molds. They have an "Essential Series", cast aluminum molds for ~$50. I have 3 of them, another on the way. They're decent. You still need oil or mold release to get a good shine on the baits, but one spray will set you for 5-6 injections. Edit 2: Didn't see you had a second (and third) video up already, one covering your experiences with different types of thermometers. Whoops.
Thanks for watching, Whoops, I just read your whole edited comment after I finished my response, you can read it if you want, but, I also have a couple more videos on custom molds the works, the unboxing one should be tonight, and some shorts on some prototype molds are on the way too. Someone actually suggested that to me shortly after this video came out, so I did another video comparing the two different types of thermometers. While the point and shoot does only get the surface temp, it does work good if you check as you are mixing, or shooting a reading off your mixing knife after you have been mixing the plastic. The probe thermometer I was testing would take a while to get a steady reading (there are probably faster ones). I do find myself now using both when I'm mixing liquid plastisol, where making sure you're hitting the 350 degree range. Thanks again for watching.
I can’t stop watching- it’s mesmerizing! 😆😂🍗😋
They sure do create a distraction 😂.

I would definitely be interested where can I purchase
@@Nick-yi9dr Thanks, this is a brand new startup, the molds are on there way to me now. Once they’re here I’ll try them and do a video review of them. Subscribe and keep an eye out, hopefully something by the end of the week (actually next, since it’s Saturday). Thanks again for watching.
Well you lost me with the mayo and yogurt. You don't eat what you made is garbage to me. If anything you should have mixed the yogurt and mayo into the fish just not on top[ of it.
@@tomscorner3656 Well, that’s about where I lose people, that’s why I stopped telling them until they’ve tried it. Trust me, I did eat most of that myself, and it was my first cooking video. I thought it was one of the best batches I’ve made, and I have been making this 5 or 6 times a year for the last 25 years. I’m not sure how it would work mixed together though, the fish cooks in its own juices in the bottom of the pan. I appreciate the comments, I’ll eat what I cook next time on video, and see how that goes. Thanks again for watching.
June bug! 😂
Nice video sir. Ive been considering the molds on Amazon to get started myself ✌️🎣
@@MyAngleFishing Hey thanks for watching, hope you got something out of it. I also recently did an update video to this one, on the things I’ve learned since I made this one. I checked out your channel, and subscribed, I like what you’re about, and pray you have many more years of fishing ahead of you. I think you would probably enjoy making baits. I know do, in fact I just finished shooting footage tonight, for a video on packaging baits for the hobbyists. I feel that stone molds from Amazon are a good way to get into bait making without investing a ton of money. Feel free to reach out, and don’t forget to subscribe. Have a great night.
We want to see you take a bite!!! It looks delicious! 🤤 😊❤
@@GretchenCarlson Nobody wants to see me eat.
No we don't. Nothing is worse on a cooking channel or vlog than hearing the cook "MMMMMMM" or smack on their own food. Because the cook is going to diss himself on his own channel if it didn't turn out perfect? No. Every single online cook needs to stop ooohing and aaahing after shoveling it in their hole like their noises are more compelling to me cooking it than looking at a finished dish? He did it exactly right and everyone else should follow suit. Especially the cooks who try to talk while eating it and/or smacking into the mic.
@@Swearengen1980 I’m not eating on film, but I’m almost never satisfied with the way things are when they come off the smoker. Other people say it’s good, but I’m pretty hard on myself when it comes to low & slow cooking.
@@Huntingforgills In fairness, it can be hard to love your own BBQ for some of us. When you've been saturated in smoke for 12 hours, it just makes it less appealing than if someone else did it. But I also assume, if you're like me, if even 5% of that pork butt doesn't completely render out, you consider it a failure.
@@Swearengen1980 I have always been picky about what I make, and usually feel I could have done better. It’s hard for me to judge now, I survived a battle with throat cancer, a little over a year ago, and everything is dry to me, and my sense of taste really hasn’t gotten back to normal either. So there’s worse things than not enjoying your own BBQ. I do have a couple more recipes I want to make videos on, so keep an I out.
You need a temperature gun. So you actually know the temps of the plastic. Then you won't burn it
@@ThomasRay-qj4zm Thanks for the comment. You can check out my channel, I have another video on comparing thermometers, and of course the video that this is the update for, and I was just saying that you don’t need to get remelts as hot as liquid plastisol. Thanks for watching.
I actually like this video. I had know idea that the Ameriglo optic sent with the promo came with its own plate. I’m ready to put mine on now….thanks.
@@chriscorbray4457 You’re welcome. I had heard of a lot of issues with trying to get the right plates and miss matched screws, but they included the correct plate and screws, it went together perfectly on the first try. Thanks again for watching.
I’m putting mine on this weekend. I couldn’t tell, but does your dot line up with the front site…if not, how much higher does it land. I ask because I’ve had my PDP for almost a year now, and finally got pretty good with the sites it came with. You should add some range shooting or targets you used.
@@chriscorbray4457 Thanks again for watching. Yes your front sight should line up with the dot, and they should both line up with the white line in the center of the sight, as far as windage goes. For elevation, when you're looking at the dot, start dipping the gun down, and with the front and rear sights and the white line all lined up, the dot should settle right at the top the sights as the front sight disappears. Of course you will want to go give it a try at the range, but that should get you close. Hope that makes sense. Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions, I'll help if I can.
Hey Mike good job, I was wondering if you have considered using those A clamps or I think they maybe called Spring Clamps? They bite down pretty hard and seem like they would be quicker/easier to use. If anyone else has tried them leave a post letting us know how they work. 👍
I do have some, but I don’t think they are big enough. Might have to get a couple bigger ones, and do a comparison video. I did one comparing thermometers already. Working on a panfish cooking recipe video this week, keep an eye out. Thanks again for watching
I follow many other channels like this and you are truly the best. Waiting for the next video. ❤❤

Best video ever 👌
Thanks, appreciate that, and thank for watching.
Man, in terms of oil, have you tried WD40? I shouldn't say it, but, accordingly to some old riverbank boys, works great also as scent for lures...
Yeah, I’ve heard that over the years, but I’ve never tried it. Maybe next time I’m on a hot bite I should spray my bait with some and see if they keep biting. Might make a good video. Thanks for watching.
@Huntingforgills , I was thinking in terms of lubricant for the mould with a view of having part of it left of the lure... not sure it's environmentally friendly solution as lure scent! 🤪
@@Marcuccioperca 🤣 yeah you’re probably right, funny some say all petroleum (gas, oil, and the like) repel fish, and I know I’ve heard the WD40 as an attractant from way back. 350 degrees its faringet?
@@legendflyorgil1513 Thanks for watching, and yes it’s 350 degrees Fahrenheit. I’ve also learned since I started that the 350 degrees is more for using liquid plastisol. The liquid plastisol requires that temp to cause the chemical reaction to change from liquid to a solid. Just about any Themp that turns the baits you’re remelting into a liquid will work, usually around 250 degrees or so. Good luck, and again thanks for watching.
