My emotions used to cry out in anguish when all the outside noise left, and I was finally alone facing myself; happiness too would leave with the noise. That is when God revealed to me that without joy, happiness never lasts. Happiness always functions best when rooted in joy and can be likened to a thermometer that registers conditions while joy is similar to a thermostat that regulates conditions. I failed before and stayed frozen in that moment of failure for many years afterward. I realize now that I wasn't ready for the growth; it would have destroyed me.
