Great idea and I just did the same thing to my new Marantz TT-15s1 and LOVE it! This turntable is a great value for what you get and sounds better than TTs I previewed at 2x the price. I also used a small LED to back-light the motor/belt pulley because this table/motor is so quiet and the platter so balanced you can't tell it's on. Thanks for sharing.

That is one hell of a light show. Using a white light with a spinning coloured vinyl is a cool thing to do. All that is required now is for him to attach the turntable belt... and listen to music.

Many tapes, particularly from the late 70s-early 90s, absorb moisture from the air and become sticky. That would explain the squealing and slow movement. If there's something you really need to recover from that tape, you can "bake" it at 130F for 12 hours or so and get it to where you can safely copy it, but I don't suggest recording on tape with that condition. Be sure you clean the machine thoroughly before trying to play anything on it because the binder from the tape sticks to the heads/guides.

Had the same exact thing happen to me and my two brothers in the late evening on the west end of the island. Switched off fighting that thing for hours into the night. Finally decided to just real the damn thing in and let the line break if it was gonna break. It broke…. Always wondered what we had on the line. Passers-by speculated a ray, or a turtle.
