About the life and career of Darryl Starbird and the Starbird Rod and Custom Car Hall of Fame Museum
As a kid, Darryl's cars were a dream. A perfect storm of hot rods, the future, your pre-license dreams in full color. Thanks to my dad for taking me to several of his shows in OKC. Batmobile, the Hulk signing autographs, Rush's 'Tom Sawyer" echoing in the arena. : )
I went to his car shows in Wichita for as many years as I can remember. They were in the old Forum building downtown. One year we watched Roy Orbison perform on a small little side stage. Before he became famous. Those were the days! My brother went to high school with Darryl Starbird and I visited Darryl's shop with my brother a few time. I saw the Magic of how he created. Amazing to this day.
Girl you been a good personal friend to me for many years I'm thankful and glad to know you and your wonderful wife Donna
Crazy telephone Daryl is what I meant to say not thanks for being a friend
THANK YOU SO MUCH. PLEASE CONTINUE TO SHARE YOUR TRUTH.
His museum is amazing. If you love cars, you have to go see it!
Fantastic I'll see if I can pick the book up I live in Minnesota so I'm sure one of the bookstores are online I can get it thanks Darryl and all those that helped you family and other mechanics to be who you are today much appreciated
interesting
Ron Aguirre built the first bubble top vette in 1959 in California.
Most interesting.
I built the Little Coffin model, and my brother built the Silhouette. Love this stuff.
I wish I could still get rod&custom magazine
Someday I hope to make it over there. We live in Jay.
Great video, they should have a hall of fame here in So.Cal where hotroding started.
I own four different Starbird, Barris models that I built as a kid back in the late 60s/early 70s. They sit near my 1/4 scale visible V8 w/ motor to make it "run" and flashing "spark" plugs I made and added w/ some early LEDs. I built the V8 at age 15 and took a week to build it, taking extra care prepping all of the moving parts w/ emory cloth to make sure everything operated smoothly and doing my best to hide the wires that lit the LEDs. Fun when folk come over and see an engine running, some for the first time, which stuns me, personally, being such a gear-head. lol
Killer. Loved it.
Thanks Darryl..!! I enjoyed the Museum and meeting you.. A dream come true. You were most generous with your time, and hospitality.. It was a pleasure to meet you and Donna, and enjoy seeing the cars and museum again..
These cars live in tornado alley. Think about that.
HI Daryl, I have an idea for your grandson. he should gather all your tech articles in one book, that way ,the new people to the art can see how it was done in the day and also how us old timers can reminisce about the glory days.
too much yammer not enough cars.
You had to be a teenager in that Golden 1955 to 65 era to understand what the Predictor and Forecaster were....they were a mind blowing glimpse into the future. I went to the New York colliseum Kustom Kar show, went up the escalator and at the top the first car in the show you saw was....the Predictor!!!! WOW People's eyes were bugging out, you were instantly blasted into the future!!! Tell you what,...if Mr Starbird had just stopped there, he would have been a national car design icon.
Be nice to take a trip to the States or USA

talk about a blast from the past
boooorrinnng,show more of that elcamino
As awful as this is (poor video quality, bias statements, dated vehicles, etc.); what new cars will possibly be in museums from now? Shit's depressing.
Justin Flynn there's a lot of new cool thing's still being made, the price of used teslas, are getting low enough for normal guys to afford ,I love the idea of a 4 door super quiet sedan kicking hellcats to the curb in the quarter mile, they are gonna be beasts with street racing.
Teslas are for assholes!
Tesla? Tf out here
Tax exempt? That train of 'tour the stars homes' in the background behind Connie is hilarious....
STAR KUSTOM SHOP ココはまだやっていますか? 俺の大好きなマシンが一杯だ♪
Too much talk and chest thumping, and not enough CAR footage! But thanks for the video upload!
I was thinking the same thing....
so,what about Tom Daniels? is he not in the scroll list of designers ?
A true Car Guy, an innovator, and one of my personal favorite designers.
The museum is located in in Afton, Oklahoma, thirty-five minutes southwest of Joplin, Missouri off of Interstate I-44.
X
Video doesn't say where the museum is located
+Bio Power lol
Darryl , Thanks for making my childhood a great one through car design. I always loved them and always will. Never got to build one or even own one but love them all the same. They got me into model cars and later on into model trains. I now am making a living (in retirement ) on the model business. Thanks for all the inspiration! Mike
Not very inspiring cars. Not sure Kansas was cradle of custom cars for this era.
You'd be surprised Eldon Titus Wichita Ks. Ray Farner Raytown Mo.(I was told, developed first tooling for louvers.) Starbird Mulvanne Ks.
Them are some ugly ass cars yuck
FINS UP 👍 👍
Eric Polston I caught you straying away from RPeek's channel.
At 6:57 sound like somebody let off gas. Anyway this looks Like a show from the early 80s. Yes the people that lived in the 60s and 70s visualized at that time what the cars in the future would look like they came out with these ideas. Took vans and cars at that time and added bubble tops wide flares and other cool stuff. But now I quess we can call them 60s and 70s future cars or future idea cars
I had no idea this was based in Wichita. We need to do a road trip this summer.
Mattel Hot Wheels made some of them too,I recognized at least one i had as a child, a bubble top , Imagine how many kids played with your cars ,held them in their hands too ?
No way bro, Fwd is so equestrian!
Awesome! Was great to meet you, your wife & your grandson at the Street Rod National show in Louisville, KY. It was the highlight of the show for me. Thanks for the autograph & T-Shirt. I left with a Star Kustom Shop T-Shirt, from your grandson's business too.
Everyone has to show off and brag all the time. Name dropping, greed, and star in movies. You have to run a business, and cater to the wealthy...
one of my first models was the bubble-top. didn`t it also have a record-player? damn i`m old. and the car shows.(k.c. mo.) i remember you, breedlove, travolta, morganna, batman, and many more, over, the decades. will not buy your made in china models though. i know, why not put a factory in kansas. get the koch bros. to chip in. buy american! stop the greed!....
This is a old one Chip Foose was inducted into the hall of fame in 2003 or 4
