You should prime your oil filter with oil. This will prevent low oil pressure at the bearings, and lifters after an oil change. Rule of thumb amongst mechanics. If the oil filter is vertical on the vehicle you fill it prior to installation.

The 5.3 V8 holds 8.5 Quarts of oil and that is just a reason that these engines are made cheap.Must be too much blow by on the pistons to have the oil get dirty using 8.5 quarts of oil on a 3,000,4,000 mile interval oil change.

what mobil 1 filter do you use?

I have a 2005 Silverado 5.3 with the legendary iron block LM7. Crazy that it only holds 6 quarts all in. I've used both Amsoil and Mobil 1 with good success

They should be beaten for putting the drain plug in the horizontal position. I suggest using a very wide drain pan as the fluid shoots out fairly far.

I would suggest that you fill the new oil filter partially with new oil before installing and tighten the filter an additional 3/4 turn after hand tightening. I would also highly recommend that you run the engine after fill of new oil and after shutting down engine closely visually check the new filter for any leaks both at the sealing to block as well as confirming there is no leaks in the new filter construction. I have found some new filters over the years to have defects and even a rare one with a pin hole in the metal filter housing. There is also a torque requirement for the drain plug...

The v-6 requires 5w-30.

What type of fuel do you use? Regular or premium? The owners manual says stick with regular for the new 2016 but premium feels a bit better when accelerating. Plus better mileage on the highway.

Why doesn't Mobil 1 offer the 15,000 mile guarantee in the 0w 20 weight? The closes I can get it in is the 5w 20. Mobil 1 with the 15,000 guarantee is the only synthetic oil I like to use. (The gold cap) Can I use the 5w 20 synthetic in a 2015 Chevy Silverado with a 5.3?
