I've been depressed for a long time. Sometimes I think about suicide too, but that's not the only solution. just try to love yourself the way you are. Wilco=articulated talent Daniel Johnston=Raw rip your heart out emotion motivated by nothing other than emotion. I've wanted to hear his songs done over by bands like Wilco and Beck, but after it happened I realized why it wasn't a good idea. Not saying I don't absolutely love Wilco or beck or pearl Jam etc. but they move me with their songs and Daniel destroy's me with his. I don't think anything polished will ever have that much pull on me. I can't even listen to him that much and really don't care much for his voice, but even before I knew who/what he was I was taken with his work. I almost equate the first time I was moved by his music with the ego-death I experienced on a mushroom trip.

Bullshit. No song is sacred. All songs can be remade. Sone versions might be better, some might be worse. Some might neither better or worse, but just different. The only ones that are pointless are the ones that are so close to the original that they sound like they were recorded by a very proficient tribute band. Love Wilco, but this cover is kind of boring compared to the original. I like Mathew Sweet’s cover better, as well as a couple of live versions by The Flaming Lips. Lana Del Ray also sings a beautiful version of another Daniel Johnston song, Some Things Last a Long Time.
