    I had to get something embroidered for a friend and wasn't sure what stsbilizer to use. I went to a professional rmbroidery store, and the owner said she uses medium weight cut away for everything she embroiders for her cudtomers. It is a good stable foundation for the stitches, and anything you can't trim close to the stitches will devolve in the 1st washing

    • @kofoedsandy
      @kofoedsandy 3 дні тому

      Thanks. That's good to know. I'll put that on my list to try for next time. I like using the light weight no show mesh on the back with tear away because it lays flat on the back instead of being stiff and/or showing through, but I'll try all different ways. I really like using water soluable stabilizer on top, especially with anything woven like cotton or knit. It just makes the embroidery stand out. The stitching doesn't sink into the fabric. I've never been sorry using it, and it just disappears if any is left on top and I dab it with water and watch it disappear. Thank you!

    Can I ask you what hoop sizes are your favorite? I’m debating the Dime 10x10 or the Dime 8x12.

    • @kofoedsandy
      @kofoedsandy 25 днів тому

      I have the Dime 10 5/8 x 16...Which is good for big projects and edge to edge quilting larger quilts. I also have 9.5"x9.5" that I use for t- shirts and I used it to do the to edge quilting when I quilted that small piece of fabric for my bag class. There's a video out there about that project. But, I wish I had a 5x7 for smaller t shirts for kids. It's easier to maneuver the hoop around the small t-shirt. I guess it depends on what you will do. To me, it seems good to have a small, medium, and large if you can afford it... or just purchase in time.

    • @kofoedsandy
      @kofoedsandy 3 місяці тому

      Thanks! I changed my needle and tension, and it helped, but slow speed is good because we are also watching the fabric to make sure it doesn't fall into the hoop. Later, I examined the needle. It was bent. Good thing I changed it. It was pretty new. I don't know if I like Chrome needles. That one didn't last that long.

      I've been mostly using the babylock regular hoops. I've used a 9 5x9.5 dime hoop before for smaller projects. I used the babylock 10x10 magnetic hoop to do a border. It seemed very small, even for a border project. It was super expensive. This is my second time using the big dime hoop to quilt. The one short video I made is my first time. It should be great from what EVERYONE says.

    Sandy, how do you "pull" the end of the large yarn through to the back?

    • @kofoedsandy
      @kofoedsandy 3 місяці тому

      Hi! At first, I did what the manual shared... use an awl to poke a hole first, then thread a large eyed needle with the yarn using a needle threader and poke the needle in the hole made by the awl, and use the needle to pull the yarn to the back. But I've found that I can skip the awl step. I've been using the needle threader on a large eyed needle and just poke it (without using the awl) to the back to bring the yarn through. It seems to be easier to me. It may depend on the fabric. If it's really dense like denim one might need the awl....or really any pointy tool... if you don't have an awl. You can try a test area first if you're not sure.

      I just washed this sweatshirt. The stitching did not change. I'm going to stick to a no-show mesh and floating tear away on the bottom and wash away on top. I still have to try stabilizer on top that heats away, but it's on my list.

    May I ask you what stabilizer did you use that did not cause puckering? I thank you in advance for any suggestions to reduce puckering.

      I usually like to use water soluable on top and tear away on back.

    The design is looking amazing. I’m really new to embroidery but hoping to do more once I get more experience with my machine. I like to sew and hoping to quilt also. ☺️

      Oh, you sound so much like me when I got my machine during fall 2023. Now, I've started to do quilting. I did record some edge to edge border quilting, but my camera kept shutting off because I needed to delete some videos... not enough room. I hope to get enough subscribers to do longer videos live. Then, I think it's easier to share the techniques that take longer.

    Just found your video tonight. I’ve just got the Brother Luminaire XP3 machine at Christmas which is a very similar machine to your own. So I’m just learning to use it too. Really looking forward to watching your videos. Thank you for sharing. ❤

      Oh, I'm so happy to hear from someone. I'm somewhat new to UA-cam videoing. I record on my phone right now until I see if this amounts to anything. According to my research, I need 50 subscribers before I can do lives, which will help with doing some of the longer videos. Anyway, time will tell if I get there. I might do an intro video and share that information to see if I can increase my subscribers to 50 right away and see if I can do lives from there.

    Thank you for the delightful instructions on your design, especially what kind and how to use the stabilizer. Only problem, the camera is just showing a 1/4 of video on screen..

      Thank you for your feedback. Oh... was that on all three parts or just the last one? I will work on it.

      Yay! I think I got it figured out. I'll try again on a new video. There's no way to change these recordings from my research. Thank you so much for your feedback.

      Enjoyed your 3 videos. Hope you will continue making them. I am now interested to see if my machine has the app you spoke about.❤☺️
