Organic/regenerative dairy farm manager in Ireland.
I’m a Dairy farm manager from Ireland with few pigs horses chickens and sheep at home.
We have high cover swards and 70% of the farm in multi species swards to feed the animals and produce milk/beef/lamb/bacon from the land while putting back more than we take from it true planned grazing high swards.
We graze 40-50% and walk in the rest to feed the soil microbes.
True our farming practices we like to encourage nature and natural life on all land we manage.

Small bit of marking on the out wintering land
Переглядів 9021 день тому
We are out wintering some of the stock this year I don’t mind them marking land as long as they don’t damage it. There is a big difference in these two. Marking land means it will recover quickly like can be seen in the video. Damaging land is when the cows/cattle hooves are going down into the soil. #regenerative #farming #ireland #cows

We have let this field grow for the last few weeks and it will be let grow for another 2 months. We will use this to feed cows which have finished milking for the year we call these dry cows. By doing this we will : Reduce Straw use Reduce Slurry Save silage use Save machinery use Keep cows fit and healthy

Dear sir, How are you can to help me
How did this crop yield
nice grass
How did youd fine it for feeding value
When did you sow and when did you cut please. Thanks 👍
Wow they skinned it. Would you be worried it’s grazed too tight??
Not for the first one or two grazings as I’m trying to get the grass to tiller to fill in the gaps after that it will be grazed less tight
This is incredible. Quick question. Did you plant forage crop this year
@@martinhealy3741 sorry do you mean wholecrop Martin
Thank you for this, much love ❤️

Did your hens Hatch chicks
Hi Kevin just wondering how you got on with this. How did the multispecies establish after harvesting particularly the Plantain and chicory.
All established very well going at it again shortly doing 25 acres the same way

Really interested in this would love to see a start to finish videos of this process 🌾🐄
Are you just over sowing into existing award? What seeding rate?
Hi yes just overseeded into existing sward 2kg chicory 2kg plantain and 1kg of white clover
What kind of drill/Harrow is that, do you find it good?
@@counietom hi it’s just a 3 meter Kuhn disc with a app broadcast seeder on top simple but working well for us so far
Very interesting kevin. Top class video with great information... More please..
Super interesting. Are you achieving a similar growth without the fertiliser? What about longevity of the sward, how long do you think it will last?
Better growth than grass the last while with the cold weather only warmed up the last week or so. it’s growing more than the grass all year have a lot of it gone in the last two weeks and more to go in over the next while the chicory Will last around 3 years the plantain around five so easy to oversow them from what you save from fertiliser over that time
@@kevin1984984 fascinating stuff. Is the plan to use no fertiliser on this ground at all? What about if a paddock goes strong, could you bale it ok?
@@Panchdeburca yes that’s the grand plan to cut out baught in inputs and keep a cover on the ground to build soil organic matter true regenerative farming yes it can be cut and bales but would have to be dry weather and cut in the morning when the augers are in the stem and roots not in the leaf to keep reserves for rejuvenation of the plant again
@@kevin1984984 looks like this is going to be the way forward for Irish farming. Is the growth curve much flatter with the multi species, or still a big peak in April may and then falling away during the summer? Also can I ask which drill you use to oversow?? Sorry for all the questions
@@Panchdeburca your grand ask away it grows at the same rate as grass till the back end when grass slows down it stays growing longer into the winter I first grazed it 15 January after been saved off mid to end Oct we have a Kuhn disc with a broadcaster on top simple but effective
