Hello BJ. I believe I just read your dance miracle testimony from a Chicken Soup for the Soul book. I had tears streaming down my face by the end of your beautiful story. At 54 I am embarking on a brand new musical journey. It's not what you would expect. I am a heavy metal guitarist and songwriter. A spiritual metalhead if you will. My childhood life was interesting. My father died in a car accident when I was 3. I always felt I needed him more than other children needed their fathers because I was different. I was born #7 after 6 stillbirths and miscarriages. I was also born with 3 fingers on my right hand and 4 on my left. I was told the only instruments I could play were the drums or trombone. My mom would never allow drums. I learned trombone pretty quickly, it just never felt like me. My family moved to Minnesota when I was ten. There I became a fisherman and a pretty good hockey player. Music had always touched me but due to the negative comments from teachers and family i let it go. In 1985 we moved back to California. I was into heavy metal music but told myself I'd listen to whatever the kids did in my new school. One day while at a friend's house i was handed a guitar and told to hit all the strings with a pick. As I did so, my friend tapped on the distortion pedal and BOOM!!!! The feeling was amazing indescribable it was me! I instantly fell in love. I asked my mom for a guitar. "No! You will never play it" i didn't give up. Kept asking and came home one day from school to find a Roy Clark Big Note Songbook guitar on my bed. It was bought by my grandfather years before from a late night infomercial probably in the 70s. I slept with that guitar. Learned the Munsters theme off of the TV and Ghost riders in the sky from Roys song book. Christmas came and I got my first electric guitar and my musical journey began. Long long story short. I have played at the Whiskey a go go a dozen times. Played in front of record execs in Nashville been on TV a bunch and tiured all of California. I gave up metal due to the negative lyrics and only recently decided to form a heavy band with positive uplifting fun songs that educate and I hope inspire. Bj I am not sure if you'll see this or if you are still with us. I had to share my story. If even one person reads this long message and sees that anything is possible if you trust in God the universe and yourselves. Mucho love and light to all. I don't know you, but, I love you ❤️🎶
