I tried to look after my mother while working and trying to keep my own home life together. It was impossible and the reasons I put her into care were twofold: she was selfish and mentally cruel to me all her life, and I got so close to venting all my frustrations on her, I knew if I did nothing then she would be dead and I would be in prison. There are loads of us who understand this, Miriam. Thank you for starting the conversation.

I'm watching a few months after the event. As the sole carer of someone living with a rare Younger Onset Dementia, now very advanced after 10 years & living in residential care, I have to say that in all that time I had no time to myself, let alone watching a webinar or attending any carer events. We had no support from friends or family. My role, throughout 8 years, was constant except for the hours she slept, with just 12-20 hours of careworker support a week and very occasionally a 2-3 day break away every few years. Until funding for adequate in-home support is provided there is no point in any programs. The experience nearly killed me, literally.

Oh, Miriam you bring tears to my eyes. It is so hard. I tried to take care of my mother when she became crippled with rheumatoid arthritis but I was unable to and she ended up living her last years in a nursing home. It was so hard, working full time and have zero support from anyone. You are one of the nicest most beautiful people in the world.

My daughter experienced the same emotions and held me down when I was going through an episode of hysteria. It hurt deeply and I asked her never to do that again. However I too forgave her knowing where it came from and the fact she is my daughter. On the flip side I spanked my daughter very hard when she was a toddler as I was stressed and frustrated. I had an early morning meeting and was running behind time. I wanted her to move quicker. To this day, more than 22 years later I am still angry with myself for not handling the situation more calmly.

I love her attitude toward things. Unfortunately, it will take ages for the US to get anywhere near like the UK or Europe on important issues.

If her mother was not mentally well, then she was incapable of forgiveness. I certainly won't forgive Margolyes for striking her mother. Horrible woman.

You are such hypocrite whoever you are. I am quite sure you have never cared for anyone but yourself. You can’t hold a candle to Miriam and she doesn’t need the forgiveness from the likes of you. Take a good long look in the mirror and be ashamed of yourself and your nasty two bit comment troll.
