"This is the World You Wished For" | Conclusion to Evangelion Essay
Hey there! This remaining 30 minutes or Conclusion section of my Evangelion essay which you can find here: ua-cam.com/video/LuAaueikcbs/v-deo.html.
Abstract: Schopenhauer's Hedgehog's Dilemma tells us that the paradox of human intimacy lies at the heart of Evangelion. But how does this relate to the Human Instrumentality Project, on the one hand, and Shinji's depression, on the other hand? On first glance, the two seems opposed to each other. The former wants to unite all souls into one while the latter wants to be radically alone. Another problem is how do we theorise and connect all of this with Evangelion's overt references to concepts from philosophy, psychoanalysis and theology? Are they merely pretentious?
I think we cannot do away with these difficult theories. At the same time, however, I think we must avoid the common pitfalls of interpreting Human Instrumentality. It is clear that it is definitely not a conspiracy theory, as Alex Jones would have it. Neither is it a religious prophecy or the Gospel of the Next Century. Neither is it simply a euphemism for suicide.
Instead, I think that Human Instrumentality is the realisation of all of our desires. My wager is thus that truth of depression is none other than the Human Instrumentality Project. They are just different sides of the same coin. Different solutions to the same problem: the hedgehog's dilemma. Gendo and SEELE tried to annihilate the gap with the Other by making all of us One. Shinji tried to run away from the Other widen the gap through total isolation. And yet, both of their outcomes are the same: pure nothingness.
That is why to Shinji's great astonishment in The End of Evangelion, Rei tells him that: "This is the World You Wished For." Therefore, what is the solution to the hedgehog's dilemma? Well, ask Frank Sinatra. ;))

Unfortunately, there are little bits throughout the video that are trimmed out by UA-cam. This is the only way for this video to remain unblocked sadly. Someone under the name 'khara' pretends to be studio Khara or Khara Inc. has unfairly blocked my video. The claims were even incorrect as they said I had used clips from a movie called 'Neon Genesis Evangelion & Tool-The End of Evangelion and the Holy Gift'. There is no such film. This is very frustrating and unfair but I am helpless and powerless alongside many others to dispute this false copyright claim. In fact, my channel risks getting taken down if my dispute proved to be unsuccessful. So yeah, the only way is to watch the full video on the following links:

Massive thanks to my friends Mahmood, Weeab and Nezakki. They were kind enough to check on my progress and encouraged me to not give up. Without them I would have lost confidence in myself. *sigh why do we always criticise ourselves so much today? This is definitely the Freudian superego at work! Also thanks to Vuv and my sister for listening to my ramblings and frustrations. Even if they do not understand what I'm talking about, our discussions helped me organise my thoughts. And lastly, thanks to you guys on both UA-cam and Instagram for supporting my works since the beginning. This video is for you and thank you for waiting for more than a year! I hope it's not too difficult though, but I'm positive that Evangelion fans are passionate enough about philosophy and psychoanalysis. Feel free to ask me questions in the comments section!
Further acknowledgement, I owe my understanding of Hegelian dialectics to Maximilian Kostka's video. His visual animations made it easier to understand the dialectic: ua-cam.com/video/mh_KE4VwPDk/v-deo.html.

Intimacy and Its Discontents | An Essay On Evangelion's Human Instrumentality Project

Don't Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro | KiwicReviews #6

On instagram, I conducted a poll to decide my next video. The nominees were Darling in the Franxx, Inari konkon koi iroha, Nagatoro-san, and a second analysis for Welcome to the NHK. As the title indicates, the winner was Nagotoro-san. I do hope you will enjoy this video! During my semester break, I planned to make lots of videos (analysis videos). However, situations did not allow me as there ...
Her Blue Sky | KiwicReview #5

Her Blue Sky is a 2019 anime film and it's important to note that it shares the same director for Anohana the movie and Anthem of the Heart (2015). Personally, I didn't like this movie. Despite the great animation and theme song, I found the plot and characters weak. There were many instances in which the plot made no sense, there was too much confusion. I also think that there are many charact...

Thank you guys very much for helping me reach 100 subscribers! I'm really thankful to every single one who have supported me and my work. My OreGairu analysis was the video that blew up in views and it was probably the reason why I was able to reach 100 subs in the first place, so thank you for that. I don't prioritise sub counts, nonetheless I think I should show my gratitude for the amount of...

Welcome to the NHK and Psychoanalysis | Ft. Sigmund Freud & Jacques Lacan
Переглядів 1,8 тис.3 роки тому
Welcome to the NHK is definitely one of the classic anime of the 21st century as it delve into serious problems of contemporary society: Consumerism, Hikikomori, Depression, Suicide and Capitalism. I think to really understand why NHK is a great series, we have to first take psychoanalysis seriously. Sigmund Freud, the father of psychoanalysis, was mentioned several times in both the anime and ...

ReLIFE | KiwicReview #3 (Special Episode)

Hey guys Kiwi here, sorry for the long upload. This video was intended to be an in-depth analysis but after asking your thoughts about it, the majority of you decided that it should be a KiwicReview instead. Therefore, this will be a special episode. I hope you guys will enjoy it. I was drawn to the plot of ReLIFE, I didn't expect it to be a good anime. I think the reason why it's not popular i...
Wotakoi | KiwicReview #2

Wotakoi is an anime that revolves around the workplace. This shift of atmosphere enabled different kinds of humour, romance and plot in contrast to the common high school theme for the anime. Moreover, it's refreshing to see adult romance once in a while in the myriad of high school anime. High School anime is about experiencing love for the first time and this creates reluctant and confused ch...

Welcome to the very first Kiwic Review! I wanted the review to be more interactive and quick so here you go! I think Oresuki did not rise up to the light novel, I felt some potential in the anime that was not fulfilled. What do you think? Have you read the light novel? Please check this same video out on InstaTV, I think it is more comfortable and suitable for instagram than youtube. However, I...

Food Wars! | The Importance of Having Fun (Analysis)

Hello there, welcome to our very first video. Food Wars! is an anime about delicious foods and delicious people (if u know what I mean), but I think there's more to it beneath than just the surface. It's about how to overcome setbacks, build strong bonds with others and most importantly, to have fun in whatever you're doing. Erina is best grill so fight me, even u @Mother'sBasement. wow.
absolute masterpiece- the conclusion👏👏👏 i first watched only the shorter version 1.5 years ago and just rewatched the entire thing including the ending-- it is so fitting
I’ve struggled with what Freud would call melancholia but I have hope that acceptance is possible. I don’t want to delude myself to escape. I want to find acceptance of truth
As an atheist, introspection is fascinating as I presume it to be an emergent property of nature. The fact that all of this came from the domino effect of natural processes is just unfathomable. The fact that nature created a subjective experience of itself.
nice reference in ur title

Damn, i was thinking something similar to what you had in mind, i just didn't know how to word it properly, but you couldn't have said it any other way, bravo!
God damn i wish my brain had enough wrinkles to fully understand this shit
IT IS NOT ORANGE FANTA IT IS TANG.
Great video, its a shame you stopped uploading after this btw i hope you are doing well
Great video!!!!
Absolutely loved every second of this. Thank you so much
Bro you are amazing ❤️
This is hands down the best EVA psychological analysis I've ever seen. And one without self projections or guesses about every stupid detail. I also find it necessary to mention how much I appreciate your pdf and that will print it for further study.
Guys explain genuine please
Rip
Thank you for not giving up on this video, this was by far the best NGE analysis I have ever watched.
But don't everyone love romantically for resolution? when you love someone as for to take as a partner, the "objet a" is always in play, because "supposedly" no one else can provided it and for x reason the subject is in full capabilities of giving it, isn't it? Is it the work of the ego or the subject("other" or "Other") to have reciprocal need of desires from another subject and how justified is that? or if it is not justifiable, why do it at all? If everyone supposedly is in search of the lost object without the interference of "It", does it just relays in the capability of providing an "objet a" to the other subject in a non egotistic manner?
Great video 10/10
Using this analysis of NHK to understand psychoanalysis for uni rn, great video
Awesome.
truly amazing work, i simply have no words, thank you very much for this, you deserve alot of praise for the work done here.
throughout all my time on this platform this is probably the best video I've ever seen. thank you for finally explaining this beautiful masterpiece of a series
❤ i love this anime so much, it gave a meaning to a very lonely phase of my life and make me pursue something "genuine" even if that is just a construct of our mind
You should be very proud of this video essay. Monumental achievement of the genre.
thank you for this video 68 65 79 20 79 6F 75
Please make more videos like this i would like to see a video like this on an anime called 'monster' too please 🥺.
Its kind of sucky how I have to look into other peoples' interpretations of this to understand it, instead of coming up with an interpretation of my own.
I've been reading a lot of philosophy this year, and I keep coming back to this essay, since I think you manage to explain a plenty of philosophical concepts in an understandable way, so it is quite helpful. I hope you are doing more similiar projects as this, you do have the knack for it. Keep it up!
Cant believe this content is free
You make these philosophical concepts very easy to understand, while also bringing it back to Neon Genesis Evangelion. It’s very impressive! This video was very digestible, and i really enjoyed it!
damnnn such a good and actually comprehensive video essay :O
Finally, someone pointing out the stupid translations of instrumentality.
I love this entire series and video essay. So far my only critique is that at certain points it seems as though the audio is caving out so it's partially takes a little away from the experience, information/ dialog. It's funny how a simple change of perspective can alter things.
anyone knows how to get that evangelion font?
We're making it out of the existential spiral with this one boys. Jokes aside, thank you so very much for this. I sincerely appreciate the amount of effort and attention to detail that went into this essay - and as someone with negligible amounts of knowledge on psycho-analytics and philosophy, this proved to not only be legitimately informative and well constructed, but the information itself was disseminated in a very digestible way for me. Which is a massive fucking W for my adult ADHD having-ass. Loved it, liked it, shared it and subscribed. "Congratulations! 👏"
this is hence one of the best evangelion explanatory videos on youtube, glad that i found this video which not only explain the chronology of evangelion in itself but the symbolic meanings behind it. love your interpretation, it really goes well with the concept of evangelion & i learn much more than i expected. thank you! also kudos to you
What with the copyright claim on the subtitles
@comnga
I have a weird appreciation for imperfections so I wouldn't change much about the movie, but your points are really valid. I think Tsugo (the kid) serves as Aoi's confidant as she shares her thoughts with him, and his interaction with young Shinnosuke also shows Aoi is not just viewing him in a Fight Club/Hotarubi no Mori e fashion. Tsugo's father, apart from funny dynamics with his kid, hints that Akane possibly still hasn't moved on from Shinno. So, these supportive characters basically exist to elevate characterizarion of the main ones.
this essay is indeed good and all but i think that the informations should be more linear rather than scattered all around it just makes it really confusing to understand
wow. literally a life changing analysis. well done, dude!
GUYS TRUST ME.TURN ON CAPTIONS IN THE PART WHERE FRANK SINATRA SINGS FLY ME TO THE MOON

Can someone pleeease let me know the name of the track used at 4:04? I've been searching this piece for years but with no luck
Hedgehogs dilemma, it’s on the soundtrack
@@gonzo6204 That's the track! Thank you sooo much!
im super impressed at the extensive research that went into this! thank you! i would never have known all this without this video. tho, are you sure everyone is gone and only asuka and shinji are left in eoe? i always assumed everyone else was back in another location or coming back as misato says that anyone who can conceive of themselves can come back. did you have another source for this or was this just your interpretation?
So the buddha teachings were right all along...
Do you actively study psychology or did you study something that requires a lot of critical thinking and comprehension? You seem to really understand a lot of these concepts.
I don't think there are any words I could muster that would ever do justice to this video, it is not only my favorite evangelion video, but also one of the best, most well realised and constructed analysis I have ever seen for any piece of fiction, I feel ashamed for having been able to watch this for free ! It's a true shame that your hard work and dedication does not get even a fraction of the recognition it deserves, but I hope that you know that what you made is an absolute masterpiece, and that I, along with most of the privileged few who were recommended this video, am grateful for making me love a show that was already very close to my heart even more, and hope that you will one day receive all the recognition you deserve and more !
I *need* this essay to be translated into every language in this world
