Does it die down over the cold months?
Thank you so helpful! I have my first crop of the year and didn’t know when to harvest.
Thank you. It's my first time harvesting sorrel in my backyard in New York, and they are beautiful.
I saw one of these for the first time ever today. Found one on the railing of my back porch. I figured it would be at least slightly poisonous, so I left it alone. Now, to look for the Tussok moth. By the way, I found mine in Hope Mills, NC. Not florida. I had recently (about a month ago) had a very large sickly looking oak tree removed. It was looking very ill. And was losing branches, many quite large. Falling of and destroying chain link fence and a metal clothes line. The tree branches that is, not the worms.
Where can I buy one of those tools?
Awesome video! I am growing roselle (sorrel) in 15-gallon containers now and they are doing great. First thought: That tool to remove the seeds is a great idea. I'm getting one. Also, you present safe best management practices when encountering pests or disease, but you don't recommend natural, bioavailable fertilizer like fish hydrolysate and seaweed. The chemical fertilizers like 10-10-10 prevent the plant from forming much needed mycorrhizal and beneficial bacterial associations These associations actually help prevent pests and diseases. But the UF won't teach that. Their agricultural/horticultural depts are well funded by the chemical fertilizer and pesticide businesses. Thank you for a wonderful presentation!
Thanks for sharing ❤
The best and most informative video I've seen on sorrel. Thank you.
thank you my lover.
@ndbg46881 glad you hear you are giving this a try! The plants can get up to 6 feet tall and 4 feet wide. Your local extension may have more information about growing this in your area. You are a bit north of the upper range. They prefer zones 8-11.
Thank you for the content - you should be aware though that US gardeners know sorrel to be a different plant, a short leafy green plant. And even another clover-like green plant called wood sorrels. It would be a safe bet that most Americans wouldn't even know of a hibiscus with fruity calices, let alone that other countries would call it sorrel.
Common names to make life tricky at times. This plant goes by roselle, Florida cranberry, or Jamaican sorrel. The Latin name is Hibiscus sabdariffa.
Very informative, thank you. First time growing this plant, why are the small blooms falling off the plant? The leaves are green and healthy, but the tiny small bloom is falling off. Any suggestions? Thank you
Every. single. one. is too big for my yard. =(
Just dug all 3 off my nasty ugly ruellia plants out tonight.... Thank God I hated that things was spreading babies everywhere and covered in mold 🤮🤮🤮
That's a goode idea for the rabbits. Varmints are usually the worst garden pests. Deer are the worst of the worst! Very Best Regards, Tom Scott Author ● Speaker ● World's Leading Expert on the Corrupt U.S. Legal System _Our American Injustice System_ _Stack the Legal Odds in Your Favor_
Hi, I'm in Southern Maryland (zone 7B) and just seeded Rosella in my veggie garden. How big will these plants grow? We are away in August and September so I hope to harvest in October but I'm wondering how sturdy they are and if they need support?
Only now watching this vid. Thank you so much for the useful information. We're trying this plant this season
Why would you suggest using glycosate? That stuff should be banned.
i have to plant 3 this year. i have replaced our kool aid with sorrel😂
So happy to see/hear The Villages had a chapter of FNPS!
Thanks
Why are you replanting each year, I thought sorrel was perennial?
The seeds of coontie are deadly toxic to dogs You really ought to warn people before you recommend it.
Thanks for all the great information.
I have camphor trees all over the place in my new backyard(Tampa) and air potatoes in a of couple spots. I'm going to systematically try to eradicate the air potato. the camphor trees are okay, they can be cut back and managed before they get gigantic. I figured the Indians used the leaves as a mosquito repellent, but then I learned that the trees were introduced long afterwards.
Iam Indian and I have never seen these until 2-3 days before. My sandalwood tree is infested with them.Iam creeped out rightnow.
Wonderful. I live in AZ. I love sorrel season.
I have planted this in Greece, its beautiful, I have it in pink and mauve and can be cut back if growing bushy. Not problematic at all!
I have six plants and only one has bloomed Please help?
If you really want to kill it, just boil water and water it, and it's dead. Don't use harmful chemicals!!
In Congo our staple vegetables are sorrel, cassava leaves, sweet potatoes leaves, malabar spinach….
I would love some recipes or hints on these...esp for malabar...we grow and sell this at the nursery I work at...
Very informative ❤
Thanks Linda, however mine is in re: an Italian Plum Tree. trying to Identify the Water Sprouts from the Other limbs or branches it my dilemma. Our Plum is not producing since being HORRIBLY pruned by a BUTCHERING-- Landscape company.
So you wait for the flower to drop and then harvest after 3wks time👌. I think thats where I went wrong & didn't collect them in time.
I am wondering bout that myself....what did it do? I dried some and am now making jam...thinking i maybe did not harvest as suggested
Thank you for this video. This is my first year growing it and I have started late. My plants are only 3 weeks old. I am truly hoping i have enough time left to get a good harvest from them. I do have more seeds peft for next year and I will definately start earlier indoors. I was wondering what the time frame as in days to harvest are/is?
I love plants with purple flowers so I do like this plant. and my neighbors had this plant in their yard. My neighbor told me to keep it in a pot instead of planting it directly in your garden bed.
One of it's nicknames is Florida cranberry. I love them, very little care needed for a whole lot of benefits!
This is a great video, especially for a novice interested in planting natives.
Thank you your video is very informative. Being new to Tx I have never seen them before and wasn’t sure if they were friends or foes. I stepped on one with my sandals but your method of dropping them in soap water is probably better if they are sticking to my roof. R there any benefits to them?
Loved this! I just got some young sprouts here in ABQ New Mexico. Hope they do OK, we are not like Florida.
What's the name of that instrument pl
Very informative. I started to see them everywhere (even inside my car) and I was freaking out.
how can we get in your next class
6:30 What is the stripping tool called?
metal tube
I want to attract birds, and rabbits. What should i plant. I will only be willing to plant florida natives
CAUTION WOMEN: Roselle is a strong estrogenic and can cause breast cancer and it's progression!!!! AVOID!!!!
The eggplant fries look delicious
Wonderful video, thank you!
