One of the best 26X's I have ever seen. great set up
Have sold, had back/health issues...
Do you still have the boat? Is it available for sale?
👍
Really cool setup love the boat
Did you survive Ian? Hope so.
So the 26x is just better for sex?
Absolutely....with the seat back removed the v berth on the 26X is great. Your the first to comment on what I meant on the video...well done.
Thanks for the nice video
Great video - can you say a bit more about your galley set up. and cooking
Thank you. From Toronto, Canada
I luv it. thanks for sharing
Consider one or two "stick anchors". If you're in 4' or less with no current..... a stick anchor for the stern will hold and it's easier to deploy/retrieve. You can use a stick anchor for both the bow and stern in a calm cove or sandbar.
no new videos? still got it?
Have you considered using the McGregors water ballast as water storage? Because that's my plan.
The 26M has more headroom than the X, sails closer to the wind, sails faster due to the rotating mast, sails better in light air for the same reason. You said you would explain why the X was better but I never really heard the reasons. Not trying to be confrontational, just trying to understand. I've never sailed an X so I'm totally willing to consider the possibility that it's superior, but it's gonna take some convincing cause I'm pretty impressed with my M!!! ;-)
Good morning John...You're right I didn't explain why the X is better. All your points on the M are correct. We prefer the X due to the head being located back behind the dinette. It opens up the forward V berth area and provides more head room and space with the seat back removed . Without getting too explicit it's much roomier for us to be intimate in the front v berth of the X rather then the restricted head room in the aft, under the cockpit berth. So while all your points for the M are spot on....your love life will be much improved and allow you to be more creative in the X. And that's an important part of sailing life.
I really admire your practicality. How do you use your tablet loaded with Navionics? I can not get my IPad working off line.
Stopped by to see your boat at your marina but you weren’t in. Was only in Ft Myers for 2 weeks. Nice marina.
Hi Tom... Sorry we missed you. Golf today, sailing tomorrow Sunday Feb 20!!! Both Lori and I having health issues, looking to sell "Jet Stream ". If your back this way will take you out... James Rushtonj@aol.com
OMGosh: Wow ! You have made my day. Love your toys. Early 60s and looking to just start enjoying life. It's rare that something excites me and motivates me as much as your wonderful "jet stream". Thank you so much for sharing that joy with us. I mean I may need to start looking for one to buy. I would love to somehow get this down to the lower Bahamas. Find a safe place to store it when I'm not there. And use it to island hop. This is so addictive. Message me if you're ever going to be in the Washington DC area.
26x owner here as well. We're located in Pensacola FL, but trailer since we live so close to a ramp. Wife and are hoping to take our first overnight sail this summer. Really enjoyed seeing the mods, would love to see the autopilot at work. Our boat seems no to point as well as any other boat we've owned. Do you have the same issue? If so, how long does the autopilot take drain your battery? Thanks again for sharing, if you're ever out here give us a shout.
Nice boat! I bought the 26X recently it’s ok but to small to live on as no shower.
We enjoyed our 1998 Mac 26x for over 20 years , we hauled her an sailed her from 0n the Welland canal to the Pacific Ocean..
There a quite a few videos out there on the Mac26, but this one was one of the better. You touched on why you like the 26x better than the M but forgot the why. I'm in the market and can see the M is better on paper, but I'd like to see you do a little video on the differences and your thoughts in reality. Also, sometime when you get around to it a video on trailering long distances. I would be trailering from Ontario to Florida and wonder how that would go. What do you haul it with etc etc? Your production value has also gone way up too (camera, sound, editing). Very nice!
Thanks Phil for your kind comments, it's appreciated
The position of the head starboard rear really opens up the vberth for sleeping much roomier than the M. We had trailor bearings repacked before we left Toronto for Fort Myers and picked an extra set. We were on interstate 75 all the way from Detroit to Fort Myers. Not a relaxing trip...3 days...frequent stops to check bearings and our nerven with single axel trailer. I drive a Toyota Highlander, hitch rated at 5000 lb, easily pulled our estimated boat, trailer and gear load of 3500 to 4000 lbs. You will really enjoy sailing in Florida!!!!
Nicely done video! As a new 26x owner you have given us some great options to work on. What model tablet works without WIFI? Love your mods and AC unit too. Hopefully we’ll see you in Ft Myers one day.
@@tomrussell2514 The best website for an inexpensive tablet loaded with Navionics is navigationlaptops.com . Great units that are GPS enabled (do not need wifi} and cost between $ 350 to $ 600. Had mine two years...no issues.
Phil if you are in the market for a 26x with a 50 hp let me know. We have had one for sale. All sails. Head sail has a roller Furler . Engine runs great. It is stored for the winter in Geneva Wisc.
A mistake to get rid of alcohol/metholated spirits/metho stoves they are so much safer than gas on a boat. Love the auto helm!
Respect your opinion, however, we use a single burner propane stove when offshore and a single burner infared when hooked up to shore power. Works well for us.
@@rushtonjames1 fair enough, just look out for leaking gas though probably not an issue when under way with lots of air rushing around.
Nice boat! I have a 26-X as well. You have some nice suggestions for upgrades. Drop a comment on my most recent video if you want to visit the Cape Canaveral area. You can use my dock if you lower the mast to get under a little bridge.
What a great video. I love it
I've had a 26x for 17 or 18 years. Honestly I would have bought one sooner but I made the mistake of listening to the naysayers...the critics who know nothing about the boat much less the way I want to use and sail it. After I bought it I discovered the boat far exceeded my expectations. It's not the best sail boat and it's not the best powerboat but that's totality irrelevant. It IS the best powersailer ever made and by far the most versatile boat at even 10x the cost. It will always have its critics and those fat-heads will never be silenced...ignore them and enjoy a truly fabulous boat.
I have a McGregor 26D and a Catalina 22 and have found the MacGregor to be better for my needs as it is roomier and is set up for easy sailing. I have had owners of Catalinas tell me how their boats are so much better but when they see that I own a Catalina as well they start asking why I prefer the MacGregor. It is sad how some people think they are special because they own a certain boat, car or whatever. They can think what they want but my MacGregor is more fun, roomier and easier to sail than my Catalina. I just have to stop being lazy and put my Catalina up for sale.
Wow. In regard to these boats you answered about 10 questions of mine in the span of only 12 minutes. Thank you for this excellent video. Im subscribed, so hope to see more!
You're at a slip, not a mooring.
Fred....I made a lot of mistakes in the video...however hopefully you are a supporter of the 26X...
Hey James! Any idea who is the manufacturer of the gimbaled French Press ? That is really a neat version!
Why is the 26M so much more expensive than the 26X? You and your wife did a good job.
Love my 26X for all of the reasons you mentioned. Great video. Do you know who I could contact for a full Bimini like yours and also info on the air conditioner. Thank you for sharing !!! :)
Dowsar marine in Ontario Canada has a bigger better full enclosure You can stand up in it
tengo un macgregor podria hablar con usted para pregutar algunas cosas ?
"It's really better than a 26M" - Very nicely done :)
I'm new owner of McG26X. Regards from Poland!
My husband & I live down the the lower florida keys!! We just bought our Macgregor 26X & are in love! thanks for the the mod pointers !!! && maybe we will see u out on the water one day!! #macgreggorowners XOXO Chris & Lori
We have fun with Jet Stream...fishing, sailing, stern or bow in on the great sandy beaches in Florida. We had to get a "fish identification" app due to the many species we are catching (and releasing). Would be great to hook up on the water...
Excellent wishing well full of GREAT 👍 IDEAS! Thank you 🙏🏼 two.
Hi, how is pump out and water in plumbed to porta potty? Could you make video of that? Thx
Beautiful boat and mods. I can't wait to get a mcgregor 26x! You just got a new subscriber!!
So glad you are going with the 26X...we have a 150 genoa, roller furling, and most days thats all we use....easy to handle from the cockpit, no stress no drama...we're working on a new video.
Love your boat and mods, fellow 26x owner sf bay area, need to get a video out of mods I made to it.
Great video. Love the mods and upgrades.
Your little hitchhiker definitely is not a nuthatch. Maybe a Least Flycatcher, not sure, with the picture quality/zoom level. Enjoy your videos! Next time you see Anne Westlund, tell her Tod from the Montgomery 17 BuscaBrisas says hello.
Way cool...should be great fun on the cruise next summer.
Love all your videos guys! Have chatted with Don on FB last year. Had a Catalina 25 here in Corpus Christi TX but planning to buy either a C34 or H34 next year. Wish you all the best in your sailing. My fiancée and I hope to do The Great Loop one day. May even see you on the water! Fair winds Cygnus & Crew!
Port Elgin harbour hard to find. Thanks for the video.
great video
Thank you for sharing your sail with your brothers. We are going to be exploring the north channel this summer2013 and its great to see your voyage!
Hello, This summer we'll be southbound from the Blue Water Bridge headed to Lake Erie. In the video you mentioned that you anchored out someplace in the Detroit area. Can you tell me where that was? Enjoyed this video. Thanks. Brian
Thanks for sharing. I'm thinking of picking up a Hunter in Michigan and sailing it back to Hamilton. Did you guys make a stop in Windsor to do the customs work for the boat, or did you wait until you got back into Port Elgin?
