Very informative. Lightroom is showing my cloud is full. I had loaded images from a hard drive to lightroom ( versus lightroom classic ) as my desk top was in the shop. I needed a new hard drive for desktop and when I reinstalled lightroom classic from a back-up it corrupted. I had to start a new catalog, because of this. Now i am showing 0 synced images in lightroom classic, but the cloud in the upper corner says i am out of space. if I switch synce to the new catalog- will that update to zero synced. I just want to make sure i don't delete anyhting from lightroom classic. Images i had loaded direct to lightroom were uploaded to lightroom classic directly from the harddrive when I got the computer back. ( but since it is the same harddrive as I uploaded them to lightroomI am unsure about deleteing them as I am afraid they will delete from the disk. I can not find any definitive answer.

Got a question... When I open my Lightroom Folder I see a lot of older Lightroom stuff, such Lightroom Catalog 5 & 6. I had purchased Lightroom 6 and use it until about early 2022 when I decided Lightroom made enough updates that it was worth doing the subscription plan (Lightroom & Photoshop at $10 a month), which at the time I believe was Lightroom 11. I believe Lightroom is at version 13-3 now. When I open the Lightroom Folder what can I delete and what do I need to keep..?

Lightroom has now changed the syncing in 13.3 and I was wondering if you will be updating anything soon?

I previously was able to sort a collection by Added Order, but that no longer works. Even though I have the sort set to custom order, when I add a new photo to the collection, it does not appear as the last (or first) item based on the newest or oldest first button. What am I doing wrong? It worked properly until recently and is still correct in older collections, it i don't change the sort order.

LR on my Mac says everything is sync but I don’t see the latest updates in my collection on my phone. I tired to stop sync, Shut down LR and then go back in. Still LR stopped syncing.

Unfortunately, I missed the live session; thanks for this recording. FYI - I hold my catalogue on the internal SSD on my iMac (which in theory is the fastest drive available). I have two clarification questions: (1) At 22:50 are you saying that the ONLY file that needs to be backed up is “Lightroom Catalog-v13.lrcat”? - I have 7 other files in the same folder whose names also start “Lightroom Catalog-v13”; if I understand correctly LrC will regenerate these provided the “Lightroom Catalog-v13.lrcat” has been preserved. (2) When Adobe first went to Version 13 of the catalogue, I got a warning message to the effect that “on a Mac the .zip file produced (Lightroom Catalog-v13.zip) is likely to be corrupt if it exceeds 4GB in size”. My solution has been to let the regular backup run and then manually copy the (optimised, verified but uncompressed) “Lightroom Catalog-v13.lrcat” to an external drive. Is this still necessary or have Adobe fixed the bug in the compressed file?

Hi Mark I'm really happy you're back, I've been waiting to learn more about the live support event.. Are you able to respond to or make a video about how to synch a library from Lightroom to Lightroom Classic? I have all my photos on an external drive now, I have it also in the form of a Lightroom catalog, but I just cannot get around how to get this into LR Classic in a way that also organizes and gets all the images in order from the very beginning.. So I've left photography for some time now simply because I don't get along with the software and storage aspects.. Hope you can talk about this, thanks a lot! /Sebastian

Thank you for latest video, I have uninstalled Beta but do not see any option on CC to reinstall the last version of it. Have tried to send pictures from LR to PS still with no success at all, I use a 2014 version Mac on my desk top and the lastest M1 chip on my laptop mac, even that wont work do you ave any other workarounds. I see why “pony” & “wildlife” are better in lowercase. However, when you have a proper name (e.g. Exmoor) which in English should always start with a capital letter why not use a capital?

I'd love to see y'all explain the workflow when syncing collections from LRC (on your desktop with all your source images) to Lightroom (on your laptop for on-the-go editing) ... i've recently noticed that when I'm done with a project and unsync a collection, it actually just removes the folder in Lightroom, but all the images stay in Lightroom. So then I have to go in and remove all the images too. Is this the only way to do it? What am I missing? Is there a better workflow?

After clicking rebuild, do I just wait for my Lightroom to shut down or do I need to manually do it myself? I ask because I kept waiting for like an hour and Lightroom didn’t shut down and restart like it was mentioned in the video.

Very interesting piece of advice. I have been looking everywhere for an answer to the question: once I click "Rebuild sync data", how do I know that the rebuild process is running and how do I know when it's over. No one seems to know the answer, there is a lot of guessing in the community and zero answers from Adobe. You noted that when you click the button it says two things: 1. It may take a long time (my library is 258K images), and 2. Sync will be unavailable during the rebuild. You noted that clicking the "Rebuild sync data" restarts LrC and brings it back with sync paused. To me, that's an indication that "rebuild" is running. I once left it alone for 24 hours waiting for it to finish and reenable sync. It did not. You say: go ahead and resume sync. How do you know that this is the correct course of action? Are you not canceling/hampering the rebuild? Or does the "rebuild" amounts to just deleting the Sync.lrdata file, and the actual rebuilding starts when sync is reenabled? My sync is stuck without any errors or activities showing. It's just stuck with 9K+ errors photos left to go. I do rebuild, I do delete Sync.lrdata, I do restart LrC. It starts from my total number of files that are marked for synching through their respective collections, it runs down and it always gets stuck at a random high number and no visible errors or activity. I know that I need to contact Adobe, because the community seems to be out of its collective depth on this. I found your video and just wanted to ask why you believe clicking resume sync is the way to go after clicking "rebuild".

how do you delete that jam? I see something is "pending" but I didn't know how to delete it. its the only issue I'm having.

Is there any way to filter by a specific aspect ratio? I have two different aspect ratios in my set of images, 4:5 and 2:3. I want to filter only the 2:3 images so that I can select them all at once to export them as 4:5 with white borders through the Print tab in Lightroom. If I select all images (4:5 and 2:3) and print the entire batch to jpeg as 4:5 through the Print tab, I get white lines on the edges of some of my photos that were already 4:5. It's tedious to go through all photos in the library and figure out which ones are 2:3 or 4:5. My last resort is to arrange image files by dimensions size in Windows Explorer.

What happens if you send one to photoshop as a Tif will that automatically appear in the collection I went from or is that only going to appear in the folders?

Hello Mark! Around the 1:04:30 point you mentioned transferring Face IDs from Lightroom to Lightroom Classic. Can you explain again how to do that? I have ID's a lot of people in Lightroom and I'm not sure how to get that information to the photos in Classic. Thank you!

Hey Mark! Can you make a video of how to best organize your photos when you're changing system? I've used Lightroom for years and then I exported everything I had into folders by date, so I have around 10k photos in a catalog, but then I have around 20k in other maps and catalogs around, I don't really know how it happened, it's a bit of a mess haha. Some photos cannot be found in some collections etc etc. So I want to basically get all my folders on my external drive into the same place and the same folder system, then sort everything from year and then months 01-12 (can I do this in lightroom?) From what I've understood so far, the best would be to create a new catalog and then import all older catalogs to that one, and then sort from there. But how do I add other photos to this catalog? Is it just to import them in addition to the other catalogs I import? And will I then be able to create the folder system in Lightroom classic to first and foremost have my folders organized before I even begin with the collections? Also if I understand collections correctly, they are just made from your flagged ones/favorites, right? So the idea is to always be up to date on the fotos in the folders, flag them and make collection? Or do you make a smart collection for every month and then sort out your flagged ones within that collection?

Hi Mark! What if you have your catalog always on an external SSD drive, I would need to backup to another ssd drive then If it is to make sense, right?

Is there a similar filter which can be used to show all non-synced photos? My work around (including the collection one) was to create keywords "collection" and "synced", and then select the synced items folder adding the synced keyword and then all my collections and mass adding the collection keyword. I like your method better though.

I am a wildlife photographer and therefore often take large quantities of images to try and get the right moment in sometime fast moving action. Example today I took 3,369 images in just one morning using the Sony A1 shooting at 30fps. I originally used Lightroom cloud on iPad, but soon found I had used up 1TB. Then I moved to Classic and soon my image quantity was getting excessive with even 4TB MacBook. So the process I have developed is to use the app Photo Mechanic to select images for possible editing before any even go into Lightroom Classic. With Photo Mechanic it is possible to move through the images and select very quick and out of that huge number today I only imported 283 into Lightroom. I expect once I look at them in more detail that quantity will be reduced further - I doubt if more than 200 will be edited and kept. Just thought I would share my process to get down the number. I am as a result considering moving back to Lightroom (cloud). Only two things are stopping me, the lack of the Maps module in Lightroom (I geotag all my photos so using) and the lack of the Denoise AI on the iPad. If Adobe addresses those two issues, I would immediately move back to Lightroom cloud, as I think it is otherwise better for my uses travelling around the world.

Thank you for this helpful instructions. I had solved the syncing problem. I have blue error of 17 photos. I clicked the option button and i just rebuild the sync and it just fix the problem without deleting the error files. Relieved to solve the sync issue with your help. Thank you again

Smart collections, clear as mud. sorry just don't get it, and I don't think I want to either. Also I don't use the pick flag I prefer to use the stars, but first I go thro' my imported images and x all the unwanted using auto advance. Will then go thro and star my favs for further work etc. Also go thro and x or star as necessary. I only use collections for projects where I might have images from several source folders.

Long time LRC user and recent LR convert....Lots of problems w/ synching between the two...Question: How do you move pics created in LR (say from iPad) onto my LRC (and thus my PC w/ a 4 media back up system: PC/Ext HD/NAS/AWS Glacier)? Move the collection to a folder? Copy it to a folder? Use the NEW Adobe LR Downloader? What does each step do w/ regards to creating duplicates (and are they full image (CR2)-RAW? W/ accompanying side care file of edits? (Thus 2 file) or Previews?)
