Celltypes in the Central Nervous System (Neurons & Glia cells in the CNS)
The brain basically consists of two categories of specialized cells.
These are the neurons and Neuroglial cells-usually referred to simply as glial cells or glia- which form the non-neuronal supportive cellular elements.
Neurons really form the fundamental processing unit of the central nervous system. There are different types of neurons, they have many different properties, they have many different shapes and sizes and many different functions.

This video covers the basics of the 12 cranial nerves! The cranial nerves are a set of twelve paired nerves that originate in the brain. The first two nerves arise from the cerebrum, whereas the remaining ten emerge from the brain stem. The functions of the cranial nerves are sensory, motor, or both. Each nerve has a name that reflects its function, and a number according to its location in the...
GI Tract Control: Gastrin, CCK, Secretin, Motilin and Gastric Inhibitory Peptide (Updated Audio!)
Переглядів 25 тис.4 роки тому
In this video 5 hormones will be discussed that play important roles in the regulation of digestion in the Gastrointestinal tract. This is a reupload of a video I uploaded some years ago, which had a robotic voice as "Voice Over". Because I agreed with the feedback that this was distracting and often hard to follow, I reupload the video now with a better Voice Over. I hope you like it. Old vers...

Thyroid Hormone Regulation - Negative Feedback Loop [Hypothalamus and Anterior Pitutiary]
Переглядів 134 тис.8 років тому
The production and release of thyroid hormones, thyroxine and triiodothyronine, is controlled by a feedback loop system which involves the hypothalamus, the anterior pituitary gland and the thyroid. The hypothalamus secretes a hormone, called thyrotropin-releasing hormone, which in turn, stimulates the pituitary gland to produce thyroid stimulating hormone. We will abbreviate these with T R H a...

So, here's a silly question: since we all go through a non-fluent phase in learning a new language, would it help someone with Broca's Aphasia to learn a new language, thereby activating/exercising the cortical areas (as they learn the new language) for their original language as a side-effect? Just curious. Great video!
