The Anglian Flaneur-Exploring London and Beyond
United Kingdom
Приєднався 26 тра 2021
What is a Flaneur? Flaneur is a French term for a type of urban male or female "stroller", "lounger", "saunterer", or "loafer". I prefer the term "stroller". That's what I do. Please join me on my travels.
My main focus is London, where I work and was born and raised. Occasionally, I will venture into the towns and villages of East Anglia, which is where I now live. I love East Anglia. Also, I will film my football team Ipswich Town from time to time. Wild swimming and cricket are passions also. But, my heart is 100% London-its history, its streets, its people, its buildings and its business! Berlin also appeals.
At work, and in my lunch break, I will wander out into the streets of London with no fixed destination other than a number of loose plans. I try and summon up the spirit of the Flaneur, observing what is around me. East, West, North or South and the City of London. I try and avoid the Tourist hotspots. Every street in London has a story to tell! That's my motto!

Woodbridge and River Deben walk with Autumnal vibes
I'm walking along the River Deben on an autumnal day with blowy, wet weather. The picture quality is compromised with such bad weather, and I've deliberately left them in to give an idea of a walk in really wet weather. I hope you don't mind!!

Nou Camp Barcelona What's happening
Переглядів 6734 години тому
Today I'm at the Nou Camp in Barcelona, the home of arguably Barcelona's most famous institution. The truly magnificent football club that is FC Barcelona! I love the style and class that is associated with FC Barcelona. I'm Ipswich Town FC 100% but Barca are a club that I would definitely love to pay and watch! The Nou Camp is being redeveloped into a start of the art 105,000 stadium, the larg...

Bermondsey stroll along the Thames
Переглядів 77День тому
Join me as I walk along the Thames on a beautiful, sunny Autumnal day. I start at the King's Stairs just north of Sothwark Park and Jamaica Road and pass Chamers Wharf where Tideway is building London's Super Sewer. We see all the wonderful buildings and brickwork of all the wharves when the Port of London was the World's premier trading port. The views of the Thames against the backdrop of the...
Paddington Green and Lord's Cricket Ground
Переглядів 64День тому
Join me as I start the walk at Paddington Station, with some wonderful railway sounds, and make my way along the Regent's canal and Westway to historic Paddington Green. This is an area that came alive after the building of the Regent's Canal in the early 1800s. From Paddington Green we came back to the Regent's to see one of the great views in London, that of the Maida Vale section of the Rege...
Clifford Road Tunnels in Ipswich
Переглядів 6914 днів тому
Join me as I discover Clifford Road tunnels in Ipswich. These tunnels were built at the start of World War 2 to house and protect local inhabitants from bombing raids by the Luftwaffe. Most people thought they were fully blocked up after the war, but this was not so. Many years later they were discovered under a school playground. So far, only one tunnel has been opened to the public, with the ...
Goodman's Field explore a story of the edges
Переглядів 9414 днів тому
Join me as I walk along the City of London and East End borderlands. I start at Prescot Street in an area once known as Goodman's Field. On our walk we see wonderful architecture, with a mixture of Victorian, Georgian and Art Deco excellence. This is an area of contrasts with a visible history dating back to the Romans as we're close to the London Wall. We only start to look at an area that wou...
Royal Mint and East End jaunt
Переглядів 32321 день тому
Join me as I walk in London's East End. I've crossed over the border from my office in the City of London! Its a beautiful and wonderful place and like crossing into Narnia! Its such a contrast as walk along Dock Street and Royal Mint Street to enjoy its history to two very different industries; London Docks and the Royal Mint. Both are integral two London's rich history. We capture the streets...
Smithfield what's going on
Переглядів 36821 день тому
Smithfield is seeing great changes. The meat market has gone and with it centuries of tradition and a way of life. London and Smithfield are synonymous with each other. Its London with a special London identity. Smithfield is just off High Holborn and Newgate Street and slightly north and west of St Pauls. That's all changing! From 2026 this will be where the Museum of London resides with an em...
RAF Hendon explore
Переглядів 43828 днів тому
Join me as I explore the RAF Museum in Colindale and Hendon. Its a difficult vlog as I don't glory in war, but want to pay my tribute to the brave men and women who served and gave their lives so we can enjoy the freedom we have today. Also, on a much serious note, I loved WW1 2 airfix planes. I have a weak spot for early aviation and I loved seeing these planes, though I'm not oblivious to the...

Well isn’t that pretty
Great place to live This is truly an amazing find and such a current opening
Luv the building you once worked in and of course one of the old favorites-Cheshire Cheese Great video It’s amazing how much you do on your lunch hour I prefer the city of London area more than the rest of what everyone calls London .You are lucky to work in this area
I used to drink in there quite regularly.
That is a great building
Very nice Just like your music portrays
You and the east end deliver. What a treat to work in this area Wonderful music The Artful Dodger one of my favorite Dickens characters Thanx so much for sharing your lunch time.
I thought Smithfield Market was in Manchester! One lives and learns.
Theres a piccadilly in Manchester as well
the vid description says market is gone! *but* It is open Mon to Fri mornings - Midnight to 7am
I think Baz the main market has gone but there's a few businesses still running, but it looked very quiet to me, with little signs of anything happening. I believe any business remaining have got to be gone 2028.
nice music

@@theanglianflaneurs5857 Irons ! Interesting video mate. I enjoyed it.
I'm looking forward to visiting the museum of London in its new home. However it's a shame one of the more modern market buildings such as the poultry market wasn't kept for commerce
Good point. Lets hope all the market people enjoy Dagenham Dock. Place will be different but that's the history of London.
Still beautiful after all these years
I used to luv the Billings Gate fish market area where some of Alfred Hitchcock films were filmed
-3/4 is still open! only the poultry section is closed. - I was taking some night pics when a guy outside a pub said "why am I filming Borough Market?! ha piss head!
Borough Market. LOL.
Thanks. New to me but just seen some UA-cam clips. Fascinating.
So interesting. I live on 96 curtain road right next to foxtons where the theatre once stood. It’s marvellous that king Henry V once stood where I stood. Thank you sir
Big thanks Callum. Lucky man.
Thank you I know you truly care.
Many older people who live in the states now have good information from what they went thru in London during the war.
My two children ended up being pilots
I could not get enough information on those two wars .Your country was top notch in terms of that fight.Appreciate your feelings on this .Thanc for this video I honor it by feeling the same way you do
No one can take an interest in Berlin history and architecture and not watch Wim Wender's film "Wings of desire" or "Der Himmel uber Berlin"
Many thanks.
@@theanglianflaneurs5857 anhalter banhof is always associated with peter falk for me
The punks were some pretty meaty guys and took no crap from no one, yeeer!

Great video. Text needs to stay up longer for us slower readers.
Many thanks. Good advice. I've been trying but still fall back into bad, old habits.
Now that building fits in very well
You fill in the blanks with your incredible knowledge of things I know nothing about
You made me see skyscrapers in a different way I luv London proper This part
RIP The Sanctuary
One year I did see the dart competition there very exciting .This area is very rad I like it
Sorry to see you go that fast food chain food route.Pretty soon you will all have bad habits like the Americans
I think you made a very good choice
And it was a fantastic five hours in IKEA!!!!
I'm so glad you enjoyed it Barry. It was a very enjoyable day.
Been there a few times over the years but never really savored the experience. This video is very informative and the music is quite moving, adding a nostalgic feel. Bought a Korg MS20 synthesizer from Rod Argent's Keyboard shop in 1980.
Thanks for sharing your experience and kind words. Great to hear these stories. It makes these vlogs worthwhile.
All a bit more highbrow than the Morphs. One of my favourite sculptures is Sanctuary by Naomi Blake, situated in St Botolph Without Aldgate churchyard. It is dedicated to victims of oppression, and the artist was a Holocaust survivor.
@@Roland-pw5xj Thank you so much for your helpful comments A learning experience
Thank you so much for this information. I will visit this Wednesday.
Nice It helps to think of the modern buildings as sculptures I especially like Lloyd’s of London Enjoyed the new sculptures in London
In some cases, their shapes are determined by practical considerations such as wind flow, and by rules on not obscuring views of St Paul's Cathedral.
This makes me want to get out in my yard and start the day
Listen to the quiet and the ducks 🦆 This is such a quaint and serene setting and perfect mood Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences with me
I just luv your videos music and one of the few who luv a gray misty day outstanding video of places I did not kno
What a beautiful place to work I like that bullet shaped building
Joe Strummer lived near me in Bridgwater playing the local club and music therapy center named after him oooh he shopped ASDAs supermarket he always looked so cool and would stop & talk to anyone bless him RIP Joe ❤
