Becoming a Dad via IVF While Losing My Dad to ALS
I spent 2020-2021 as a caregiver to my father as he died of ALS while also going through the IVF process to have my son. It changed me forever.

I lost my dad to ALS while going through IVF with my wife. When she got pregnant, it amplified the grief for me and I was TERRIFIED that I wasn't ready to be a father. However I was able to glean some wisdom from my wife's mom that showed me the way. This video was recorded at "The Artichoke," a spectacular storytelling show in Beacon, NY. #als #ivf #storytelling #standupcomedy #standup #comedy...

Clint Nohr - Living in a Shed
Переглядів 1644 роки тому
Clint Nohr was a comedian in New York City but he came from the South and was at the height of his powers on the road. We were always "hey-buddy," back-of-the-room-fist-bump-in-the-dark friends at comedy shows, performing before and after one another at bars, basements and tiny clubs all over New York. Then he took my storytelling-as-standup class last fall, and I'm so glad that we got to be fr...

This is from my new standup album "Why You Should Be Happy". Get the whole thing here: bit.ly/2Bvc8pm I went through a "surprise divorce" and tried to get myself back to normal as fast as possible. I discovered that "normal" didn't work the same way anymore with the help of an Eastern European psychiatrist who loved "Breaking Bad." You can follow me on Instagram at jeff.simmermon ...

Painfully unfunny. Based landlord
these arent even jokes theyre just facts
Are they at least funny facts?
@@andiamnotlying yes lmao
Good work here Jeff. Blending humor with the hard parts of life is not easy. Sort of like riding a bike over Niagara Falls on a Tight Wire, blending gags and humor lines with the ecstasies and tragedies of life. Think you'll do well with the new expanded version of this and know you will knock it out of the park. Also, I'm almost in my 90's and have been on most sides of this father-son-father stuff. Also had an emotionally distant Dad until he decided to change brands in his 80's. And I've been both distanced, close and completely fish out of water with my son, grandson and now the teen age great-grand son. It's just hard being a father and the son of a father, and we need a good sense of humor about it. Thanks for your contribution to the discussion.
Outstanding overview of what had to be a horrific time that required love like never before.
Yes! Good job with the sound .
Thanks so much for telling me yesterday!
Thanks so much for sharing this. Your work has always meant a lot to me. I first heard your empathetic subway screaming story on The Moth when I was in med school. It has been a staple in my life, something I go to when I need a laugh and a reminder of the kindness that lies underneath the confusing ways we show it to each other. I just finished a fellowship in neuropsychiatry two days ago, and now I will be providing medical care for individuals with neurodegenerative disorders as a career. I'm also stepping into a phase of life where my parents are aging and I'm thinking about starting a family. I think your story of fatherhoods here will also be one I find myself coming back to. That may be a bit of an overshare, so I'll probably delete this comment at some point, but I just wanted you to know your work is appreciated and it puts inspiration and positivity and progress into the world in ways you may not ever fully know. Much thanks, Jeff!
Dude PLEASE do not delete this because it is one of the best compliments I’ve ever gotten and I’m going to need to return to it like rosary beads. I’m so glad that you got so much out of this, and my work in general. And glad to hear you’re out there trying to fight this horrific disease. However, if anyone in any practice ever speaks to a patient and says “Medicare won’t pay for that” without first submitting to Medicare - FIRE THEM.
Reminds me of the old days at the Moth
How so? Were you going to Moth slams in NYC between 2008-2015?
Hell yeah! This was my intro to Jeff on the moth ua-cam.com/video/qfEyWRdSeK8/v-deo.html

what use is wasting 15 years of your life learning bjj if you already learnt to stand up at age 2 :)
As a 43 year old white belt this is so accurate 😂
😢I wanted to sign up for ju jitsu, but as an adult I couldn't live with the thought that throughout my life I would have more men in my crotch than women. AVE MUAY THAI 😊
Good
Arm bar all u need
THIS MAN, NEEDS to be a stand up COMIC! "Scrape the PETINA of Sheer Rage. I'm the only one I've ever MET who knows what the word PATINA means!" LMFAO. His storytelling is GREAT!
This man IS a standup comic :)
So funny!
Funny funny funny. Loved it, Jeff!
Classic Jeff Simmermon. Loved every minute of this story!
Aww thank you Jude!!!
Great piece my mans .
43 but looks 63.
LOL so true and funny
You forgot about the Father Nelson and tackle and grapple? And rolling is the best. I am 52, a 4 year Yamasaki Academy Brown Belt and also a Brown Belt in Judo. Thank you for the laughs.
Its a year later and I'm still not ready brother.
dude I am loving your stuff, thank you
The knuckle tattoos reminded me of my brother’s story from being in the Navy on a ship in the 1980’s. One of the other guys decided to get a giant tattoo across his shoulder blades at one of the ports where they had some time off. He asked for Alabama, but what he got was Abalama.
This really made me laugh a LOT tonight. I grew up in North Carolina. Yep, true Southern cooking is unlike anything else. Healthy?? Ah, no.
This is awesome. Simple, easy, bet it tastes great too! I just rewatched the subway story. Hard to believe that was about two years ago. How in the world did you remember what the guy said to the woman with zero empathy? I appreciate your direct way of speaking your truth. I’m still working on that.
My fav standup comic, right here
Great Jeff!
Thank you for this.
Binging your stuff since I saw your post on reddit! Also, holy crap look at that cameo appearance by Dan Ahdoot!
Hey thanks for checking it out - this is a DEEP CUT from way back!
Ah the shed story....good times haha. I still miss my best friend from 6th grade...
Ridículo é você.

Not sure how this ended up in my recommendations, but your a funny man, Have a like and good luck in your Stand Up career. Hope nobody tackles you off stage for a joke about never staying overtime because that's 'The Guy' who is always forced to do it because his fellows won't and he's sick of it.
This was great
priceless comedy!!!!

How the fuck do you have less than 1000 subs dude? You’re standup is great.
It's a mystery to me, too! So glad you're enjoying it!
Loool ! As a fellow crotch sniffer, I agree with your observations.
this man gets triangled on a regular basis
the city is healing, but it's like on the back of the head under the hair and gets flakey and can only be scratched with meth
This is hilarious because it’s all 100% accurate.
43 year old here. Oss. All true 👍👍
I go every Saturday
'Everyone who's felt his father's love on this side' LOL
So so funny!! 😂
41 year old brown belt here. The young fellas with Dad issues are the worst hahahahaha
Still one of my top Moth Podcast episodes ever

I love this guy
Hey man, I just wanted to say thanks for your work. I know it's cliche, and I never thought I'd be one to say anything like this, but seems like a chance you'll actually read this- your stories have really inspired me over the years. I've been in school/training now for over a decade and when I would get bogged down and burnt out, I'd listen to your stories. Same coin, different side- when I've been in the delirious joy of loving and trusting a girl, I've pulled up your stories to share. Actually, told a story at an event in Chicago which was very much encouraged by hearing your work and being inspired. You fuckin kill it man. And it means a lot to me and I'm sure countless others. Thank you.
OH MY GOD - this is the most thoughtful compliment I've ever gotten from a stranger! This means so much to me - that my stuff has gotten you through the good and bad times, and that you were inspired to get up and try it yourself! This has really been a bright spot in a tough day. I'm trying to get more eyes on this thing somehow - if you feel up to spreading it around, please do!
100% accurate. Jesus.
Thanks so much, man!
