Rule One - It's my layout and I'll run what I like. It gives me a chance to get some little used locos and stock out of storage and give them a run round the layout. And there's a new loco to be seen, a Class 27.

It's Sunday and the trains are, for the most part, shorter. A couple of recent additions to my collection of motive power appear in a Wrenton video for the first time, a J50 and a Class 122.
N Gauge BR Standards on Wrenton, my N Gauge Model Railway Layout.

All the locos in this video are BR Standards except for one - the A4, Bittern. A recent addition to the layout, a 5MT, suggested the idea of featuring all my Standards in one video.

Some shots of my N Gauge layout taken with the camera (actually an aged iPad) kept as close as possible to baseboard level to try to give the effect of watching the trains from nearer to ground level.
N Gauge Wrenton goes Great Western

Wrenton goes Western Region! My latest loco purchase, Wollaton Hall, gave me the idea for this video of my N Gauge layout. WR locos only, but you'll have to excuse the upper quadrant signals!

Wrenton - an N Gauge Model Railway Layout
Hi just found your channel very nice i have subscribed
Thanks!
Hello Roger. I may have asked the following question before, but I don't remember asking this question. What kind of camera is filming with? The shots are always beautifully sharp, something I can't achieve. Maybe this has to do with the maintained distance, but I always try to take that into account. The problem is that the camera (I'm using a iPhone) always focuses on the object closest to you. I look forward to the answer. Thanks in advance Roger.
I use an elderly iPad. A bit clumsy but it seems to work well. I usually tap on the area that I want it to focus on and it normally obeys! I have tried my fairly cheap Samsung phone but the focus wanders all the time.
@@rogerdB I never expected that an iPad could make such amazing recordings. How do you manage to get stable footage? Do you use a standard or table?
@@jefwisse1957 I use a tripod. Search for iPad tripod mount - several options on Amazon. Mine wobbles a bit after touching the record button so I give it a couple of seconds to settle before the trains arrive!
Just amazing as ever.
Thanks again, Jef!
Loved it, thanks for showing.
Thank you Roger. This has been an inspiration to me. I am starting to make a small N gauge layout (my first) and I have learnt so many things from your videos, and from your website. Any similarities between my layout and Wrenton will be purely coincidental!
Thank you, too. Good luck with your layout!
I was so impressed with your representation of an Essex village that I recently visited Finchingfield and was subsequently amazed at how accurate your buildings are. A truly inspiring layout .
Thanks Dave. Hope you enjoyed your visit to Finchingfield, it is a very pretty village.
I just came across this video ... Subscribed!!!
Welcome to the channel!
Wrenton never ceases to amaze me, it surely ranks as one of the best model railways of our time. I want to move there!
Many thanks!
Beautiful railway, a complete work of art. I knew the buildings were from Finchingfield even before you said. Just needs a Wiffen's bus doing the rounds...
Thank you. I did manage to include the Wiffens' house, though!
Absolutely wonderful, I felt like I was really there sitting on a hillside watching the going and coming of the trains, beautiful.
Thanks Chris. Those were the days!
Very enjoyable Roger as always, beautiful layout love the buildings and scenery.
Many thanks!
Cracking layout - what more can be said😊
Thanks for that!
I’d lost a bit of motivation to get my layout finished. After this, I’m going to head straight upstairs and get to work. Thanks!
Hope your layout goes well!
Just marvelous as always Roger, thanks for creating and posting this lovely video.
Thanks Sandy.
I have just discovered your channel and your wonderful model railway. You have a new subscriber.
Welcome aboard!
Your layout takes me back to a time when the world seemed much nicer than the one we live in now. Wonderful.
Thanks Phil. A Tardis would be useful...
The world didn't seem better, it was better
@ So true 😞
Lovely as always Roger!!! What a simplier life Wrenton is! (smile)
Thanks Steve.
Wonderful 🤩 thanks for sharing!
Many thanks!
Beautiful, just beautiful. So enjoy the narrative that accompanies the stunning views.
Thanks Nick.
I always look forward to new posts on Wrenton!
Thanks. Sorry they're not more frequent!
Another dose of Magic Roger.
Thank you Steven.
This Is A Amazing Railway And Scenes.
Many thanks!
Muito bom, excelente diorama. Parabéns
Muito obrigado.
Roger, what track do you use? Is it peco code 55 or code 80? It’s extremely realistic looking! As other have said- it’s certainly become a Benchmark standard for me personally!
Thank you! It's Peco code 55.
Hello Roger. Is Wrenton exhibited on the circuit at all, and if so do you have any appearances coming up? I'd love to see this layout in person.
I don't exhibit it, sorry. Too old to tackle the work involved!!
Hi Roger sorry to bother you again what ballast have you used please?
It's Woodland Scenics fine grade, 2 parts Buff to 1 part Brown. Then weathered with diluted artists' acrylics, can't remember which colours though.
Absolutely brilliant Roger thank you so much I doubt my layout will get to your standard cause I’m 64 now and in poor health but your an inspiration to others well done and thank you
Sorry to hear about your health, Graham. But I was 68 when I started Wrenton so give it a try!
Hi absolutely brilliant. I’m just starting out. Could you please tell me how tall is your station lighting is please and where did you get them from? Keep up the good work
Thanks Graham. The (non-working) station lights used parts from the Ratio kit (peco-uk.com/collections/ratio/products/station-street-lamps?variant=7435641978914) but with new, metal posts. I describe them here: www.roger-beckwith.co.uk/mr/mr5.htm.
I can't add much to what others have written, absolute perfection made even better by the outstanding photography and commentary. Many layouts have too much track and not enough scenery, people, houses, vehicles, etc. This layout has the perfect balance of a forefront of railway and a work of art village behind. Well done Roger.
Many thanks Alan! Kind of you.
Quite simply one of the best short films showcasing your layout. Superb composition and filming and perfect accompanying music score. A lovely atmosphere as well. Nice one.
Thank you very much Guy.
A work of art, first class.
Thank you Jeff.
Beautifully made in every respect.
Thanks Neil!
What a wonderful little layout the detail is amazing
Thanks Steve.
such amazing modelling and great story telling :)
Many thanks!
Pinch me I can’t believe that’s N-gauge. Really well done. What is the music playing on this please? I heard it earlier today and just cannot remember.
Thank you. Digital pinch! Music is the first of Satie's Gymnopedies, orchestrated by Debussy.
At first, when the video started with a street view, I thought it was the real world showing the neighbourhood of the owner ! But this is N scale at its very very best. A great work of art !
Many thanks. Glad you like it!
Absolutely amazing layout. I really enjoy seeing the kind of layouts that are built to represent the UK being a Canadian modeler myself. I am just wondering what kind of curve radius you were able to use/make fit, because the passenger cars look really good.
Thanks. The sharpest curves in the scenic section are about 18 inches radius. The reverse curves at the right end of the layout are much larger. Tighter curves in the fiddle yard and approaches.
Brilliant as ever Roger, wonderful, thank you!
Thanks very much!
Those N gauge cows are so stubborn. Wonderful as always.
I'd hate to have to clean out the cattle dock! Thanks Ed.
The track alignment is exquisite, and so much harder to do in 2mm scale. It's such a giveaway on models when the carriages / wagons bounce around unnaturally, and completely robs the models of any 'weight'. I imagine an enormous amount of time was spent with engineer's 123 blocks or metal rulers to get the track to line up so perfectly!
Thank you. Yes, a two foot metal rule for the straights, the gentle reverse curves were more difficult.
beautiful running, great narration !
Many thanks!
Could watch this layout for hours..G
LIfe's too short! Thanks.
Another thoroughly enjoyable episode, thank you. A question, if I may; what length of static grass have you used in the area between the goods yard sidings leading up to the road between village and church?
Thanks! Can't remember what grass I used - it was some years ago! But probably a mix of 2 and 4mm.
Fabulous!
Thanks very much!
Wrenton is so charming! Thank you for sharing!
My pleasure! Thank you.
Ever enjoyable- lovely music again 👌🏻 inspired me to start my own n gauge layout 🫡
Thanks. Starting is the hardest part!
Another wonderful visit to beautiful Wrenton 😍
Thanks for re-visiting!
Beautiful, just beautiful thank you. Will you ever contemplate the use of sound in your locos or are you just content with the amazing layout the way it is?
I'm not keen on sound. Especially as not all locos can be sound fitted. It seems a bit odd to me that some models chuff away and others are mute.
Delightful as always!! Many Thanks once again for sharing!!
And thank you again!
Very pleasant
Thank you.
