these are all very interesting. Just recently, I picked up what I presume to be a 1948(?) Schwinn Model D97X bicycle for $250. It's in really good shape but the tyres are flat and the chain is stuck. rolls really good though. I'm looking forward to getting the old girl to move under own pedal power for the first time since the 1950's. For context, the guy I bought it from, it was his wife's grandfather's iirc. said grandfather had to go to a home or something and so it was put in the rafters of a barn. Clearly it was nice and safe there because it's with me, in as good of shape as ever.

I have a Hercules girl bike and a senator boy bike , oldies. Paid $100 for both. Had a Raleigh but a homeless stole it. Had an Acapulco bike, made in Mexico.Someone stole it as well. Lock them up good

Inverting the brakes doesn't work because the fastener crashes into the fork. They set it up that way because it only works that way.

If its on the other side, it crashes into the fork. No can do.

I had a brand new Mistral in the 70s - purple with gold lining; The Holdsworth shop (there were shops in Penge and Putney) was 1/2 mile from where I lived in South London. It came with Weinmann centre pull brakes, A 'TA' chainset (48t), Suntour (vx?) rear derallieur (5sp Regina block) and Cinelli bars and stem. I can't remember the 27" x 1 1/4" steel wheels but these were changed for Shimano small flange hubbed, Super Champion 'Arc en Ciel' rimmed tubeless, shod with Clements Criteriums. Happy days!

The reason why some cannot get the handlebars to fold down is because they are assembled incorrectly on the headset. I can see at least one of them riding round (1:17) with the handlebars mounted to the front of the headset which means the locating pins will prevent the handlebars folding over correctly. Also, riding the bike as shown, with the handlebars to the front means that the locating pins will not act correctly in preventing the handlebars from collapsing forwards on hard braking - so the rider may be in for a shock as he brakes hard; somersaulting over the collapsing handlebars🤕🚑

WOW! I see a lotta history here. I’m seeing this video in February, 2023 and I’m on my 74th trip around the sun. I think back on a bicycle I was given as a kid in the 1950s…it was old when my dentist gave it to me around 1959. Big spring up front…you know those old tanks. If only I had known how cherished it would eventually become. I have no idea where it went as I grew up. Does it still exist? A familiar lament you say? I live well north of Seattle. Gonna look for other bike nuts. Thanks for posting this video.
