New to pickleball, am on a coaching break to develop some skill and knowledge. The coach has a few different bats for us to try. The Ace Heart would be my chosen tool. Instantly it felt good in my hand, had better control with it, and it enabled me to defend a lot easier. Will have to ask coach if he has plans to see it.

It has a lot of competition except in one area which should not be minimized. Their line has the best tennis elbow and shoulder protection in the industry. I bought the new LG and after some tungsten tune up it is respectable. I will default to the protection it delivers.

Im a 3.5 play wore a forearm compression brace and wrist brace and used a hesacore on a Vatic Pro. Tried out GB Control and Power Elongated... settled for the Control it has a built in vibration dampner, and I got rid of my braces, it feel like 4.0 is within reach. Luv this racket.

This oval shape has been around. Prince, Vulcan, Prokennex, all have oval heads. PADEL paddles are all oval. As for "Longer" choke down, follow the ball all the way in. Wishing Steve much luck with this launch, since his facility is being threatened to be shut down. The Dawson's are LEGENDS.

Dude I owned two… and I owned a carbn 1… they are identical except… the carbon had more pop where the xspak had more control…the only deficit is on a dink while running in… if you hit it soft the paddle will absorb the shock and decelerate the ball.

I just can't understand how these paddles are so expensive. I can see paying that for something that is hot, like the Ripple. But when it's a good all around paddle but not great at really anything, it should be more around $150 or under. The Honolulu J3K is a good example of where this paddle should be priced.

I just picked mine up this evening based on your review, great job as always and been watching your vids for a long time. I’ve haven’t seen you this excited about one particular paddle. I’ve had the gen 3 and currently play and love the mod-ta, a perfect paddle for me. Tomorrow is my first session and hope it is a close replacement. So the person that ask you the difference between this and a mod, I hit a few in my garage, the mod is definitely hotter. It feels more hollow and a bit less effort. However, you do get completely random flyers on the modeven as a 4.5 player. From the looks of it, this feels and plays a little less hot, but much more accurate. Thank you so much. Your reviews are great and agree with the other follower that you play test every paddle you review. Thank you.

After 2 years with my current paddle (Diadem Warrior Edge w/added weight) it was time to upgrade. I just purchased the Joola Hyperion 3S 16 mm. First time use was yesterday (1/14/25). Everything you mention in your video review proved true. Power, accuracy, control, spin were excellent and effortless compared to my current paddle. Out of the box, the 3s immediately felt well balanced. On the court, deep returns were easy and offense to defense and vice versa were seamless. Dinking was the only issue as you mention, but I believe that's more on me as the paddle does have a longer dwell time and I'll need to adjust my swing a little. Not a problem. As far as durability, I'm a right handed player and played with a left hander yesterday. We both went for a pop-up down the middle and clanged our paddles together. I immediately cringed. It was my very first time with the 3s - ugg! Well, it survived the impact w/o a scratch and performed very well (as you discussed in your video) for the rest of the afternoon. With so many paddles out there at all different price points, where do you start? Well, if it wasn't for your videos, I'd be lost in the sauce. Big thanks for making it easier to choose a great paddle. Great video format by the way. Not many reviewers actually get on the court to test the paddle and if they do, the just play a game rather than drill (as you do). - Sincerely, Brian

Really good review and I'm especially happy that you took the time to address how Pkx appears to be "all over the map" here. First, I do sympathize with what they are going through. The previous Black Ace was approved by the USAPA for over 2.5 years. Then they change the criteria on them and now they are banned? That doesn't seem right. They should have been grand-fathered in with the caveat that Pkx would need to make changes to fit their new criteria. Then everyone could be happy. However, all that said, how are these new paddles not up on Pkx's own web site? Just before the announcement came out that the older model would be banned, Pkx dropped the price of their Black Ace everywhere. Really bad form. Pkx clearly was pushing all their inventory that they knew would eventually be banned, but the customer is left in the dark. Could this be why they aren't showing their new paddles on their own site? Just as you alluded to, people can still go buy the banned paddle on Amazon just fine, but their unbanned products aren't even on Amazon. It is all incredibly confusing and Pkx is no where to be found answering these questions. They did announce they are appealing the de-listing of their legacy paddles, but that still doesn't answer all these other questions. And what about all those customers with brand loyalty with Pkx. I own 6 Pkx tennix racquets and 2 Black Ace PB paddles. Give healthy discounts to those who have bought the banned paddles to upgrade to a newer paddle. That $280 price tag does come with some sticker shock. Anyway, a lot to be said here and I think Pkx could do better and I hope they do. I would like to stay with them, but I must admit, it now has be considering other paddle manufacturers. We'll see.

The original Blace Ace that Steve Dawson designed is still a solid paddle. I play with a group in rec that are still playing with the first release. The new owners did something to the internals that makes it "rattle" way more than the original. Maybe since they are 14mm and not 10.5mm New owners made changes.

  • @mlee9049

I got my hands on this yesterday. I was excited before playing with it and wanted to love it! Horrible for me. I’m a power and placement player, and after playing this for 7 hours, I’m not impressed. Will return it next week. My serves were not as powerful as when I use my CRBN 3x 14mm or 16mm. The sweet spot on this paddle is very small. You need to hit it dead center to get a good topspin rotation on the ball. The handle is heavier than I would like. Too bottom heavy for my game. If you like to slice and dice your shots, then it fits your game. However, I prefer my Diamond 6.0 amethyst for slicing and dicing because it’s lighter in the handle. Darn it, I had so much hope watching the reviews on UA-cam.
