I think the work you're doing today will be paving the way for so much of what will need to happen with homes in the near future. If energy costs start to rise the only way to keep these older homes standing will be to make them more efficient.

So, would you recommend that folks get an energy audit prior to hiring contractors?
If you seal up a house to stop air leakage and then put in a continuously running exhaust fan to increase air leakage... sounds counter-intuitive to me? Could the budget have been stretched by another $400-$500 to afford a small ERV like the Panasonic Whisper model? It can run continuously at low CFM in a balanced mode (not depressurizing the house) while recovering most of the heat/humidity from the exhaust air and providing filtered fresh air. Congrats on the new channel, looking forward to your future content!
Thanks for the comment! We have to fund our vent fans through a health and safety fund which is generally maxed out by the time we replace bad dryer vents, faulty gas stoves, fix venting issues on water heaters we aren’t replacing, install smoke and co detectors etc. For example on this house we couldn’t fix the vent on the water heater so we put in a power vent under health and safety. We had to get a waiver to exceed budget but we can’t do that everyday or we’d be in trouble. -Rob
