Pete Dowan
Canada
Приєднався 16 бер 2010
I am an old (b. 1947) medically disabled (since 1983) songwriter and grandfather from St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. Currently battling 3 physical conditions (Myeloma [early onset bone marrow cancer], Trauma Induced Spinal Cervical Stenosis and torn shoulder tendons), but I Welcome You to the digital showcase for my collection of eclectic non-collaborated musical creations (a mixed genre collection of my original songs). My Channel is for those who like to listen, not watch (though the lyrics are viewable). If you're seeking lyrical songs with melody and harmony, then come on in; otherwise, there are MANY other places on the 'net. I can no longer even play or record, so this is the only way I can present my music ... as I find songs in my archives (most of the songs were recorded in my basement: I played all instruments and, except when stated, sang all the vocal parts). I hope something is enjoyed; I'd love to hear from you. pdowan@aol.com or at pdowan
Summertime DOWAN Live 1978
FIRST TIME I have placed something online that isn’t a song I wrote. But this is a live, on-stage recording of my trio, DOWAN, from back in 1978, doing a classic composition from the 1930’s by George Gershwin … our version, of course. We “had a bash” doing this song, so I felt compelled to place it on my page.

All instruments and vocals done by Pete Dowan ... Best listened to with good headphones ! A song about a specific girl, but originally written with a different name than the one mentioned ... I wonder if, after all these years, she would remember it. One of many songs involved in the learning process, but never redone after I'd established a method. As with all my songs, available to be covered...
Gotta Be Love

This song I came across twice in my searches through my reel-to-reel tapes this year (2024 ... still over 150 tapes to go through) ... first as my 2 track demo version done with my classical acoustic (so from the latter 1960's), and then as this, which must have been a group I was in after the acoustic version. Excuse the recording quality ... the tape is over 50 years old ! I am not sure, but ...

This is a slow one that I came across rather serendipitously. It was on an old reel-to-reel tape (don't know how many would know what that is) and the idea was started by my then early years teenage daughter, Jenni. We worked on it together for a while, then I finished it a few months later, I believe. I wish I had gotten back to it later, and made a better recording of it.... All instruments a...

To Be Loved - Studio Demo 1975

Done in studio ... spring, 1975. By Pete Dowan (Lead vocal, harmony, guitar, bass), Pat Gamble (Drums, Congas ... he had a bash doing that !), and Len Walker (vocal harmonies and possibly guitar ?). About computer dating, a bit before that was a thing.

I thought I'd take a Journey into the past. A song I wrote in the Canadian Maritimes for a Canadian Group called "Gary and Dave". Originally I was informed that it would be the "A" side of a single, but it was released in 1976 as a "B" side. Here is the version I did in the spring of 1975, with Len Walker on Piano, Randy Stewart on Synth Strings, Pat Gamble on drums and me on bass and acoustic ...
Are You Man (Live on stage - 1978)

Only recording of this song ... a poor quality cassette recording from a stage performance by the Trio DOWAN ... in 1978 (don't know where). Pat Gamble on drums and harmony vocals, Jay Butler on lead guitar (doing alien voices with a voice box), and Pete Dowan on lead vocals, rhythm/semi lead guitar, bass pedals and keyboards.

Feelin' Like A Dream (Stage Performance)

This, sadly, may be the only recording of this song I wrote. Recorded on stage, just after DOWAN expanded from 3 members to 4, replacing my feet with an actual bass player. Unfortunately, he got lost a few times in the song. Heard of a "Walking Bass" ? Well, this contains a "Wandering Bass". Doesn't sound HALF bad, despite that. As with all my songs, available to be covered. Please share if you...

Thanks for Sharing Pete.
Beautiful, thanks Pete
Thank you so much for recognizing the hard work of NURSES. I love the song. I hope you have a karaoke version of this. and it will be a pleasure to sing this song. God bless you.
I retired yesterday after 47 years, love this song, very catchy, thank you
Glad You like it, Allison, and THANK YOU SO MUCH for your service ! Nurses are the backbone of the medical body !
ALSO TO THE GENTTLEMEN
Your song is beautiful but it's dedicated to ladies only. Nursing is not a female profession only. There are male nurses too. I'm a male and I love recognition.
Nice. I think something was overlooked here. 🤣 Did I mention I am a registered nurse who is male? 🤓 Also, I normally wore solid green or blue surgical scrubs, too (I am a poet who did nor know it!).
Like this one Pete, especially the bass!
Great song. Fits to the Democrat's win
The lyric is beautiful, thank you for the song!
Thanks a lot Pete , we play it every Thursday on clap for NHS at 8pM. Here in the UK Ainsdale.
GREAT to hear ... Nurses are my HEROES !
Awesome 👍😍 song
We indeed need to our nurses. May God bless them
Wow
Really like this song Pete. jimcadeau@gmail.com
Thank you
Hope you had a GREAT B'Day !
I want to see videos of the bands playing there like MOLLY CRIBB.
Is there actually a place called that now ? When I wrote the song, there was no such place !
This is the song that I went to We Love Nurses & Midwives event on 7th December 2018 @ Newham University Hospital.
Hey Naomi ... Nice to know that it is being used !
Good one Pete...I did share it Thanks for posting
This is a great tune Pete. One of your best!!
Nice rocker and sentiment
A proud lady in white 😊😊
Well done a great tribute and a great song !
HI Pete, I saw your message in FB and I'm so much grateful for your adoration to us nurses! This song is awesome! Keep on making beautiful song!
This song is absurd. I've never 'washed a back' or made a bed in my nursing career. We do a lot more than that. You're what's wrong with the public's perception of us and our job. We're not maids or personal care assistants
Anna ... I was in hospital for 3 months. Could hardly move. Nurses helped me with everything, INCLUDING helping me wash and making my bed. That was why I wrote the song (and all the nurses I recalled were female, and were dressed in white ... obviously not like that everywhere) I guess some nurses do more than others for their patients. Nowhere in the song does it say that nurses are "maids". And, I agree, patients do not see ALL of what nurses do; but how could we ? I'm still disabled now, and have been in hospital several times since I wrote the song. I still love nurses. Sorry you think the song is absurd, but that obviously means you don't have to listen to it any more. Take care, stay safe, and keep smiling.
Wow it's a very nice song indeed Pete, you're very talented, love it...we must really appreciate the work of the nurses all over the world. I am working in a Healthcare Recruitment agency for nurses. Thanks...Take care & God bless!
Hey, It's Kanisha K How are you? Saw you were a fan of this awesome music and thought you might enjoy my original songs. Mind checking out my channel and letting me know what you think? Hope you like! -Kanisha K

Proud to say I am a NURSE (lady in white)!
KUDOS TO ALL NURSES ALL OVER THE GLOBE..
very good song! :D
What about the men in white?
Hi Mikey ... I guess I'd best tell you the history of the song ... I wrote it after one particularly frightening time in the hospital, during which (I totally believe) it was the nursing staff who saved my life. The staff during that time happened to be ALL female (and YES, I AM aware that there are many male nurses) and since they all were wearing White uniforms, that is what was the focus of the song I decided to write specifically for them, which is why it is called "Ladies In White". It wasn't originally meant to be heard by anyone else ... it was getting requested by others, so I decided to do it, and place it on UA-cam for anyone to wished to hear it. Sorry it bothers you.
I know right! I’m a male nurse! It’s like get with the times!
A good tribute to Present day Nightingales out there..
I just love it. ;-)
