MT's VGM Synth Covers
Приєднався 11 жов 2011
40 year old dorky dad stays up way too late putting this stuff together. I make sure my shit doesn't sound like MIDI file playback. Thanks for checking out my channel!
Super Metroid - SNES - Upper Norfair - Synth Cover (Microfreak, Modal Craftsynth 2.0, softsynths)
I really went nuts with doing droning noises on this one but I wanted to keep it true to sounding like the original, not like a new orchestral version or something. The Super Metroid OST on the SNES has such a gritty and crunchy sound I really didn't want my cover to sound all hi-fi. I wanted to make sure the "voices" sounded nice and weird and not too choir-y. So, hopefully you'll enjoy how it came out! I thought this was a nice spooky/scary sounding one for October, too!

Spooktober is officially here! It's 103 degrees here today but it's supposed to be Halloween so here's a scary sounding one for you! I know it won't be for everyone but I like this kind of stuff! I am not a big FPS guy but this game was really the cream of the crop, state of the art must have game of 1996! I remember having to warm up to it because it was so dark and gloomy and honestly I was a...
Castlevania Symphony of the Night - Marble Gallery - Synth Cover (redo)

I did this song two and a half (!) years ago, and listening to it now it just isn't very good! So I decided to retry it and this one is much better! The Symphony of the Night soundtrack is full of good songs but I think this one is my favorite. It just has such a weird vibe and interesting instrumentation, it's really a standout piece in gaming. Thanks for listening to my new cover and let me k...
Final Fantasy IV SNES - Boss Battle Theme - Synth Cover (Microfreak, Yamaha MX49, Renoise)

Maybe my favorite RPG boss battle theme ever! Lots of boss battle themes from the 16 bit era go hard but this one always stood out because of the crazy loud drums and bass on top of the orchestrated sounds. It made for a really unique sound that never gets old! I tried to keep mine somewhere between sounding realistic and still "synthesizer-y". Thanks for checking out my cover and the support!!...
Battletoads in Battlemaniacs SNES - Khaos Mountains - Synth Cover (Arturia Microfreak, Shreddage)

More Battletoads!! Is this the worst of the Battletoads games? I can't really even say I've played past the first level! Something about it is just sluggish and not that much fun compared to the OG and the Battletoads and Double Dragon games. And (humble brag) I have actually beaten the original Battletoads on a real NES without cheats or warps so don't go on telling me it's a skill issue!!! Bu...
Battletoads and Double Dragon SNES - Stage 1 "Abobo" - Synth Cover (Microfreak, Shreddage Free)

I have been wanting to do this one for a while but never could get the chugging guitars right. I dicked around with some different plugins and finally got what I was looking for (and for free!) so here's my Abobo cover! The beginning of this song sounds like an actual corny 80's workout video but once the guitars kick in it really rocks! It's a really basic straightforward song but it's perfect...
Vectorman - Sega Genesis/Megadrive - Day 1 Terraport - Synth Cover (Volca FM2, Microfreak, Renoise)

Gotta love platform games! And the 90's!! I feel like this game was trying to steal some of Donkey Kong Country's thunder but kind of showed up too little too late! It is a really great looking and sounding game but playing it I'm always like "eh!" It feels so zoomed in! I can't ever see what's coming! I wanted to keep the FM vibe with this one instead of full acid-techno or something like I've...
Tetris Attack - Froggy's Theme - Synth Cover (Volca FM2, Microfreak, Minilogue, Yamaha MX49)

Another puzzle game! This game is rightfully considered one of the best ever, but maybe its soundtrack is underrated! Hopefully my cover is proof! And there's two versions of the song, the original and then PANIC mode when you're too close to the ceiling! I thought it was fun to put both versions into this cover and really like how they came out. I also included footage of me playing and gettin...
Super Mario 64 - Dire, Dire Docks/Jolly Roger Bay - Synth Cover (Volca FM, Microfreak, Renoise)

I feel like every videogame cover musician/person has to do a Dire, Dire Docks cover, so here's mine! I actually did one almost THREE years ago, and I can hardly believe it's been that long. I always felt like it was kind of sloppy so I wanted to do a new one! Hopefully my version can stand out a little bit, I really liked the FM type sounds I got and tried to stay away from more "realistic" so...

Your mom's favorite game! And maybe grandma, too! But somehow this game has great music! and the game is secretly GOATed, too! I remember playing it and hearing this song and it's one of those that stays in your head for the rest of your life. So I figured now is the time to do a cover of it! I finally got fed up with how clunky and buggy Audacity has been and switched to Tracktion's Waveform a...

We've been having 110 degree heat for the past couple of days here in sunny California, so I thought a lava-themed VGM would be appropriate! Super Mario RPG might not be the most in depth or difficult RPG ever, but it really is fun! And it was a very unique mashup introducing cool new characters and unique locations. It also, of course, has great music! I hope you like my version of this cool s...

4th of July special! This seemed like the perfect opportunity to cover this one! This really is one of those songs that I could listen to over and over and never get tired of! If that isn't a sign that this is one of the best songs ever then I don't know what is! I'm really happy with how this one turned out, especially because when I started it it sounded like COMPLETE DOGSHIT. I kept working ...
Final Fantasy VII - Under the Rotting Pizza - Synth Cover (Yamaha MX49, Microfreak, Synth1...)

This song are sick! A game that needs no introduction! FF7 was definitely not the first RPG I ever played but I can see why it made such a lasting impression on people who never played them before. This song always really stood out to me and really helped set the tone of the game. I think ALL video game music composers are talented, but Nobuo Uematsu is really one of the greats and on a differe...
Metroid Prime 2 - Torvus Bog (Light and Dark) Synth Cover - (Microfreak, Synth 1, Renoise)

Metroid fans got some good news recently with Metroid Prime 4 finally being announced for real this time! Which is your favorite Metroid Prime game? I have a hard time choosing. I really like the second one but some of the Dark Aether stuff was tedious and a lot of the times it felt like a Zelda game with the Luminoth guys telling you where to go and then find three things to open the thing bef...
Zanac - NES and MSX - Area 1 and 2 Themes - Synth Cover (Microfreak, Yamaha MX49, Synth 1, Renoise)

This one I kind of went nuts on with the instrumentation! The original songs sound just kind of like background jingles and I thought it'd be fun to really try to spruce them up! I also didn't realize the game is super old, from 1986 on the MSX and Famicom! Pretty crazy considering how many bullets and enemies are on the screen! This game isn't messing around! The video is actually me playing i...

Love it dude and sounds great! Perfect for Spooktober. Super Metroid will always be one of my favorite Metroid games and the music is a big part why!
Thanks, Mr. Hammer! Yeah, Super Metroid really is one of the best ever, no exaggeration!
I love the industrial sound you have going on!
hey thanks, Belmont Man! I have like 6-7 drones going at once (it's all just C!) and it's really fun to just listen to them individually. The Modal Craftsynth 2 is a weird little synth that can be a real drone machine. I like to get really weird atonal stuff out of it and then it sounds like fluorescent humming or a washing machine or something lol
@@MTVGMSynthCovers You've got it sounding nice and huge. Listening to this again with my headphones, this version almost reminds me of the theme to John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness. (Minus the stabby bass)
Hell yeah! This is sick, love the grit and drones. Great textures, i feel like you really did it justice 🤘
Thanks so much !! That’s exactly what I was going for, I’m glad you got that out of it!
I like that the distorted game sounds starting around the middle, perfect for the dark atmosphere.
Why thank you, Mr. Belmont
pretty awesome stuff! how did you make the synth guitars sound similar?
Thanks, my dear wm771! And by similar, similar to what? The original? To real guitars ? To Moo Deng ? 🦛
@@MTVGMSynthCoversThe original guitars is what i mean lol, how was it done?
This sounds friggin' great!
that's friggin heckin cool!!!
@@MTVGMSynthCovers seriously though, you killed it. I love this tune and you did a great job on it!
all joking aside that really means a lot, and my day sucked today so this helps!! You're one of the good ones and I'm glad you like my stuff!!
@@MTVGMSynthCovers Us video game music nerds got to stick together!
I’m interested in this
Sounds great man! Love the Symphony of the Night soundtrack, perfect for October coming up! nailed it as always!! :D
So synthy!
Wow I love the intro of this remix it's so epic!!
Sounds awesome! yeah this is one of the best boss themes ever imo. The bass just goes so hard!! great work on this man :D
Thanks!! I really like how it came out ! Maybe I’m starting to get the hang of this lol
Awesome! Love your choices in synths. Banger as always!!
Thanks!!!!
Can't go wrong with anything written by David Wise. I like the industrial sounds you used in this one, quite a banger!
😀😀😀
ayyyyyyyyyee. thats what im talking about. this is a banger. ragnarok canyon!
This rocks! The guitars sound nice and the 80's feel is a great touch as well.
Absolutely rocks! Are these synths plugins you bought or are they stock plugins from your DAW? Love this!! :D
wow thanks! that means a lot coming from a real guitar player!!! The plugins are all free, with the guitar being Shreddage "Stratus" 3 Free and the bass is this oddball one I found called "Samsara Cycle Audio OM2." The synth parts are from the Arturia Microfreak which is a hardware synth that I love and use all the time and the drums are 2 different plugins, a free one (grooove bpb "Bruns and pork?" strange name!) and one I paid $9.99 for, "Beatskillz Synthwave Drums." for the software I sequence it all manually in Renoise Tracker (free) and the hardware stuff I just play and record manually. I record and mix everything on Waveform Free. So I don't actually use a DAW like a lot of people do, unless you count Renoise as a DAW but I record all those tracks separately and mix them in Waveform. Again, thanks for the comment and interest!! Means a lot to me.
@@MTVGMSynthCovers No problem and that's so cool! really interesting to see vgm artists process!!
Totally forgot this game existed! Great remix.
one of the kids on the block got this and we played this ish to DEATH! i think we explored every possible thing. sick remix what that electro Vox sound? 00:34 Btw im working on a genesis batman and i got it sounding like a KMFDM track haha + special guest instrument TELEPHONE WOOOOO!!!!1
Acid flash back COMMENCE haha really hit me hard at 01:16
MT VGM - almost as good as drugs!
@@MTVGMSynthCovers maybe just as lol
@@StevenCusic 💊💊💊
Great job! This makes me think of an 80's movie credit sequence.
ayyyy I love this (I bet the vaporwave subreddit would, too lol it's got that vibe) I somehow missed Tetris Attack in my youth, I think I discovered the ending/credits song from one of those SNESDrunk playlists a few years back and was hooked on the OST. Then I actually played the game and it lived up the hype.
haha thanks! I shared it there, we'll see if they like it or not! And yeah, I got the game basically when it came out and it quickly became one of my favorites. My wife really likes playing vs puzzle games but she can't hang against me on Tetris Attack. Tetris 2 and Dr. Mario, on the other hand....
As always, a delight.
might be my all-time favorite VGM piece for piano, been trying to learn it on and off for a while. excellent cover and performance as always! love the volca fm2
thanks for the nice words! i really like how this one came out and it did take a lot to put together. I guess the original is a classic for a reason!
Awesome synth tones here!
!!!
Genial version!
gracias!!!!
Those MT synth tones & that dance beat tho. The ambient lead at the beginning was a nice touch, too!
thanks!! I didn't even have a n64 growing up and have barely played the game (don't shoot me) but this is one of those vgm songs that will be around until mankind is gone lol
@@MTVGMSynthCovers can't knock ya for not playing what you didn't have. Besides, you eventually got to play it!
I love the slap bass sound, is that a gated envelope?
That, my dear BLP man is just a simple reso-bass type sound I got in synth 1 just with 0 attack and a fast decay and a saw wave. It’s all in the resonance for that kind of sound
I love your visuals. Thank you for doing your own thing
thanks so much!! this comment really made my day. not to complain but sometimes I feel like the effort I put into the videos go unnoticed, but comments like yours keep me wanting to keep doing them, so thanks again for the encouragement
Damn dude this is one hell of a sound Spectrum!
Thanks!!! That’s really what I was going for with this one
This definitely gives off vaporwave vibes. Great job!
sick as hell catJAM
lol I know I didn’t sync it perfectly but that cat was really close to the bpm I had to do it
Awesome stuff. The Forest music gets all the attention but this game has SO many bangers.
Thank you! And I agree. That’s one of those games you could pull a random song out of a hat from and they’re all good
I love this so much!! Please do more Super Mario Kart covers! :)
Hey thanks! I do have a couple more if you check out my videos 👀
this came together very well! I dig the bass you're using 😎
Haha thanks! It’s like 3 layered on top of each other 😵💫 the Yamaha mx49 has a really cool software editor that lets you do all kinds of stuff that I think is impossible from the front panel. Or at least it would be. It only has a 2 row dot matrix lol but yeah I got a really ugly sounding one with that !
@@MTVGMSynthCovers Have you had the chance to mess around with that software yet?
I tried Reaper and it wouldn’t record right and I got scared and confused at all the crap it can do but then I just today got this one called WAVEFORM and it seems like just want I wanted! It’s like audacity but not from the Stone Age and it seems really fast and not all clunky so I am pumped about it ! And it’s free !
@@MTVGMSynthCovers Sweet! I'll have to look into it! It's always fun messing with new software
@@belmontlegionplays3853 yeah I want to get to really dig in tonight but I literally just got it today a couple hours ago. I’m not sure if it’ll do much that Reaper doesn’t but I am happy my audacity “skills” seem to carry right over with Waveform
Is there a full version?
That’s all, folks!! Thanks for your interest though! I try not to make my covers too long because people seem to lose interest if they just loop over and over 😵💫🥺
Dang was hoping id hear it loop once as is usually the standard for midis. The choice for lead is perfect
@@EightKinks this aint no midi!! but i'm glad you want to hear more of it!! thanks!
Great job bro!
Thanks, bro!
Oooo, this is a great synth cover! Fantastic job, Rayforce! :D
Thanks!!! That means a lot to me!
cool 😎 if u don't mind, i explore some of your older work, while dreaming of owning a hardware synth someday: D have a sub!
What are you waiting for ?! Make your dream come true 😎
Good stuff 👍
This so good. You know we have the same style when comes to techno.
Thanks! And I really like this kind of darksynth/industrial/techno kind of song !
I'm very glad you could join us for this competition again! I really appreciate your hardware-synth oriented approach, and I think the work it takes to do that pays off with some really unique and compelling tones. I love that squelchy lead sound! Awesome work!
This is cool! Love how you did a lot on hardware synths as well!
Thanks!!! Software is convenient and I like how I don’t gotta get out a bunch of stuff but nothing beats recording the real stuff
Hey, super cool work MT! Keep it up.
!!! Thanks kind acceletron 🤖
@@MTVGMSynthCovers Haha, you're welcome. :^) Take care.
This is a real Mandela Effect moment for me, because for 20 years I have heard her saying "Who's under the influence?" and now I went back and listened to the original track and she says "I was under the influence" so clearly. Freaky.
Funny! Putting it together I thought she was saying that too but I looked it up and I had it wrong! So you’re not alone !
@@MTVGMSynthCovers Whoa!
I love how it sounds both whimsical and creepy, another awesome job
Dude you probably already know it but you NEED to cover Robocop on the Gameboy. The theme tune is on other platforms like the C64 but the Gameboy specifically has they best sound and arrangement plus the rest of the GB soundtrack is killer. Great game too. One of the greatest video game themes ever written. Oh and this Alien cover was freakin’ sweet dude! Keep it up. This darker sound would make for a amazing knight rider cover…
Well cut me a mulet and call me Willy, this is a banger !
You got it, Willy! ✂️
