    Aviation Maintenance Academy????? You shouldn't be teaching anyone how to maintain a 182 then...Anyone watching this video, do not try to duplicate this method on your install. This is a hack job. The lower strip needs taken off and sometimes the upper strip. Any mechanic trying to short cut this I would run away from. If it's done by a pro, it will be riveted back in with some needing cherry max in a few cases where the bucking bar can't reach. Never use screws, those are for lazy mechanics and they look like crap. Add to that never install a new window back in without taking the effort to properly redo the glareshield. This is a 200k airplane, you should have treated it like one. Also, you must use the felt.

    What does it mean if you have to turn the air idle screw in more than one and a 11/2 turns out?I have mine at around three quarters of a turn out. Does that mean I have bad floats? And the float level is too high.I have checked the floats on on the bench.And they measure out correctly.

    The donly issue that I have with this video is that the components are not itemised as you speak about them in all parts ofh the video "this thing here" if you could put text in the video as you say "this here" it would make for perfection

    fabulous video. Thank you for taking such great effort and putting this together. Here is a question, when a continental shuts down, it seems to dump a fair amount of fuel out the common induction drain. What would that indicate is wrong with this system. Secondly, what is happening when the fuel pump housing case drain is leaking fuel? Thank you again and be blessed for your efforts. James

    It could be 1g and 1ml if they were mixing 1 gram of lead into 1ml of tetra ethyl ether it would be both. They might've been mixing their own fuel for testing.

    I had a Bendix PS5 pressure carb on a 150 HP Lycoming in a home built Pitts S1. It worked great for full inverted flight. Fortunately, the PS5 never required any repairs during my ownership of the Pitts. This was around 1974 - 1976. I'm thinking the PS5 was the best inverted fuel control device that preceded fuel injection systems of today. Perhaps someone more familiar with the history of the evolution of inverted fuel system technology could comment.

    Thanks for the video! I overhauled my carb myself years ago. That was a challenge to get the float height set properly! Something of an adventure for sure. 500 hours of flying later and it's only needed a little tweak on the idle metering. But I sure wish I had your video prior to undertaking it! Keep up the great work!

    Great video! I have a question. I own a J3 with Cont A65 with a Stromberg NA-S3A1 with no mixture control. I have always heard that this carb has an “automatic altitud compensation system” that leans the mixture, is that right? You didnt mention that and I cant find that Information anywhere. Thank you!

    Really great video! I'm studying for Powerplant Written Exam. There's a question:" An aircraft engine equipped with a pressure-type carburetor is started with the...?" Answer: "primer while the mixture control is positioned at IDLE-CUTOFF position." Do you know *why* this is the starting procedure for a pressure carburetor? Why not have the mixture control set to lean or rich? I'm reading that once the engine starts you immediately move the mixture out of the CUTOFF position. But why is it necessary/desirable to start the engines in the IDLE-CUTOFF position? And it seems like with it in the IDLE CUTOFF position little to no fuel would be available for starting. I don't get it! Thanks for the great video.

    • @tshelby10
      @tshelby10 2 місяці тому

      you will flood the engine with mixture in full rich position. using primer there is enough fuel for it to get quite a few revolutions giving you time to advance the mixture.

    Great video. I've been having issues with my Aeronca Chief on takeoff. I had a slight engine failure on takeoff, but she sputtered back up and I was able to bring it back to the field. I replaced the wires and plugs and broke into the carb and gave it a good cleaning. I didn't measure the float but did think that the level might be a little high. I flew it the other day and it ran great while I had another instructor up with me. I let him out for another lesson and of course while by myself, she bogged down a little bit (as if too rich) while on climbout. It didn't do it nearly as bad, and continued to run, but I would like to fix this issue before taking it back up. I have a manual on order, but do you know the measurement for the float and where I would take the measurement to level the fuel just below the discharge nozzle? Thanks so much. This video helped me understand the operation of this carburetor so much better.

    Apologies if this question is daft, but what is the purpose of the air bleed between A and B?

    • @aviationmaintenanceacademy
      @aviationmaintenanceacademy 9 місяців тому

      You need air movement through the impact tube into Chamber A or the AMC will not work. The bleed keeps the air moving.

    • @mattgbarr
      @mattgbarr 9 місяців тому

      @aviationmaintenanceacademy thanks for the response! Another potentially silly question if that is okay? Is the air metering force regulated by both the impact tube and the venturi so that the pressure carb is getting information on both mass air flow and inlet pressure?
