2024 Tacoma Rear Lift And Axle Offset
Overall the suspension on the 2024 TRD Off Road is good on road and decent off road. Does a good job at dampening out routine bumps and dips on road and going over rocks. Pickup has coil springs front and back and Toyota specific Bilstein shocks with integrated piggy back reservoirs. Not the best off road but not bad.
Have added skid plates and rock sliders plus 75 pounds of gear to the pickup. Also carry an off road jack and 12,000 pound winch when off road so more weight and lost ground clearance.
Don’t want a high lift that would affect drivability on road or fuel economy. Intent for pickup is to take unimproved roads and mild trails to remote locations and get back again. It’ll spend more time hauling groceries and lumber than ever bee off road.
Front lift was simple, added spacers for 1” of lift. This is safe because the front bump stops are in the front shocks so the shocks will never bottom out before contacting the bum stops and get damaged.
Lifting the rear is more complicated, add a spacer, replace the coil springs, or do both. Problem with replacing the coil springs is when longer travel shocks get installed, the springs will have to be replaced. Rear springs are only held in by the weight of the pickup so the springs need to be sized to the travel of the shock or could fall out.
With the pickup towing 3300+ pounds or over 1497 kg, the rear of the pickup squats about an inch or 2.54 cm. Stiffer springs would help with this but going with the 1” spacers to lose less money in the future if the shocks get replaced.
Another reason to lift the rear is when you hit a big bump or deep depression with both tires, you can hit the bump stops even at 45 MPH or 72 KPH. Far less noticeable if only one wheel hits a bump or dip.
Lifting the rear and front of the pickup shifts the axles slightly to the left or right due to the Panhard rods that connect the axle to the frame. A 1” lift doesn’t seem to offset the axles much but the taller the lift, the more it will.
Do intend to get leveling and longer travel shocks in the future with springs when more affordable options are available.
You’ll need a 19 mm socket for the wheel lugs and a 17 mm socket and wrench for the sway bar and lower shock mount. Used two crescent wrenches (air spanners for the UK) for the upper shock bolt. It’s much easier if you can support the pickup and remove both rear tires.
Torque for the lower shock bolt is 133 ft-lb, sway bar is 103 ft-lb, and didn’t find one for the upper shock bolt. Torque settings came from a prototype list on the web.
If you’re wondering, pickup handled trailer and load without problems accelerating or stopping. Trailer does not have electric brakes but hope to add them at some point.

Changing Spacer Lift On 2024 Or Gen 4 Tacoma Or Fixing A Mistake

Lost ground clearance with the RCI skid plates on the 2024 Tacoma and want to gain some of it back in the front. DIY Ultra Low Cost Axle Exhaust Dump For 2024+ Tacoma

One of my biggest dislikes about the 2024 Tacoma is the big, ugly, and bright shiny metal that catches your eye first, resonator and exhaust tip. Curious to why u milled a quater inch off? U can't even tell the difference at 1 inch higher, another quater wasn't gonna kill u. Seems like a lot of work for 1/4. If u wanted a true 1 inch u should have the gotten the Taco Garage spacer/strut reinfornent plate. We did that to my nephews 2024 and we both wished it was higher

    That was such a cool discovery for me a few years back (Swedish Fire Log). Use them all the time now outdoors. Kobalt 12 inch for me, and 40v batteries. I found a place on Amazon that is called UpForest, and they had a 3 pack of 12 inch chains much cheaper than buying one genuine Kobalt replacement chain. Mine's an R45, but they carry most sizes that I can tell. Glad I tried it. Sharp as heck, and so far have not had any problem with the first one I used. Just FYI.

  • @FoxMan777
    @FoxMan777 8 місяців тому

    Similar to what I did with mine, but I didn't use the reinforcement plate and bolt, just welded a knife edge like you made there to the splitting point, and ground it down to a sharp point. Sticks out about an inch and a half. Wanted a good bite into the wood before it hits the wedge sides and starts separating. Haven't had any issues yet other than my front seal is going bad after 5 years. :)

  • @FoxMan777
    @FoxMan777 8 місяців тому

    I did similar on mine. Two things I did were change out those Iron Caster wheels for HF 4 Inch Rubber wheels with some drilling and some bolts for axles, and then welded a knife edge piece of metal at the tip of the weld and then ground it sharp. I see from your newer video you did similar. ;) I need to find a seal kit for it though as it is five years old now, and the front seal has gone bad and leaks a lot now. As for the axe comments, yeah okay, enjoy yourself. I have arthritis and this saves me a ton of pain. Your mileage may vary.

    Question: When did you purchase this 10-ton Harbor Freight manual unit? I bought mine 4 years ago and it had no such crappy welds on the cutting edge of the cutter head! If mine had had such a mess, I would have exchanged it for another that did not have that problem. Glad you were able to over come it. When I get in rounds and they are too heavy for me to put them on my table at 3 feet tall, I am 74 years old, I work it on to this unit and spllt the log one time. Then I can lift them onto the table with my HF 5 ton electric splitter!

      Since I don't split that much wood, and it was on sale, it was the cheapest I could buy. Most low-end imports like these have this kind of welds.

      Did you just skim the video or something? Those "Crappy welds on the tip of the cutting edge" didn't come with the splitter, those were added so he could grind down a sharp edge from them. I mean, that's the whole point of his video... ???

    Glad I found this as I'm getting into the midst of a full resto-mod on my 1976 Case 446. Previous owner did a really nice job of restoring the Onan, but unfortunately in the end filled the hydraulic system with ATF. So I'm just puling it all apart and fixing the missing or maladjusted. Any advice on alternatives to the now overpriced and under-available muffler or hydraulic cooler? I was thinking a plate type cooler from Derale would be more efficient maybe even better with an electric fan?

    • @t-towncase3808
      @t-towncase3808 Рік тому

      Look for swamp boat mufflers for Onan's, they may fit. Hydraulic cooler has internal fins in the tubes so the fluid is spun to the outside walls for increased cooling, don’t know if these are available from anyone else. You can find used hydraulic coolers on ebay but would flush them thoroughly before use and install the filter and filter bracket from an Ingersoll/Case 3000 or 4000 series to protect the pump.

      It's for travel when you have to stop somewhere, and the vehicle is unattended.

    If your carb starts running extremely rich, and your fuel pump and carb are in good shape, check for vacuum leaks. Plugs were wet and smelled like gas, but the carb and fuel pump were good. Found a vacuum leak and after fixing the hose, the plugs aren’t coated in gas or smell like gas.

      I tend to not mess with the settings on a carb unless I've looked at everything else first. Otherwise you may end up chasing your own tail.
