I just 100%'d this game a few days ago, and I think it was was fantastic. Metroidvania's are not my favorite genre (though I feel they're in a golden age right now!). While I love the exploration, finding secrets, and combat strategies, the fatal flaw for me is the backtracking. I get disengaged quick if there's a lot of back and forth involved. While exploration is straightforward in Crypt Custodian, its incredibly fun. The large map and variety of gorgeous zones that all feel and play in unique ways is great, but the fact that traversing it is easy and quick meant that I stayed engaged and kept a pace that felt like I was never getting interrupted by mechanics like needing to go back and get my currency, or to make long treks over and over to get back to a boss or to secret. Even when stuck on something (which was twice), I loved that there was an in game way to purchase a marker of where I should go next. The addition of a randomizer mode allows for a lot of replayability and variance as well. Crypt Custodian doesn't push any boundaries on metroidvanias, but it doesn't need to, because every element of it is polished to absolute perfection. Kyle Thompson knew exactly what his vision for this was, and executed it perfectly. I also think it fills a somewhat neglected niche in metroidvanias, which is an easier, more casual experience. I certainly don't mind a challenge, but the easier difficulty in general was perfect for how light and smooth the gameplay is. This was the perfect game for me during a really busy schedule. I could sit down and have a relaxing, cozy experience that was never for even a single second boring or underwhelming. The story was almost childlike in its simplicity, but it doesn't ever infantilize he player and the writing always feels intentional and logical. It is perfectly told, charming and silly, and incredibly warm and heartfelt. The scene where Pluto gets to sleep between his owners admittedly made me tear up. I don't think it's the "best" metroidvania-I feel like games like Animal Well and Hollow Knight really pushed the genre foward in ways never previously explored, and I don't think Crypt Custodian is genre-defining, even with really fresh and unique feelings mechanics, and again it doesn't need to be. But is it maybe my personal favorite metroidvania? I think it very well might be.

Very cool art style. The big AAA companys can learn from those smaller indie developers. My opinion those companys deserve the big public. The big companys are only on the money, they make horrible games the last years. I gonna try this relaxing and beautiful game.

Suspension isn't animated! The wheels are moving up and down but the suspension doesn't follow.
