A tratti l'irruenza e la passione lo trascinano ad eseguire in modo troppo irruento e vertiginoso alcuni tratti della ballata che altri grandi eseguono più liricamente scandendo il fraseggio, ma l'amozione di questa esecuzione dal vivo è grande.

Schön für einen alten KlavierRomantiker, so einen Klassiker wieder ans (youtube)Tageslicht gehoben zu sehen. Was auch für eine Konstellation, diesen Pianisten mit diesem Dirigenten im Jahre 1975 bei den Salzburger Festspielen - der vertraute Gilels´sche Wohlklang geht auch sofort ins Ohr. Trotzdem, und das soll keine Mäkelei sein, fällt sofort auf, dass der Solist "sein" Temperament und seine Dynamik der etwas großväterlich anmutenden Vorstellung von Kal Böhm unterordnete. Seine spätere Moskauer Aufführung in den 70ern unter Verbitsky tönt da ganz anders - und wird der dem Elan des Komponisten wohl gerechter. Zu weiteren (nicht nur) historischen Vergleichen sei an weitere herausragende Einspielungen dieses Paradekonzerts der deutschen Klavierromantik erinnert, so an Dinu Lipatti, Sviatoslav Richter, Hélène Grimaud, Martha Argerich erinnert - und heute an den vielleicht neuen "Jahrhundertpianisten" Daniil Trifonov, der es am kommenden 28. November dieses Jahres in München auf das Programm gestzt.

This is, in my opinion, the best version of this work since the great Horowitz recording. The live performance adds something special to the score.

Gilels. The pinnacle of Great Beethoven pianism. These performances are beyond sublime. The gorgeous golden tone. The interpretation: Gilels is at one withe the nobility of Beethoven.

Piano Sonata No. 16 & Gilels is perfect. Here he plays a bit more agressive than in the studio record. No. 12 is great too, both are highly underrated.

it's the tuning! the piano here seems expertly tuned for this piece much more than other versions; as if it's been studio-tuned for each of this piece's movements. hard to say with youTube equalization but i seem to be missing the careful - if ephemeral - work with the octave harmonics - eg, the transposed pure-octave triplets @ 30:10- 30:14 (5th page from the end, just before the etude section returns). in some of Gilels late versions of this Stalingrad Sonata, pure-octaves bring out the piano's "3rd tone" additive-subtractive harmonics effect better than others. otherwise ithis performance is so contemporary with the 1972 Melodiya it's nearly indistinguishable

One of the greatest pianists of the 20th Century, no question. However, I’ve always found his tempo for this way too slow. He misses the simplicity/ song like quality. Would be interesting to hear from him about this interpretive choice !

Миля как всегда, на высоте❤. Интересна эта запись тем что она была записана в период его другой легендарной студийной записи, с Ойгеном Йохумом. Эмиль в одном своих интервью замечал, что записывая концерты Брамса с немецким дирижером «брукнеризмы» выделялись как жирные пятна… и в целом студийная запись сбалансирована по наполнению солиста и оркестра. Здесь же основной микрофон видимо стоял рядом с роялем и очень хорошо слышна нюансировка и красота звучания солиста! Ну и в целом пример , так сказать , без жирных немецких пятен), хотя вариант с Ойгеном мне нравится не меньше! Спасибо за запись🙏, очень жаль что не сохранилось ни одного видео с Эмилем, исполняющим этот замечательный концерт(

на знал что Гилельс исполнял это произведение. Исполнение великолепное. вообще мое любимой исполнение это Моисеевич но и Гилельс великолепно исполняет.

It was just as exciting as when I first heard his Tchaikovsky concerto and got to know him. The golden sound penetrates my soul.

The Stravinsky! That's how it's done. I like this version of it.
