I said this in a reply to a comment, but I'm also putting it IN a comment: The ONLY one who could do this movie properly is Christopher Nolan, because he'd use practical effects, and as little CGI as possible. Actually, I'd trust Nolan to do a movie version of all 4 books; yes, including a REMAKE of 2001 that's as close to the BOOK as possible. Kubrick's 2001 is a MASTERPIECE, but there are several differences from the book (namely, Saturn, instead of Jupiter) that basically SCREAM for Nolan to do it. 2010 the movie is actually pretty close to the book (with only a couple differences), but a Nolan remake would be pretty cool, too. Nolan doing 2061 and 3001 would be AWESOME.
