It's in Eminor. The first chord in the progression doesn't necessarily establish key. The easiest way to hear this is the only chord that makes the first progression sound finished if ended on is the Eminor, the rest all sound like unresolved questions. Secondly the melody is completely based around E minor pentatonic not Aminor. If it was it would be A dorian which is not the tonality going on here. Wouldn't usually do this but I'm an educator and it's really important to get these details correct when many people will take this as written. The song is in Eminor it resolves on the second chord of the sequence.

I’m very happy you enjoyed the Sabre. I fortunately have the HT and their original (actually - not true, as its their 2nd incarnation. The original was late 80’s, i think). I love the natural tone from the Okoume (it’s a type of lightweight African Mahogany), first used by MM on the Luke 3 Tumescent BFR 10yrs ago, but typically being used on their “bigger” body guitars. My preferred neck radius is 12” which Steve Lukather uses. One of the biggest differences between the Sabre and most other MM 6 string guitars is the width at the nut - the Sabre is 43mm, whereas most others are 41.3mm. Having become accustomed to the narrower neck, the Sabre initially feel “chunky” but only for a minute or so. I am very happy that EB MM are making their own HT pick ups - in both S & H configurations. Luke’s range started with EMG’s, then DiMarzio’s, but his latest L4 range all use the HT, which sound much closer to the EMG’s. What other EB MM guitars have you played? Do you own any? Cheers ewan

I think the effects chain for modeling uses a compressor (front end) directly after tuner/noise gate. There is a little preamp distortion (like Thorpy Peacekeeper, or other such tube front end simulators), then chorus, digital delay and reverb. It gets really interesting if you use a stereo chorus, delay and reverb. For a studio mix you would see an EQ before the compressor and after the noise gate to chop the lows. Then there is probably another compressor and EQ used during the mix.

The reason you may see locking tuners on the FR setup, depending on the person setting up the guitar, tech, owner, etc. is many techs will set the fine tuners to the mid position, replace the strings with the locking tuners (less post turn surface, better stretch stability), then before locking the strings at the top of the headstock, stretch the strings in multiple steps, usually with lube at the string sliding surfaces (during stretching), at the bridge and metal nut, I use a special clock makers oil which does not gum as easily as something like 3 in 1 oil. The strings are stretched again while using the tremolo bar. Always use an accurate tuner while tuning and stretching strings, you will begin to see a pattern in how much stretch is needed if you always use the same string gauge set and brand strings. I think the FR Tremolo stretch/tune gives the best indicator as to how well the strings are broken in. Once the strings are broken in you can now install the headstock string clamps. Using this procedure you know that you have adjustment both high (strings going flat slightly which is normal even after a proper stretching) and low (using a capo stings going sharp) on the fine tuners. Which is important if you are setting up the guitar for a client because there is nothing worse than running out of fine tune on a FR.
