Jesse Grimes - One Heart Fire

This channel started as a way for me to document my journey learning permaculture, but now it's just a place for me to share my music, my cycling adventures, ior whatever else I feel like making a video about.
Honey and Cream
This is a good one for Labor Day. Remember, this day is not about barbeques and sales on home appliances, it's about honoring the men and women who gave their time, energy, and sometimes their lives fighting the ultra wealthy ruling class, demanding that they treat the rest of us like human beings. Without their sacrifice we wouldn't have things like the weekend, the 8 hour work day, unemployment protection, health and safety protections, ext, ect, ect. Labor Day is also a reminder that they give us one day off a year, and in return we allow them to exploit our labor for their own gain, for the rest of our lives.
Sometimes I get quite upset at the injustices of this world. The vast majority of people simply want to spend time with their loved ones, eat good food, and tell stories, but there's a tiny portion of humanity that wants to take much, much more than they need at the expense of the rest of us. It is such a ridiculous state of affairs, when there's so much abundance in the world that we could all live so well, and spend our time making art, loving each other, and improving our world. Instead we get to work to pay rent, while they live off of interest and the spoils of war. Sometimes I just don't know what to do, other than sing about it.
Lyrics:
You don't like their language. You don't like their looks
You don't like their Lifestyle. You judge them like a book
Cause you got all the answers Your way is the best
You label them as sinners, They're failing all your tests
There ain't no room for questions Ain't no room for doubt
Cause mom and daddy told you Its all been figured out
So they should just be quiet Or kindly disappear
If they were only different They wouldn't live in fear
Cause something ought to be done. Don't you think its time
To rally round the family With torches in the night
You think this world was drawn in black and white
And you know you're right
But there's colors all around you too many to be real
And rhythms in the soil
Strong enough to feel
There's mountains in your mind and rivers in your bones
Your body is alive and your soul’s already home
But that's all hippy bullshit, foolishness and lies
Its all one big conspiracy to hurt your bottom line
So fill another vacant lot with concrete and steel
Externalize the consequence and fuck the way you feel
Charge the highest market rate and get what you can get
Then drive to your vacation home through cities made of tents
Cause the dow jones and the S&P are at an all time high
So check on your portfolio while you kiss your kids goodnight
And yeah they might have to watch this whole world burn
But this is your turn
There are those who lust for power, those who lust for wealth
Those who seek to benefit only themselves
Those who write the narratives and those who sell the lies
Those who tell the story with a twinkle in their eye
There are those who sell the bombs and those who write the checks
Those who live their whole lives with a noose around their neck
The world is run by psychopaths, murderers, and thieves
Control is their drug, and greed is their disease
They don't care about your family, they don't care about your health
They don't care about your home, or the hand that you've been dealt
They just want the honey, they just want the cream
And it doesn’t trickle down, but the shit runs downstream
They want us to fight, they want us to believe
They want to keep us mesmerized with colors on a screen
They'll give you an enemy, they'll write you a heel
An evil to justify the rage that you feel
Cause you worked all your life, worked your hands to the bone
And they still own your time, they still own your home
And one small mistake you'd be out on the street
Begging for change, begging to eat
And you could curse all you want about the red or the blue
But the end of the gun is still pointed at you
Sometimes I just dont know what i should do

Open Mic set at Enrique's 8/28/24
Переглядів 163 місяці тому
I thought I was showing up early to get a good spot, but this night a ton of people showed up earlier. So I ended up playing last, for just a few of the musicians who performed earlier in the night. I still had a great time playing a few of my favorite songs on the stage. Setlist: Isis by Bob Dylan Another Travelin' Song by Bright Eyes Eagle On a Pole by Connor Oberst Concrete Jungle by Bob Marley

Cover of Jet Fuel Cant Melt Steel Beams by Camp Cope

I just discovered Camp Cope a couple of weeks ago, and I can't stop listening. They are an all female band from Australia, and while I wouldn't exactly call their sound punk rock, the vibe is certainly there. Brutally honest lyrics about the struggles of modern life, and a calling out of all the bullshit and injustice that exists in our world, delivered with the nothing held back energy of a si...
Cover of Two Headed Boy, Part 2 by Neutral Milk Hotel

My older sister introduced me to Neutral Milk Hotel when I was about 16, and I fell in love with their music immediately. It was weird, and unique, and so brutally honest at times, and so mysteriously cryptic at others. Music for the socially awkward artistic kids I identified with. The kind of music I could scream along to on all night road trips into the dark of the desert. I've come to think...
Cover of Ballad of a Thin Man by Bob Dylan

The original piano version of this song is one of my favorite Dylan songs. Something about the percussive rocking back and forth of the piano chords just makes for a very solid and steady groove. I tried my best to translate that groove over to acoustic guitar, and the result is a song that is just really fun to play and sing. I've learned and forgot a lot of Dylan covers over the years, but th...
Apricity by One Heart Fire

Apricity [ ap-riss-it-ee ] Noun The warmth of the Sun in winter I am a creature of the outdoors, so winter can be a hard time for me. Weeks of rain and darkness, stuck inside a cold house, stuck inside my head. It's too easy to let myself slide into stagnation and depression. Maybe a special lightbulb would help, but there's no substitute for the pure warmth of real sunlight. This last winter I...
Cover of Float On by Modest Mouse

This song has helped me through some very hard times. In the midst of the breakup of my ten year long relationship, I lost a good friend to drugs and suicide. I lost my home and had to move a mountain of stuff and my whole life across town into my own place. I lost motivation to run my business and started questioning if I really wanted the career I had built over so many years. I felt like I h...
Cover of Hidden Light by Jason Anderson

I've been playing for my houseplants for quite some time, so I think that it's about time to start sharing my music with the rest of the world, and the trees, and the mosquitos... This is as good a song as any to start with, since I first discovered Jason Anderson in some very grainy videos, with even worse sound quality than this one, back in the early days of UA-cam. Even in 280p, I could fee...
Springtime in Chico

Just a little raw edit of a ride with the boys. Bidwell Park in Chico is one of the most unique and beautiful places I've ever seen, with some very challenging and fun mountain biking.

This was a great overnight bikepacking trip I did over Presidents Day weekend in 2023. Henry Coe is an incredible park, with breathtaking views, lots of climbing, and great primitive singletrack. The route: ridewithgps.com/routes/42099690 This was filmed on unceded Amah Mutsun and Northern Valley Yokuts lands. An Update on the Backyard Ecological Landscape: November, 2018

I went back to Orange, CA to visit the site of the backyard ecological landscape I installed this past spring, and was very fortunate to be there during a heavy downpour. It is always a good idea to observe your sit during heavy rains so you can see how the water flows in real time, this will often expose problems or surprises that you didn't foresee when you created the design. I was able to s...

This is a video I filmed in September of 2017, at a water harvesting workshop presented by the Permaculture Skills Center, in Sebastopol, California. Part 1 can be seen here: ua-cam.com/video/bSTGmN06FeM/v-deo.html In this two day workshop we covered many topics, from roof rainwater catchment and rain tanks, to greywater, and small scale water harvesting earthworks. There was so much good infor...
