I'm not Maori Nor Hawaiian but to all my native brothers and sisters we all have our beautiful cultures but the white man just can't stop screwing it up can they
i am proud that my teacher showed us this movie. brought a smile to my face when this movie was in aotearoa. mahalo to the actors. they did an amazing job. with all love and support from the islands of hawai’i.
I love this movie and the scene between the grandmother and the grandfather. The shock on his face when he finally realizes how biased he was is my favorite scene in the film.
I saw Whale Rider in the cinema on its release back in 2002, bought it on DVD, and have always loved it. Its connection to Avatar Way of Water with Cliff Curtis would have been better still if Keisha (and others from this film) would have also been included
Idk if I'm late to the party, but i always thought when Pai dives underwater, Paikea possesses her. When she wakes up on hospital and the grandfather is apologizing, Pai is quiet stares at him. I always thought it was Paikea's spirit looking out of her.
I doubt if the new king charles would do anything about it. I am sure rimpac intends to destroy the ecosystems and wildlife in the pacific ocean. Japan's fukushima dumping will be part of it. It's for the new proposed fuel for ships .. it's nuclear fuel. It will increase speed time in travel by 50 percent. Bill gates will be the devil 😈 who leads this pact. Warren buffet gave him 39 billion as a donation....
Movie is very compelling and difficult especially given the militaries of 26 countries are continually bombing up the pacific ocean in a military operation called RIMPAC lead by the usa. Sadly new zealand is part of it and sadly close to 500 dolphin whales died in October 2022. Another 200 in Australia in sep 2022. Get them away from New Zealand. It's a weird annual happening that their so called experts brush off as being natural...so improbable a similar incident happens annually and gets worse in the same area. Dolphins are going to haunt new zealand forever. They lie.
You know that was a highly underrated film she was so good in that and what a face just beautiful she would go onto play mary in the nativity story highly underrated and clean.
Paka became catatonic...he was witnessing a miracle. He then had an anxiety/panic attack. Everyone there knew that they were witnessing something on the scale of a Fatima-type miracle.
Jungle is frozen gorrilaz and grass ... just resources. Sea is full of hidden sharks You cant swim Companion is the thief bag. You can't rest. Where's my moko? Wheres' she.
Love this movie 🎬 one of my favorites
This story❤

Read the novel, too.

I wonder if any Māori have actually ridden a whale, or was this just a creative embellishment?
I remember watching this part in school and trying not to cry😢 love the movie❤
I'm afraid of deep waters, which is why I'll never watch this film again.

"Which one?" "What do you mean 'which one'?!"
I did this story as a literature book in English literature class... And passed with flying colors .. I knew the book like the palm of my hand.
What gender you are doesn't make a Leader. Who you are defines a Leader.
Great acting

I'm proud to be Maori.. this is a movie. But the story is our folklore for the people of Whangara NZ. Beautiful movie
You should be proud. I’ve some Hawaiian blood myself and hold great pride in it.
Kiaora cous, ko Paikea ko Paikea
Truely a chilling scene… I was especially moved by the part where she said, “it’s whalin’ time” and whale rided all over them

Hi Dow
If I could’ve rode a whale I would’ve! I’m serious.
I don’t know how they did this but it’s amazing should be on how’d they do that?
You know it’s good to know there’s still something out there the whole family can watch true art and clean.pscy.
The whale in this was the best actor in cinema history!
This was the best small picture for the century. Whales are holy because there voice speaks to theLord .
Lord Vishnu?
I don’t understand this was one of the best pictures of the 20th century. She went on to make the nativity story.pscy.
You know that was a highly underrated film she was so good in that and what a face just beautiful she would go onto play mary in the nativity story highly underrated and clean.
I always when from when pia rubs faces with the whale til grandpa finally has his come to jesus moment.
New Zealand is beautiful.
Kala’i said he was going to be there for a while
This reminds me of the guy who had sex with a dolphin!

This movie stuck with me. 11 when it came out, 25 when I understood the weight of the film. There aren’t films like this anymore that’s for sure 😔
Jungle is frozen gorrilaz and grass ... just resources. Sea is full of hidden sharks You cant swim Companion is the thief bag. You can't rest. Where's my moko? Wheres' she.
