Travel through a 1300-foot railroad tunnel. Rare video footage.

Rare view normally only seen be railroad crews. Going through this tunnel is one of the things I miss most about being an engineer. I was always fascinated at how this was constructed. Many years ago, the tunnel had collapsed. The Army corps of engineers wanted to dig the top of the hill off. The railroad decided to dig another tunnel alongside of the old one.

31 years on the railroad. A lot of great memories, some great, some sad, and some tragic. This video captures amazing memory of almost being scared out of life itself. Many more video memories to come.

This video covers an eight hour journey in 54 minutes. We will cross over a lift bridge and a swing bridge, and we also travel through a 1300 foot tunnel. Most of the questions ever asked to an engineer are answered in this video. If you know someone who has worked on the railroad encourage them to see this video. PLEASE LIKE AND SUBSCRIBE.... If you're interested in learning more about railroa...
Amtrack does 79 mph this is perhaps the conductor making this utube
So at 10mph a 1 mile long train would take How long to cross? Only 5 min if bridge is 1/2 mile. But waite the back of train must ceosx too. So yes 10 min to cross. If train was longer. If 2 miles long would take another 5 orc10 min. Hard to calculate.
do you cross any diamonds in this video, if so give me timestamps
My last cab ride on a freight train was when I was a conductor. Another train hit us head on/ 8/27/2014 Hoxie head on train crash. I was busted up pretty bad. Oh well, I got a decade of railroading under my belt.
Excellent video! When was this taken?
I’m a big kid at heart. I had always wanted to be an engineer and looked to it as a dream job, but life didn’t work out that way and between family and having a schedule that was dependable outweighed my wants. However, I still get to dabble in trains with my son both in models and our ride on train around our home. Awesome video ❤
Fantastic love it very nice
Why weren’t the gates down at 36:22?
I have been working on the railroad in Ukraine for 14 years. Thank for the video! That was really exciting trip👍
Thanks for a fantastic video. Check out the Don Coffey chanel to see UK cab rides, some interesting stuff.(I have no connection with his chanel)
Mr. Mark, I am Calvin, a 62y/o male, who lives in Atlanta, Georgia. I haven't been to Minnesota or Wisconsin, this was a very informative train ride( informative about signs, train's operation, destination, towns along the way and sites, how to cross the great Mississippi River. Thanks for this ride. God Bless 🙌 🙏.
Retired grandma here. Big train fan, loved this video. Beautiful landscape, and interesting commentary. I used to operate light rail before retiring, and was in awe of my 200 foot consists (usually 2 95foot cars). However, your mile+ long freight trains are much more awe inspiring than my piddly little trains. ;-) Thank you again for a great video! 😊
The Mississippi River is not only a vital transportation and commerce route; its use or denying its use to someone else has been a strategic tactic for the freedom of this country and the foundation of its defense. We have General Grant tying up the South at the Battle of Vicksburg and Andrew Jackson at the Battle of New Orleans. thank you 🧑🎤 🏁 👩⚖️👩🎓
Hey, nice videos. I'm working in railway industry and I'm facilitating with trains. Can you do longer videos with gopro attached on your chest or hat so we can see how you operate locomotive if its not classified lol 😂❤
Not just KIDS!…👏👏Freight trains are busy around Denver! Night horns, white noise, leave windows open, great for “snooze”inducing, and turning off your brain!
now that was cool to see
Some very beautiful views!
Lock and dam number 2 is at Hastings, Mn. which is where this train crosses the Mississippi Rive. Lock and dam number 3 is at Redwing, Mn.
Thanks for nice ride, sir! Very informative for a non railroad worker…BRAVO!
Then I'm kiddo anytime of the day... being 46
I very much enjoyed the ride and your narration. Loved it....! Thank you!
I can testify that this story is true and I would do it again😅
That is a pretty funny story. I follow some truck driving channels and when the say "the boss is calling" they are really referring to their wife. LOL
how true. never get in the way of a mother protecting her cub
Certainly a scary story. Glad to hear nothing bad happened to you. Thanks for sharing!
my pleasure. Next video is a funny story when my wife called while on a train.
That is a great story. Was catching a ride on a train a common thing? Does it still happen? What happens to someone if they get caught doing that?
Riding a train was a common years ago. Of course, when the government gets involved the legality of riding a train became an issue. Yes it does still happen this present day and it is with the hope of not getting caught. Their is a variety of charges that can be brought, trespassing is the most common charge. Thanks for your interest.
Yes,they are still there. There are even UA-cam content providers that "ride the rails".
I can't believe I got sucked into that punch line 🤦♂️
Love this video
John 15:13 “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 3:7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Romans 10:9-10 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. John 3:18 “He that believeth in Him is not condemned; but He that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. Psalm 14:1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

Wow we thoroughly enjoyed that train ride with you! Very informative and scenic. We wish you'd make more!
Im currently a truck driver but im interested in trains. Ive been contemplating getting into the train business. I just dont know if the money would be much different & how stressful it is compared to trucking....
I'm a retired aircraft mechanic who has always had a passion for trains. This is a fantastic video!! This 63 year old kid loved it!!
What year was this? Early 2000's ?There are SOO LINE locomotives still painted in the red and white sceem. Nice video. Cars on the road also make this about 20 + years ago.
His definition of FRED was particularly correct. Most of us refer to FRED as a F..flashing R..rear E..end D..device.
Fantastic video!
Sometime in the next few years, this train will no longer be needed, as the Portage Wisconsin power plant is due to be decommissioned. I believe this will happen in 2026. Another sad day for the railroad and the coal mines out west
Interesting/informative/entertaining. Excellent photography job enabling viewers to better understand what the orator is describing. Enjoying this presentation from the comfort zone of my computer room. Along the " Space Coast " of Florida🐊🐊. Wishing viewers/R.R. employees a safe/healthy/prosperous ( 2024 ). 🌈🎉😉. Remember the singing break man Jimmy Rogers Sept. 1897-May 1933 He was a genuine R.R. breakman.
Glad you enjoyed it!
54 year old rail fan. Awesome video!
Thank you very much!
I saw only two locomotive units at the front of the train. Were there more either in the middle or at the end of the cars? Entertaining video!
I shot this video almost 20 years ago. on the train I was operating for this video there was only two locomotives. Operating with additional locomotives either in the middle or on the end of the train was not a common practice yet... thankyou again for watching this video.
People need to quit complaining about train horns the railroads where there before you moved in to the house close to the track. Learn to live with the train horn or move! The train horn is designed for safety to tell you a train is approching the crossing. Its an accident waiting to happen and they will.
I know a woman who “drove trains” as she put it, then became a Respiratory Therapist at Stanford, working with very young patients. She enjoyed this but she returned to “driving trains”. I’m not sure why but she was happy.
What a great, educational and entertaining video
thankyou. Very glad you enjoyed it.
I well thanks
I’m 18 years old, and I love this video. The sound of those AC4400CW’s is amazing.
the newer locomotives are well insulated for sound. when I first started in the 70s there was no insulation, it's surprising any of us have retrained any ability to hear.
@@markmckinney6339 I heard the AC4400’s are pretty well insulated, next to their older counterparts like the dash 7. It’s still a very state of the art, and modern locomotive these days. Definitely my favourite. Also CP has been steadily upgrading these locomotives with new GEVO style fuel tanks, better insulation, and a new Mitsubishi electric system. CP began receiving these in 1995-2004, so I spent my whole childhood growing up around these. Holds a very special place in my heart because these were involved in my first major memories rail fanning.
I thought that FRED was a flashing rear end detector
you are correct. instead of detector it is device.
For 60 years, I've wondered what it would be like to ride in a locomotive. This is a great video! Thank you!
Very cool video
Thanks!
very imformative and fun, thank you
Great video, thanks! (am a former Conrail engineer btw)
Great video.
Enjoyed the video. Thanks for making it
FRED= Flashing Rear End Device.
