How to Store your Running Poles
Переглядів 14114 днів тому
Efficiently storing and accessing poles during a run is an essential skill. Learn how to plan when and how to put your poles away in your race vest to ensure smooth transitions. Incorporating pole management into training runs will build comfort and familiarity, even when fatigued. Practice storage techniques, such as using a mirror for guidance, to ensure participants can easily access their p...

It’s important to adapt pole usage to the various terrains encountered during runs. Different gradients - uphill, downhill, and flat - affect pole techniques. Specific strategies can be adopted for navigating steps, technical terrain, and traverses, such as using a double pole plant on steps and storing poles when scrambling. We encourage flexibility in technique based on terrain but, overall, ...
How to Use Poles Downhill 📉
Переглядів 15821 день тому
Using poles for running or walking downhill offers benefits such as added support, balance, and braking. Planting poles in front and down the hill will relieve weight from the legs, especially during steep descents. "Palming" the poles is a useful technique for putting weight through the poles and jumping over obstacles. We encourage experimentation with uphill techniques, like the step-by-step...

The “gallop” technique is a variation of the double pole plant where the poles are planted slightly offset for a more sustained push, resembling the movement of cross-country skiing. It is particularly effective for uphill terrain, providing continuous momentum. Key points include keeping arms straight, alternating pole leads to avoid strain, and counting steps for rhythm. While challenging to ...

Great series of videos
What vest is that?
The vests worn by Kate and Dan on this video are the Harrier Kinder 10L race vests. You can learn more about them here: bit.ly/3VVkhIS 😁
😂😂
Is it safer to not have your hands through the straps when going downhill? Potential increase for worst injuries if you go over and your hands are through the straps. Also more chance of landing on your poles. If your not using the straps you can throw the poles out of the way
Great question
Using the straps will ensure that you can still use a bit more your wrist and release a bit of grip even while descending. If you don't feel 100% confident on your descent or you're descending very quickly, please feel free to have your hands off the straps to avoid any potential wrist injury. In general, we'll recommend to practice so you can find out which technique works best for you! 😁
Not many "corporate elites" are that in touch with their products! 😂❤ Great video Kate!
@@Mookiethedog he he I definitely like to keep it real 🤣
Look you're a grown man, if you want to naruto run just do it - dont invent some pole nonsense to justify it pal
@Christopher0601 you're a grown man, if you don't want to use poles just keep scrollin'
@@harrier_trail_runningI don’t think he meant it as an insult :)
@@thecheapdinho1839 neither did I :)
Now, you should upgrade it again to titanium.
I hope they have been tested that getting them in and out of a quiver is easier. I found the current style are quite easy to get in but a nightmare to get out and I end up taking my pack off as the mudguards catch on anything in the way
Hi Tom, thank you very much for your feedback. The new style has slimmer mudguards and handles so they are easier to store. Many members of our community attaches them directly to the race vest and it has shown to feel more comfortable and less 'invasive'. Sarah from Harrier
@@harrier_trail_running thank you for the prompt and positive response - great brand great service and great products 👍
Both look great
Brilliant. I already use Harrier for jackets, waterproofs, and safety equipment. I’ll definitely get the Helvellyn PRO Carbon Z-Poles as soon as they are out to replace my older Black Diamond poles. I full time run and train for ultras and multi-day events like Spine, Wild Horse 200, Cheviot Goat etc, and I have great confidence in Harrier kit. Well done Kate !!
Thank you so much for your message, you're a trail superstar! We absolutely love to hear this and wish you the best on the next adventures you'll have in your sights. ✨ - Sarah from Harrier
Updates sound great! The Pro carbon are solid already but added strength and lighter too is never a bad thing 🤓
Thank you very much!
Excellent. Strength to strength
Thank you!
Just pre-ordered some new Pro carbons 👍 , will they fit in my salomon quiver any better than my previous pro carbons or are there any plans to produce a Harrier quiver in the future ?
I'm hoping this is the case, too. That's my only problem with the harrier poles, although they're a lot cheaper than, say, leki, the hassle of having to take my pack off to get them in and out of my quiver just makes me not bother taking them with me. With them being 25% slimmer, I'm hoping they fit in with ease.
I don't think the quiver is the problem I think it is the poles and more specifically the mudguards
Good morning all, I can confirm that the handles and mudguards have been designed to be slimmer so they are easier and more comfortable to pack in your race vest (or quiver). We're not looking at producing quivers for now as our race vests currently offer ways to store poles but it is really helpful feedback, which I'll transfer to the team as we always look for ways to improve and offer you what you're looking for when running. - Sarah from Harrier
Great to hear of the improvements. I’ve been using your current premium poles and love them. Mind you, all your gear is awesome.
Absolutely love to hear this, thank you very much!
Amazing! Love seeing a small business develop and grow! Keep up the good work, Harrier team!
Thank you so much for your support!
Great information....didn't even mind it took 60 seconds!!
Looking forward to this - will it just be posted in this channel?

Anyone know if the zip flap is an issue when using it partly open? I.e. does it flap around? Thnx. Sheffield.
Fantastic piece of Kit!. You guys are awesome!
Useful thanks
I saw this presentation in-person at the NEC. The techniques made a huge difference to my hiking and I was able to complete the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge in under 10 hours in June! Thank you
@jmarsh769 ah wow Jon that is brilliant! So glad it helped and congrats on your YTP. All the best, Kate
So helpful, thank you!
I've had mine close to two years now and it's the best jacket I've owned. Kate and the team are unbelievably helpful too. In terms of Race Vests, I'm interested to see development under their brand of these as the years pass. I've had a 10L Harrier, and I do still prefer the Salomon approach on the vests (personal preference), but that's not to say the Harrier variants are not good. This jacket, to me, is their really shining piece; I've looked around, and it seems impossible to find a jacket close to as good as this for the price. I use it for running, walking, cycling and just popping to the shops. When this one has seen better days, I will definitely buy another.
Great info!
How can anyone watch this and not want to try it!! ❤
What poncho do you use?
Great tips! Thanks 🙏
100% dude! Very wise!
Great tips! Used this technique on my West Highland Way trip at the end of May. Made a huge difference 🙂
Stephen, the amount of times you've had to watch this video to edit it you defo should be an expert now and be able to do the talk better than me 🤣 sorry!
Lovely and professional demonstration 👏👏
What a great "group" of interesting "individuals". All the best to you all.
my catbells poles got me through 33miles of the Serpent trail 100km race last weekend (a DNF for me but over half completed, i'm not unhappy). They were a godsend on the downhills and through the slippy mud and bogs we encountered. I don't think people give walking poles enough credit for being extra stability through uneven/slippy terrain. 👌🏻👌🏻
Enjoy your ultra. Have an awesome day out. And check out Pegasus ultra running events. They got to 51:49 women: men participation in an event this year.
And see you at the start line Saturday!
Eat, sleep, drink, walk, and manage stress
Truly inspirational video and a testimony to all the women and also this brand - I am getting back into running again after recovering from long covid and this video could not have been timed better for me as I commence a year long journey towards my first ultra - and I am officially now a harrier fanatic to boot!
Thank you so much for your message and welcome back! It's so nice to hear you are on the right path towards your first ultra. Myself and the Harrier team wish you the best of luck and can't wait to see you rock the trails! You've got this 👏 - Sarah from Harrier
What a wonderful film and a wonderful, inspiring group of women ❤ Go Harrier Trailblazers!
What an inspiring group - it really captures the spirit of all of us. Awesome.
Thank you Simon 🙌
Amazing, great video and very inspirational. I have Beckers Muscular Dystrophy and used to use a wheelchair i worked hard to get active and work through C25K etc - it's hard but I love running, i'm not very quick but my ultimate dream is to run an ultra but being slow means that cutoffs are an issue for me, not sure i'll ever be able to run fast enough to do any ultras! I did London Marathon 2 years ago in 8hrs but unsure if i'll ever get to do an Ultra unless i can speed up a little!
What an incredible journey already, massive kudos! You can definitely do an ultra! Check out organisations like Pegasus Ultra Running, they operate with no cut off, so you don't feel pressured all the way through 😉
This is a great video for anyone in doubt of should they or shouldn't they. Well done!
Thanks so much for watching! Yes absolutely! Just do it 💪
Two suggestions: 1) White products for summer heat. Black is too hot in the summer for vests, packs... 2) Single zip rain coat with pit zips, required to vent heat and moisture, important. Cheers, Chuck Burr, Joshua Tree, California.
Great ideas, Chuck! Keep your eyes peeled because we do have some plans for more waterproof jackets 👀 in the future!. Great idea about lighter colours too 👍
Thank you, very helpful! Cant wait to use the Helvellyn Pro poles on my trail run this weekend in preparation for my first ultra in June
Thank you for the video. I was confused why my pole kept collapsing haha. I wasn't pulling the top part fully and letting it click!
This was brilliant, thanks so much. I've just brought my first pair of poles (thanks Harrier!) in advance of my first Ultra, so this was really helpful, thank you.
I have had the jacket for a year and wandered what those poppers were for!! #gamechanger😊
Any thoughts on a hi vis version for rural training. Best jacket I own
AAH, I love Anna- Marie shes fab!
Gonna buy one for my phone and wallet while doing a beach trip
Who knew! Trying it now!
Mine came today. Eek, very excited
