GEM Collective
Приєднався 22 лип 2022
The Geographies of Embodiment (GEM) Research Collective is a community of public scholars demanding and embodying liberation. We are a research community formed with one intention: making our lives more livable.
We are a small group focused on valuing lived experiences and other non-academic knowledge production and sharing. We hope to play with ideas of knowledge: who has it, who remixes it and for what purposes.
We are intent on creating spaces prioritising marginalised peoples that allow us connection, comfort and care, opportunities to learn from each other, and with an aim to move at a gentler, more livable pace.

Ayah Speaks - poetry - Solidarity for Sudan event
Introduced by Afia Abusham, Ayah Speaks shares two of her poems, Anxiety Across The Sea and I Can’t Imagine How You Feel, at the Solidarity for Sudan event.

Ayah Speaks is a bilingual poet, actor, hike leader and workshop facilitator. Her work centres on themes of mental health, mindfulness, identity and soul empowerment.
She describes her poetry as offerings to the universe in a medley of light and uncomfortable truths served in a comical way with a hint of sarcasm. Ayah prays that the message in her poetry today is Witnessed, may you explore what your soul seeks as Ayah Speaks…

In September, GEM Collective held Solidarity for Sudan, hosted by and collaborated on with Dalston Solidarity Cafe.
The event was a beautiful collaboration with Captain Support, Madaniya, Solidarity for Sudan, East African Collective and Nejma Collective. With poetry, art and personal sharings, it was a reminder of the beauty, strength and collective spirit of the people of Sudan, as well as all they have suffered.
We raised awareness about the ongoing counter-revolutionary proxy war in Sudan, and funds for two Sudanese causes:
- Saving AlGeneina’s Classrooms Without Borders project
- Hope Relief and Rehabilitation for Disabilities Support
See more details at gemcollective.org/solidarity-for-sudan-resources/
This event was funded by a Synergi Grant award from NSUN.
