QR class A10 No 6 Cairns Range 1991

1991 celebrated the centenary of the line to Kuranda in North Queensland. To mark the occasion two steam locomotives were sent to Kuranda to run some local trips. One of these was A10 class number 6 of 1865. A trip was organised to run down the range in the early morning and work a special from Redlynch up the range before the tourist trains arrived.

QR Locotrol II test train 1987
Переглядів 5856 років тому
QR Locotrol II test train departing from Callemondah (Gladstone) on 21-Apr-1987. This train was hauled by 4 electric locomotives, one of each class existing at that time. They were 3501 (D.F.Lane) and 3103 in the lead and 3607 and 3205 as the remotes. The diesel-electric locomotives were included in the consist as the overhead wiring did not extend to the coal mine at that time and they were re...

A ride on a loaded coal train from Mt. Larcom to Callemondah in 1985 crossing a couple of trains on the way.
Great clip
Listening to the sounds from around 4:10 onwards was like ASMR. I felt like a baby being rocked to sleep. Brought me back to my high school days riding those trains to and from school. No smartphones for distraction - just (unintentional) mindfulness. It was also noticeable how much simpler and shorter the announcements were on arrival to each station (not just the name of the station, but all of the other things they mention these days involving safety/curtesy/common sense) alongside all the extra beeps and bleeps associated with the doors opening and closing
From Dutton ok to the Island has had a 3 Rd road for years now . This is an old video from the 90 IES or there abouts .
Back then the seats were really squishy and very comfortable now they are hard firm and very uncomfortable on the new train sets in qld
I have to agree I am not a big fan of the new seats 😕
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 what I see here!!! I got "dragged" to Brisbane as a 14 year old kid in '88 from Sydney instead of going to Oz Steam '88, but *_OH THE MEMORIES_* of then, 1995, and later Brissy trips!!! 💖💖
Wow impressive 😅😊
Ah back when the emu windows weren’t all keyed
I noticed this and it both shocked and pleased me! Was this because these EMUs were so new at the time? Or was the culture around graffiti of train windows different back then?
I love the 80s EMU my first ride on EMU from ipswich to ekka in early 80s i was awe with sound and the A/C, What a memory lane of Expo 88 it was the best time
As a kid, every time the electrification failed or they just put em on for extra capacity, I was so stoked to score a diesel haha
Tickets ,please ,tickets. Hang on I'll just change the date with a Bic pen lid by embossing a number 1 next to what's on there
Also if you were entering a busy train station during peak hour, it was basically just a curtesy flash of your ticket for the station hand standing there - there’s no way they could read it properly (so an expired ticket worked in a pinch haha)
What is the loco at the front I feel like it’s the one I saw at the Ipswich workshop railway museum
The trains weren't fully electrified until 1993, but nonetheless, I like steam trains the best!
As a loco maintainer (electrical) in Townsville at the time, I remember these locomotives very well. Three years after this video was made there were none of these Clyde locomotives left on the coal fields. Electrification took over and all these locos moved to general freight duties throughout Queensland. Anyone working in loco maintenance at the time probably breathed a sigh of relief. That influx of Clydes into the state signalled the end of the era of English Electric locomotives (Pommies). These Clydes were far superior in design and and much easier to maintain as well as possessing a higher level of reliability.
Single Track between Gladstone and Rockhampton my there must have been alot of delays with all the crosses of coal trains! Now days its still prone to delays but on electrified double track! It really needs Quad Track 2 for coal and 2 for everything else.
amazing to see some of the EMUs still operational sadly they'll all be gone soon...but also amazing to see Brisbane back in the past, I was born in 2001, but so much has remained the same its quite remarkable to see
Thanks for Sharing Russell
Aldoga is very very different these days.
Amazing historical video especially the Pinkenba line at the end. Thanks for uploading.
thought that was a 1551 class at 08:17 ish 👍
Who can thumbs down Brisbane history caught on Camera. I was born in Brisbane and will always be a very special place for me.
The train service to Pinkenba was supposed to be electrified, but it never came into fruitition
This is incredible footage you've captured here. Thanks for uploading it to UA-cam!
Indeed. Unless you've experinced a type of train you don't know what it realy like. Ive never been on these multiple units & Brisbanes newer sets feel pretty much the same as new EMUs in the other cities. These old sets have more sound getting inside than I thaught, coupled to their fast acceleraetion, They'd actually feel fast and exiting, especially if their ride wasn't the best. This is a rare video where you really get a decent feel to being on the train. So, it looks like Adelaides 2000 class DMU & not these EMU sets braught boring sounproofing & smoothness to suburban rail travel? & both these pioneering suburban trains are now retired!
7:44 Is this where the Canberra hotel was?
So many things have changed. And so much infrastructure gone... and they call it progress. Do you think the politicians of today really know what they have lost? And We the people have let them get away with having torn down, sold off, or run into the ground just about every public owned Utility. 20yrs Service with what's left of QR. Nothing like the 24yrs my Dad have them 1971 - 1995.
Pinkenba station! :)
Glimpses of Expo 88 are exciting. And I remember the green and blue colored seats. Was wondering what the signs announcing the trains looked like...which was interesting. But in many ways, things are remarkably similar 31 years later.
Brisbane Limited passing at 3:30.
Thanks for that. Until you pointed that out I thought we were still on the Tennyson branch.
I loved the Diesel engine at the end to Pinkenba. Thanks for sharing!
do you have the full video?
Love it especially the EMU's without yellow warning ends and doors and those seats blue check and green check - so 1970's
Dave E I think is 1990s
@@christiangarnett4806 You think Expo 88 was in the 90s?
This was before my time so seeing the (older) trains without the yellow trim and factory new look is very jarring and cool
The safety yellow and the maroon seats came in during the early to mid 1990,s.
@@roydidlock1867yes, I was born in the very early 90s and I have only the vaguest memories of the green seats (so I’m guessing I didn’t encounter many)
Don’t care. Cars are better. To get places location
Why did you even watch, then?
You fucking tool.
Amazing! Especially enjoyed the Clyde footage at the end
So many memories. Thanks for posting
If you have more qr suburban videos please please post them!!
Driver, Bluff about then
An unrepeatable scene. Not to mention a Trip that actually had a photo run-bys...
Quart Pot Creek.
I have great memories of this going to work with Dad on Coalies like this in Coppabella. A bit of a misnoma, but we had 6 Headers(3x Locos in the lead 3x in the middle with LRC) up on the Goonyella system where as the Blackwater system only had 5 Headers . The more locos you had the more the multi-unit allowance, Coppabella and Jilalan were highest paid Depots. Great footage of the Job when the Railway was Great place to work. Hope you have others Russell. I'm sure Graham would. Cheers.
