Do I Regret Buying a Honda S2000 vs ND Miata?
#honda #s2000 #asmrdriving
Here's another S2000 video for the rotation, really liking this new format. Let me know what you guys think. Today we talk about what I went through for almost 2 months before making this purchase. I hope this helps steer your decision. All love for both Miata and S2K communities! Both are such fun platforms and I'm grateful we have plenty of choices with each having their own strengths. Count how many times I say "versus", and as always enjoy the video!

    I would NEVER choose a Miata over this. Drove one, and hated it. I wish I understood the hype of the Miata’s. I’m glad that car is popular for the community though. But the S2K, I’ve literally seen it on roads in Japan going through mountains is nice to see. Plenty of power and the look is timeless too.

    In late 2018 I was deciding between an AP2 S2000 and a brand new ND2 Miata. I went with the ND2, $26,000 plus taxes. It's been an amazing time with the car. Sure, having an S2000 that wouldn't have depreciated at all would've been neat, but I've really valued the daily drivability of the ND2. This motor hits max torque at 4000RPM and does 40mpg at 70mph. Combined with the light weight of the ND and some nice creature comforts like a backup cam and bluetooth, it's been a great "11 month per year" car for me. The S2000 is awesome north of 6000RPM. The ND2 is awesome, well, everywhere.

      @@onsite_nate both of the cars in question are machines to be enjoyed and consumed, not preserved in some garage and never driven! The chief S2000 engineer begged owners to enjoy their cars for decades to come, and that means wheels in motion A Miata might be "better", but an S2000 is far more special.

    Good video. I have owned an 08 WRX and now a 18 STI. It was my daily for about 25000 miles. Now I have a Jeep for my daily so... I put a bit into the STI. The biggest thing is GO THROUGH A PRO. Hey man, I've been following since your first canyon videos in the old 370Z Sport. It's been neat to see your collection grow over time. The points that you raise here are really good questions for any car enthusiast to weigh when considering a classic car purchase. My daily is in fact an ND2 RF, and my weekend car is a 1.6L NA Miata. Owning an old car can be rewarding and fun (much more so than a modern car), but can also become exhausting when you have to rely on a 20-30 year old car for all your mundane tasks. Using old Japanese convertibles for 5 hour highway drives really saps the fun out of them. Determining your use case should really be #1 in selecting your car, which can be hard to be realistic about. I agree on only recommending something like an S2K or NA/NB as a second or third car, as that's when they'll really get to shine. The mystery of previous owner maintenance and the luck of the draw in buying a well-used car makes every classic car purchase substantially different to the next. I've seen a fair share of beaten but solid cars, and tragically beautiful classics that required just about every meaningful part replaced. Judging a used car is also much harder to navigate especially when someone is newer to the hobby, not to mention that substantial maintenance can be an overwhelming concept at that stage. All that being said your last point is a big one. Everyone has their own dream cars and no spec sheets or reviews will change the stuff that you're interested in. Finding cars that make you happy is the ultimate goal, and when people have the means to become the caretaker of a classic, that's a wonderful thing. The car world needs more of that, especially as less and less enthusiast vehicles are produced. Your AP2 is beautiful - I hope you put another 100k on the clock!

    For an almost 20 year old car, the S2000 holds up pretty well for its age compared to other cars. The S2000 is timeless, I'm on my 3rd AP2, this time I'm keeping her forever. I've owned cars with way more power and performance than the S2000, but the visceral feeling of driving the S2000 is unmatched. The S2000 is a great easy car to maintain, almost all maintenance items you can do yourself. I see you're also in the Vegas area. Come out some time to the meets.

    Just found your channel and UA-cam sent me to exactly what I wanted haha (just subbed). I was considering an STI, living in Michigan, Subbies and snow are best buddies, I know. I've always wanted an STI but buying a car that you have to really baby it (considering "unhealthy" for the engine to go past 6100 rpm) to keep it alive, wouldn't feel like accomplishing my dream. I'm also considering a GR86, Evo X or V6/V8 Muscle car (as there aren't many windy roads in MI). Those options would be for daily driving and I have no kids. Penny for your thoughts?

    • @onsite_nate
      @onsite_nate 11 днів тому

      So glad I could add some insight! But yeah, maybe it’s blown out of proportion but it does worry me and it’s sad because it’s a performance car haha. There are reliability mods that are widely recommended. I’ll say though trying to find an mint Evo X at a reasonable price might be difficult compared to the STI, plus it’s a 10yo car still so I’m not sure how much more reliable those are. If you want an all weather sports car, GR Corollas or Golf Rs seem solid 👌🏼 Or look into STI with an extended powertrain warranty. Other than the motor every other component seems to be bullet proof

    • @vmmramos
      @vmmramos 10 днів тому

      @@onsite_nate I know about the reliability mods, Killer B oil pickup, oil pan and tray, AOS, Radiator, Oil cooler, Cyl 4 cooling mod but its like 2k just on parts, Oil pan job is prob a pain in the ass I wouldn't do it myself and my budget is 35k max. Toyota is denying warranty in GRCs in case you went past 85mph, its ridiculous

    • @vmmramos
      @vmmramos 10 днів тому

    The WRX by far has the shittiest resale value. I bought my 2014 WRX for 20K with low miles in 2021 and now I can find them for 8-13K. Overall though I’d say the WRX is a better driver as long as you’re not trying to make it fast 😂 little lighter, cheaper maintenance and parts, smaller wheel and tire, better MPG, not as packaged out so less things to go wrong, cloth seats easier to maintain and better for the heat, cheaper clutch change etc. Funny enough you mentioned the road noise inside cause it fucking sucks! By far the worst thing about the WRX-STI platform.

    • @onsite_nate
      @onsite_nate 11 днів тому

      Forsure. my brain tells me the WRX but my heart wants an STI it’s so terrible haha. And yeah the road noise especially with the seats down when you have your friends gear is awful 😅

    I bought my STI new back in 2019 and can relate to most of your points. The best mod I did was to replace the 19” wheels with 18” WRX wheels. Better ride, acceleration, mileage all in one.
