    Wow...that NW stone does look very odd! I bought one of their 8x3x1 blacks along with one of their 6x2x1 translucent blue/blacks about 5 years ago...and they are both extremely fine, dense stones. No porosity what-so-ever. The black looks like the Dan's black that you have there. Using your density calculation...they both came out to 2.79. I'm sure the calculation is less than precision...but it's in the ballpark as these stones are very uniform dimensionally. I'm sure I could get more precise using water displacement...but I'm way too lazy for that! I can't wait for your follow-up videos on these stones.

    Out of all the razor finishers I’ve used.. The black hard or translucent Arkansas is by far my favorite.I use a synthetic progression to a coticule.Then after running the coticule I use the Ark. It leaves the razor with a smooth crazy sharp edge!

    Surprisingly, I had to lap my ultra fine that I had ordered. It wasn’t flat at all even though they advertise them as lapped and tested. It didn’t look like anyone ever tested it either. Thankfully mine does a fine job just without slurry doing the running water. I like to use a dish soap water mix after that gets more out of the stone after it had started sticking under water.

    • @TimShaves
      @TimShaves 6 місяців тому

    Have you looked at the information on lapping and dressing the stones? The Dan’s are typically in shape to hone out of the box. Others have been said to not be flat and a little coarse for razor sharpening.

    Exactly what I'm going with tonight, Tim - Proraso "Green" and the 10066 Omega with boar the knot. I like the cool menthol of the Proraso green, even lingers a bit after the shave. I'm shopping now for a decent "Budget" Simpson brush w/ a smaller synthetic knot. Easier for me to see where to apply the lather, but still has the back-bone to get a scrub. Take care, thanks for the presentation...

    • @TimShaves
      @TimShaves 7 місяців тому

      Great setup. It's a classic for a reason. The Simpson T1 or T2 might be in your wheelhouse for a smaller synth knot with backbone. I don't like the backbone as much on my T3 but you might enjoy it more.

    From what you are showing here, MTF is not tricky to lather. You and a few other youtube channel presenters have shown lather-making with MTF yielding very apparently good lather. In fact much of what you are doing here is like how I make lather in a bowl. I see about one-eighth teaspoon of soap spread onto bowl bottom, and you are adding small increments of water and mixing into the bowl thoroughly.

Lot of black stones from Whetstone Company are confirmed to not be novaculite, are doustone stones, they recognize that multiple times. They apertise it to "produce surgical edges", but are way far to surgical black wich ii the hardest\finer black beside tranclucent black
