Garmin XT to BMW GS1250 Nav Cradle best conversion ever, probably.

After watching every video possible i came up with this idea to fit my Garmin XT to the BMW cradle, you do have to buy a couple of small bits but no drilling involved just a bit of glueing. I would like to thank, www.ebay.co.uk/usr/marmac_1353 for the spacer. www.ebay.co.uk/usr/moto_gs for the Garmin XT BMW Sat Nav GPS Connector plug. www.westwardropeandwire.co.uk/ for the screws. www.bosch.co....

Hello from California. I have the same GSA 1250. Thank you for showing the OBD connection. Purchased the same OBD and software. Pretty cool!
I think you could only remove bowden tubes and left the servo inside the eliminator is waste of money.
Does the fault code disappear once ridden as I don't have a code reader Thank You
Je nachdem welches Paket man möchte. Mit dem OBDLink MX+ könnte man natürlich auch verschiedene Fahrzeuge auslesen und den Fehlerspeicher erstmal löschen.
What a brilliant idea!
Hi, nice to know video, are you using a particular app for the OBD2. Would be good to know the best one to use.
Hi 411shammy it is "OBDLink" www.obdlink.com/obd-apps/obdlink-app/
you can also use this one which i think allows you to reset the service intervals if you do your own servicing www.motoscan.de/# "MOTOSCAN" thanks for watching
Use a 3dam adaptor fits the bmw cradle
Well done! Thank you! Help a lot!
@@rgodinhojr thank you & thanks for watching, ride safe
You are so clever you got your phone / camera 90 degrees out😉🤪 Nice helpful video though , Robers dads brother I would leave out you don't want to incriminate him🤪🤪🤪
Thanks for the vid.
Hi Old man, thanks for the video. Hopefully this will end my nightmare with this valve. 😱🤬. Just finished mounting on my 1250 GSA. Easy as shown 👍
@peterdue932 awesome, hope the video helped. Thanks for watching 👀 🙂
Great video, thank you. I've been meaning to do this for a while and you've inspired me to get it done.
@btcbiker glad I can help, have you done it yet ? Its probably all in my mind but I think the bike goes better, certainly at lower revs. Thanks for watching 👀 🙂
@@OldManonaBike-jg3ej I haven't done it yet, of course some other stuff got in the way, HeyHo! I bought a servo buddy a while ago, which is the same as yours, different company. I'm off to Germany tomorrow (Not on the Bike) with my wife for a week, but I'll crack on with it when I get back. The main reason for taking this infernal device off my GS is to get rid of that annoying error every time it sticks. I might also post a video about it on my UA-cam Channel and I'll give you a mention if I do 😎
Do you position the bars to your own preference or do you go off the markers on the bar
bought last week the new version, no need to remove anything, you have a 3 position switch, full open, factory or totally closed.
@@krukbee send us the link dude
@@krukbee full open, that's the whole point of eliminating it. Thanks for watching 👀 🙂

@@OldManonaBike-jg3ej If the flap seizes you won't be able to open or close it. Better just to leave open i'd say.
The emission light appeared on my 1250RT last weekend, threw me into a right panic! But the only reason for this flap is for start up noise?? No other performance related benefits??
@adrianknight594 correct, if you buy yourself a handy OBDII LINK code reader you can cancel any fault codes. Fit the illuminator & no more hassle, good luck
On my 2023 GSA I removed the cables left the servo motor wire harness connected, I don't have a check engine light or any codes. Been over 2,000 miles.
What is your height?
Tank you for you great idea! For the screw it’s 40mm but what is the size? M6 M8 M10 ? Thanks 👍👍
I have this problem on my 2018 gsa with 12000 miles on it, just took it in limp mode to Honda dealer I bought it from, they confirmed it’s seized and said they had a quick go but I’ll have to take it to a w dealer which means loading it into a van for an hours drive 🤨, that ain’t happening!!! watched a good vid on unseizing it so I’ll give that a go then buy the mx + obd reader, once it’s fixed I’m getting rid of the hurtling pile of 💩 and getting a zzr 1400😀 , these bmw bike are not fit for purpose, how the hell can they seriously be called a touring bike!!!🤨😢🙃
@julianmorris9951 I totally get you dude, they are great while they work but in true bmw fashion can be expensive to fix & service, just had the big service on mine, £590 WOW 😡
Be safe. Looking forward to the videos!
What app are you using for the diagnostic code reader buddy ?
OBDLINK, thanks for watching
You have inspired me to het one of the eliminators as i have a leo vince lv one evo coming for her and the eliminator will help it sound nicer even though as yet i have had no flap issues
@@austinmatthews347 awesome. Thanks for watching 👀 🙂
I suspect it stops the flap closing when you blip the throttle. I wonder whether this mod would effect warranty also could i leave the servo in as surely it holds the flap open
The brake cable, turning the steering wheel all the way to the left in the lock position is not a problem? There is a solution; Thanks!
Cheers for that mate
@@waynejohnson5328 Thanks for watching 👀 🙂
Nice work. I've got a 1200 gs and really dislike the valve. Awesome job. Thanks heaps, Simon, Australia
@simonomallon9035 nice one. Thanks for watching 👀 🙂
Your timing is perfect. I have had enough of greasing the flap, time to remove it. Thanks.
You will say why the f##k didn't i do that ages ago, its an easy job & works great & no more engine management light, good luck bro 👍
Hi does the obdlinkMX+ work on the gs1250 right out of the box
Yes, just download the app & it works on any vehicle with the appropriate app, i use it on my volvo
Just have about 2400 miles on my 2023 GSA. Where did you find the eliminator part?
I got mine from Race & Track day parts on ebay but quite a few places sell em inc Healtech themselves, if you google the part number you will get a choice , ESE-BM1 , thanks for watching 👍
I disconnected the bowden cables and that worked OK.
Your right, its just nice getting rid of a chuck of useless motor & the servo motor can fail eventually & start to make a horrible noise. Thanks for watching @nikoscom
Brilliant, very well described .watched you know who, he took the whole of the front off to achieve the same !.
Thank you for watching & you kind comment 👍😎
Just what i needed. I bought a horn from Amazon, an FIAMM one from the states as they do a low and high pitched version. I bought the low but it looks exactly the same as the Denali but half the price. The bending of the metal arm was the thing I needed to get mine to fit, once bent it was a 60 second fit. Cheers
You work on my bike like that ( no towels underneath the handlebars to protect from scratches) and it will be your last riser job. 😡 anybody else saw the scratch marks on the pristine handles
I wouldn't work on your bike & what i do on my bike is my business, i have many scratches because i ride it, does yours sit in the garage all the time ?
what about the garmin xt2?
What about it ? Same fitting if thats what you are asking 😉
is this same as GS911, can it reset service reminder?
I just bought the GS911. Love it.
The only alternative I would appreciate is one that will work with my multi controller. Don't have the TFT, so if the XT will not communicate with the controller, you are stuck with a dead plastic wheel. If anything happens to my Nav 5, I will switch to the bmw connected cradle or the more expensive connected navigator.
just a note, because you didn't remove the cables to lube the flap the engine light will go out its self as soon as it moves to the correct position. remove the cables and turn on the ignition then the servo goes out of scope , then you get the engine management light which then needs the software tool or dealer to reset it ( speaking from 1st hand experience ) the 1200 was different.
Sorry for the late reply, but yes you are correct, 1st of all i bought an OBDII LINK which is great 👍 for checking ya fault codes & clearing them (see my OBD II LINK VIDEO) I'm gonna buy the exhaust flap delete module & then disconnect the cables , we dont need the flap, its only purpose is to reduce noise at low revs. The cleaning & lube works for a while then comes back, i just ignore it now 🫣
I know I'm two months late here but the Just The Way It Is UA-cam channel has recently put up a really good, detailed video of how to clean and lubricate this valve. Unfortunately both WD40 and ACF will both burn off instantly meaning you'll be doing it again soon. It's well worth a look although it's a long vid. I have no connection to him but found it very informative.
Thank you for your comments, always welcome, you are right tho the valve has started sticking again since this video, so the next video will be deleting the flap altogether either by disconting the cable or by plugging a delete connector in to the sensor? Stay tuned & thanks for watching, Old Man ona Bike 👍🏴☠️
I bought the same steering wheel lifter, it had to be removed immediately after installation, because the clutch and brake pipes were critically strained when turning the steering wheel. I refused to rearrange the position of the pipes because they were placed where the factory put them for a reason, 1250 GS (2019)
Thanks… cost me $350 for an oil change and reset of engine maintenance warning.
These things are the best money you can spend on your bike ... well some of the best money. Nothing quite as satisfying as reseting your own service reminders :)
I also came up with a fix on the connectivity problems with the TFT, Nav to helmet issues. It was simple as well. It’s on my channel.
Brilliant! As my friends across the pond would say! Nothing like good ole modern ingenuity!
Sir a great video. But please you need to rotate your phone through 90 degrees so we can see a full screen video. I have given you a sub to help your channel. It took me a while to get to 1000 subs so i know it is slow going. Keep up the good work. Steve.
Nice one @steviegtr52 thank you very much , all the other videos are landscape now & started using multiple cameras, its a massive learning curve 😆
Hello, could you tell me what the 'plain' looking mount is on your handlebars used for? cheers Dave
Hi Dave, its just a spare Ram mount i haven't decided to use as another gopro or phone mount yet ? Its still got the garmin plate on, the Ram mount are very good & versatile 👌 www.ram-mount.co.uk/ #rammount
How much newton should be the tork to tie it at all.?
Standard BMW clamps are 19nm but i did go a bit higher bolting into the risers about 20nm
Hello Matey.
Yo dude how ya doing, did ya like the video 🤪
I'm doing good, thanks. So you've gone from being a bad ass head of a bike gang, to a posh speaking GS riding UA-camr. 😁 @@OldManonaBike-jg3ej
What part of the country do you live in? I'm down in the SW, I have a 2019 GSA, how do you find manhandling this bike? I'm 67 and find it a struggle, reversing it anywhere is hazardous, it actually puts me off riding it much of the time. I love the bike itself and riding it is a dream, there have been quite a few things I needed to get used to in comparison to other road bikes, would be nice to compare someone similar to myself good and bad point of views.
Hi, I am in the Torbay area, I suppose it depends on how tall you are ? I'm 5' 8" & find it ok round town with the seat in the LOW position, when on longer trips I put just the front of the seat in the HIGH position make it more comfortable. As you ride it more you will get more & more confident, you might want to try Bar Risers on it, really improves the handling & comfort, ua-cam.com/video/sU8Sruq8i-s/v-deo.html&ab_channel=OldManonaBike I love it now , the handling is great & love chucking it around. Good luck & let me know how you get on, thanks for watching.
@@OldManonaBike-jg3ej I'm actually in Bridgwater, Somerset so you aren't that far away. I'm ok riding this bike now, I'm 6ft but with the bike set standard I struggle to even tip toe, so I have changed the seat to a low rallye seat and suspension set low, I keep some weight in the panniers which improves my foothold and stability. The main problem I have is struggling to reverse the bike on or off my drive or in some parking places, if the ground is flat and level it's doable, but if the ground is uneven or sloped it's a real struggle. My drive is sloped and I cannot reverse the bike up the pavement onto it, I've bought one of those dolly trolly things to turn the bike around in the garage, but it doesn't eliminate the problem when I'm out so I have to be careful where I park.
@@Rockout52 I will try & do another video this week on turning ya bike round on a slope or small space 👍 watch this space 🤘
You might find the RT easier to handle even tho its presence is quite a bit bigger. The regular GS is also better to handle then the GSA. I'm 30, had a GSA dohc up until earlier this year, my now GS LC non adventure is quite a bit easier to move around. I always asked myself how these old folks felt handling the bike around, quite some weight maneuvering it around ;)
I completely understand! I found my 2011GSA a real handful at first. Had to persuade myself to use it around town, shopping, etc to get used to it, instead of riding my smaller bikes. Definitely takes a lot of thought before moving, stopping, turning, parking - but you do get used to it given time. “Flappy thing” was removed and replaced with a plain piece of pipe - I don’t really understand why BMW put it there in the first place!
Great video. Did you have any issues with cables snagging at full lock to lock?
No problem at all. Thanks for watching
Waste of time mate. This is an ongoing design fault on all of the 1200/1250's. Any attempt to lubricate is pointless. What will definitely happen is the motor will burn out. Disconnect the cables, ensuring the flap stays in the fully open position and the problem is gone forever.
That will be my next move @benlynch3783
@@OldManonaBike-jg3ej the flap will stay open anyway as its sprung loaded open, but soon as you disconnect the cables and turn the ignition on it will throw a code (1250 only) unless yo fit a servo buddy first.
Fantastic job my friend. Thanks for sharing
Thank you for watching, every view, comment & like is really appreciated, ride safe.
What brand risers?
Only a cheap unbranded make & i see no inferior qualities, they fit well & seem to be doing the job just as well as the expensive ones available. They cost around £25. Hope this helps & thank you for watching Old Man ona Bike 👍🤪
