Thermal Injury in MRI
DISCLAIMER: This is NOT personal medical advice.
This is a 30 minute show on why it is important to be vigilant about thermal injuries in MR imaging. I talk about the metric of tissue heating known as the specific absorption rate (SAR). I explain how to calculate SAR, the two methods permitted for measuring SAR, the FDA limits for SAR, and methods for reducing SAR. In terms of implant heating, I explain thermal injury from RF waves and gradients. I explain how implant safety measures are conducted and how different implants are tested for heating.

MRI safety
Переглядів 5 тис.4 роки тому
MRIs have always been considered to be safer and require less regulation than X-rays or CT scans, which emit ionizing radiation that can cause cancer. But MRIs can turn common metal objects like hammers, oxygen tanks, and floor polishers into projectiles. More typically, they can cause burns and hearing damage - injuries that some safety specialists fear are increasing in frequency, given the g...

Introduction to Radiobiology
Переглядів 49 тис.4 роки тому
Lecture on the introduction to radiobiology. I talk about the type of ionizing radiation, the linear energy transfer (LET), relative biological effective (RBE), cell survival curves, cell cycle, chromosome aberrations, the oxygenation enhancement ratio (OER) and the 4 R's! This lecture was given at the Brigham & Women's Hospital.

Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging
Переглядів 2855 років тому
A multidisciplinary team at Massachusetts General Hospital, including Martinos Center investigators, released to the public today an MRI scan of the human brain at 100 micron resolution. This is the highest resolution MRI scan of the whole human brain to date. The images are 1,000 times more detailed than a standard clinical MRI scan. The brain was donated by a 58-year-old woman who died of non...
How do I become a Medical Physicist?
Переглядів 10 тис.5 років тому
I gave a talk and answered panel questions at the Graduate Student Union of RSU. Unfortunately, there was no recording of the session. I decided to make my own video to recap everything I said. I'm a little sleepy, as you can see. I hope you enjoy this video. If you are thinking of becoming a Medical Physicist, this video is for you.

I'm not shown in the video but this is the day I went to Capital Hill to present my research to Senators, Congressmen/women and Legislators. It was an awesome event!
The route to medical physicist sounds convoluted yet the pay is not as remunerative compared to a physician's salary. Why not become a radiologist and break the bank?
Can a radiologic technologist become medical physicist?
I am currently doing some last minute reviewing before my radiation toxicology exam tomorrow, and this sums everything up extremely well! Great video.
So basically before the worlds magnetospheres run out and the radiation get us we need to build a big rocket ship and fly away
i want the slides of the vedio plz

Pretty good 👍
Great 🎉
Superb explaination kindly send me this presentation
Excellent
Hi Christiane I am a graduate of bsc physics from Kenya , I have a passion to pursue my master's in medical physics how can I get a chance to do it
It was very difficult for me to find an explanation of the overkill effect. You were the first one to give me the answer of why this effect happens, thank you! (see 12:20)
Thank you for this helpful video 🙏
Thank you! I understood this topic better❤
Pls can you do more videos about radiobiology. That has helped me understand LQ model ,thank you x
Fantastic presentation
Welcome back
Hy I had my BSc and MSc in Physics Education How can I become a doctor in clinical medical physics?
Great explanation 👌
THANK YOU
Amazing video 👏👏👏
Thank you so so much. Very helpful.
thanks! I am not a scientist, I can't even remember the correct order of numbers most of the time and i research radiobiology to write a scientist character in my story, yet the video was easy to understand for me. 😊
Very good and extremly helpfull. Thank you :)
Only one lecture
Can a math major go for masters in medical physics?
this seems very informative but the sound is off from min 27 and inwards
Thank you very much!
Thank you .I m starting to study for my exam (FRCR) and so luck that I found your video 😊
Dear ma'am, I did MS Nuclear Engg in 2022. Can I pursue my carrier in medical physics
Thank you, Your video was very helpful!
supper!
superb video. many thanks
Absolutely amazing and helpful, especially for young radiation oncologists! Thank you!
good content
@ 1:00:51 I guess you meant to say, you excite a slice (not an image).
Thanks for the video!
This was amazing, thank you! I took full notes :)
This is absolutely awesome, succinct and super helpful! Thank you!
Dear Dr Burton, thank you for a very informative presentation. You covered many of the questions I have currently and some which I didn’t know I had until you addressed them. I feel relieved to hear that my current academic trajectory can still take me to a clinical residency with good confidence. All the best.
How often does someone with bachelors of science in radiological sciences pursue a masters in medical physics? Is this unheard of?
Let me know if you find anything out! This is my current situation as a nuc med tech.
Good presentation.
Hii I have phd in physics I m looking for one year diploma or certificate course in any branch of medical physics In canada Please can you help me?
Hi, I noticed at 4:54 you said you get the lowest amplitude in the center of k space, but the center has the highest amplitude.
Can I be a Nuclear physicist and a doctor in medical physics??
This is awesome! Thank you so much!
I am a student Medical Physicist. Kindly connect me to Medical Physicists who can assist me through my journey
How much would it typically cost for a certification - I'm guessing the same as a year's tuition at the institution providing the certification? So the Avg slots per program are for the residency programs?
Great job.
Thank you so much 😊
Thank you for making this video.
