...I don't know, yup, yup........feels good. All the flags that a person that has no idea how a ski boot should feel at the ski shop......and, more and more money wasted on ski boots!
Can someone give me advice on a good step in telemark binding. My boot size is mens 8.5. Thank you!
We're fans of the 22Designs Outlaw X NTN binding for step in. You'd be looking for the large size.
G-3 Targa bindings are still the best ever. Just try to get into those new bindings in deep snow
Thanks for the video. I’ve skied a bunch of setups, from leather Merrills with Black Diamond 02’s up to 22 Designs Outlaws with Crispi World Cup boots. I suck equally on all of them. But I tend to crash harder on NTN.
Bishop is a true telemark company. They make a telemark specific ski that only reinforces the toe connection. No need for heel
When considering NTN - New Telemark Norm bindings please consider the TTS - Tele Tech Systems. They use the tech inserts in most modern NTN boots for great touring efficiency, low weight and excellent edge control… the only downside is they require some finesse to get into I’d advise against buying new 75mm gear if you’re just getting into the sport. You’d be buying a standard that is dieing unfortunately. However buying used 75mm boots / bindings is cheap as chips and mount them on some used 90-100mm underfoot all mountain ski… will let you know wether you’re a convert or not without breaking the bank… more money for granola bars eh!
Dang, I want to work at Bill & Pauls now!
Hi Moe! Just got mine, today! Got the "Olive" color, kinda outdoorsy...trying to figure out how to wash it before I fill it up to use...
When will people learn that drinking out of plastic isn’t healthy and you can taste the leeching chemicals. Especially if you leave water in it for a few days. God forbid in the sun. Micro plastics and other hormone effecting chemicals. Glass is the only way
Bishop skis and Freeheel Life are tele only skis, both have gotten great reviews. Voile also has skis that have done well with tele bindings.
The best tele ski out there is probably the Fey Bros Pariah -- and it has been for a while. Better flex than the Freeheel Life ski and it costs less than half what the Freeheel Life ski costs.
Um, I’m pretty sure Scott is discontinuing their 75mm boot. And next year Scarpa will be down to just the T2 & T4. Unsure what Crispi’s plans are. As for bindings, 22 Designs is rumored to be killing off their 75mm bindings. The writing is on the wall for 75mm Telemark. NTN is king. Long live the King (we hope….).
Scarpa is introducing (we hope) a new, lighter version of the TX Pro in Fall of 2024. The TX Comp (my favorite NTN boot) will be discontinued.
Personally, I don't find a big difference between 75mm and NTN, or that I can setup up NTN to the way I want, not the way it wants.. I prefer less active telemark bindings. (i.e. switchback and 7tm rather than hammerhead). You can get the same feel from NTN if you know you want that feel and don't go nuts with super stiff springs. I ski Outlaw and Medio3 with NTN and I can still get low when I want. What I like about NTN is that I don't have to always get low to get good edge control.
You said "Tyrolia" did you mean "Head" or are they one and the same? That´s interesting as Tyrolia bindings from the 80´s had a swiveling heal release--I´ve not seen any other modern binding which release laterally from the heal. Back then, I heard that Look bindings were problematic in that regard but lately, i´ve asked around and that doesn´t seem to be the case.
They are the same. Tyrolia makes all the Head branded bindings now.
@@BillPaulsSporthausGrandRapids ah..ic. Makes sense. I think the releasing heel makes a lot of sense and if they're good enough for Lindsey... Thanks for the clarification. I'm trying the Solomon shift bindings this season since I'm mostly on-resort but plan to do a little "side country" skiing.
@@bigwave_dave8468 we think you'll enjoy the Shift. Quite a few of us use them for exactly the reason you mentioned, although a few of us have some serious climbing days on that binding and have found it pretty awesome all the way around. THINK SNOW!
16 oz is a miracle
My 7 year old son cant buckle his own boots. Does anyone have any tips so I do not have to be there to put them on and take them off? He always skis with them unbuckled and I heard it is dangerous.
There's really no silver bullet here, sorry. I'd practice at home as much as possible. If they can't do it themselves in that environment, then you'll likely have to keep doing it for them or try finding a different boot. Some do buckle easier. Either way, please make sure they are skiing in buckled boots! Their safety and ability to develop better skills and technique are in jeopardy when riding loose boots.
Thanks Moe! Those are cool Nalgene accessories we haven’t seen before 👍
😂
Hi , I love the Cap Cap+ I been having mine for a while now

Enjoyed! insane recording!

You know what would be actually a fantastic improvement in bindings? If the binding makers could come together with a standardized binding mount and eliminate drilling holes in skis forever. Some ski shops are great, but I am certainly not the only one who has had a ski shop screw it up, or bought new boots that were just enough different in length to need to be remounted, but not quite enough to have the required distance between drill holes.
In concept this would be fantastic. But it would limit the types of constructions available to ski manufacturers, giving us a limited amount of "feels" under our feet. It would also eliminate the creativity and offerings from craft brands that don't work with a binding company directly. Food for thought.
@@BillPaulsSporthausGrandRapids I think this would be more than offset by the ease of mounting and performance improvement. I've had a number of "system skis" with a variety of mounting systems like Look Konect. Unfortunately they are all single option systems. You want X ski you get X binding. It would be awesome if there were a universal base rail that you could use different bindings on that all ski makers could incorporate. I get why manufacturers don't want it, they all want to say that their binding or system has some magic secret sauce. Heck, it would be a massive improvement if skis were pre-drilled and had threaded insets like snowboards. But again, that would require binding makers to establish a standard for hole patterns.
You might not agree with the manufacturer on the best place to mount the binding. They make integrated kits already and they end up in the intermediate space for a reason..
GW is a pain in the rear. Who's going to change their bindings on multiple pairs of skis when traditional boots are no longer available?
Check with your shop on the availability of din soles for your GW boots if you've got older bindings that aren't GW compatible. We've been provided soles for almost all our boots, some for free, some have a small cost to them to the customer. While not everyone is happy about the binding issue, it's hard to find an everyday skier, and even some of us performance skiers, who don't enjoy the control while walking that GW offers when not in the binders. And if you've had a chance to boot back sketchy traverses, those soles are money!!
I have mismatched feet, so I wear two different sized boots, which makes the adjustable sized boot length binding- the Look konect system for example, a godsend.
I'm very bow legged and high arched - currently skiing an old well worn pair of 'foamed sx92's with 3.5deg canted boot-sole-plates and custom footbeds. What current ski boot model would be able to accommodate my cant and arch? (foamed preferred) Thx a million!
Hello dear EXPERTS. I am a guy who lives on the other side of the world (Europe-Macedonia) and I have been consulting with a lot of experts here in Europe and got very confused about choosing the right ski boots for me. Thought it wouldn’t hurt to ask you too. I am excellent skier and I have HEAD magnum super shape and I am sticking with them. Problem is that I gained weight and get very tired during skiing so my legs hurt a lot. I want hard boots but I can’t be sure that I can manage RAPTORS. In the lower category there are EDGE LYT AND NEXO LYT. I am also not sure do I have to stick with HEAD or I can go with FISHER OR LANGE. I don’t know if you can give me advice based on this little info about me, but I would appreciate anything you say😄 All the best⛷️⛷️⛷️
Sorry for the slow reply Rob. We would suggest not buying boots from a boot fitter selling you a brand rather than a fit. Your have 4 primary numbers to consider when choosing ski boots. First is your mondo point size (length)-In a new boot your toes should be bumping the liner but be able to pull off when flexing. Second is your last or how wide your foot is. Skinny feet go into boots around 100mm, medium feet 102, and wide feet 104+. Third would be the flex. A 110-120 flex would be for agressive, techincal skiers who are no longer racing or crushing big lines all day long. The last number is price-more techical boots are going to cost more. The better boots will price out from $450-600 or so US dollars. A good boot fitter will inspect your foot, ask you some questions about how you ski, then pull out boots that fit your criteria. Put a few on and find the one that feels best out of the box. Don't worry about brand. Once you ski a day or two in them, you may need to go back for some custom work, but following this blueprint, you should end up in a boot that gives you days of fun and performance on the slopes. Thanks so much for reaching out to us for our input!
Make more amazing videos!! You should use a service such as Promo*SM!!
As a guy, I just don’t understand why only women’s boots come with that cool little furry lining at the top opening of the boot? I wish my boots had that 😂
It's the fur than makes you purr! We'll keep asking the boot companies for that feature on your behalf!
Really dude?
Agree! Much warmer and more comfortable!
lol i ski with ankle socks
Some old dudes pointing around alot
Someone watches us! We're famous :)
Two fingers and 'super comfy' sounds like potentially oversized boots.
Thanks for watching Doublethink! You're not totally wrong, but after 60+ years of bootfitting experience our general equation goes 1 finger for high performance skiers, whether all mountain or race. Enthusiasts who ski 10-15 times a year are not willing to put up with the customization that's required with a one finger fit, thus we go to two. The goal of the vast majority of these skiers is to stay out on the hill for a whole day without cold, sore feet rather than crush the steep and deep. So while a two-finger fit (this fit always correspondes to their mondo size BTW) isn't as precise, it's tight enough to not have to crank the toe buckles until skiing technical terrain. All that being said, we are very aware of the issues that arise with too big a boot fit and work hard to convince the average skier of this. Have a great season on the slopes!
@@BillPaulsSporthausGrandRapids - Thanks for clarifying the fit. What would you do for ski touring boots, where users want a performance fit on the downhill, but room for the toes on the uphill?
@@Benzknees I'd personally err on the side of comfort, then add heel padding to hold the foot in place if needed vs bumping the heck out of the smaller fit. Most touring boots are now coming with laces and that's done a lot for keeping the foot solid in the boot as well. I downsized to the technical fit on my first pair of touring boots and loved the control while skiing, but my toes hurt for days and I could not get my feet out of the liners without taking the liners out of the shells first. After two seasons of that, I said screw it and went back to my normal 27.5 shell size and am a much happier skier for it. Full transparency, I am a mid-west glacial dunes skier and out-west powder hound. I am no longer dropping tight steep chutes or icy faces. In those conditions, tight and a little uncomfortable would be a smarter choice I believe.
