Im 6+ months sober. I went through some pretty traumatic alcohol induced health problems and now that im sober, it’s really bothering me that my husband will not quit drinking. He’s a heavy daily drinker and it’s driving me crazy that he just does it right in front of me. I hate being around it. Idk how much longer I can put up with this. Do I leave? I know I can’t change him and I don’t think he’s even considering it. I can’t control him but I can control my living situation, my health and my sobriety! I’m so freaking lost😢

Thank you so much for your openness and vulnerability. I am experiencing the fruits of all the work I have put into making this important decision in the past year. I still don’t know what is in alignment with the big picture of my life, but I will never regret the work these challenges have invited me into. And how that work has led me to learn more from you 🙏

Relationships are work more than what I've ever realized being that I'm now experiencing relationships going on 9 years sober. But first things first I must keep my relationship with my HP God, then grow in my relationship with myself and then do the work to have loving, kind and true relationships with others be it my husband, my grown children, my parents my friends, coworkers ...yes relationships are a lot of work but today I can say for me the work I do is so worth it. Thank you Ref Rachael I enjoy listening to you on a regular basis. God bless you and everyone in this soul recovery community.

Kudos to you for the outcome. Why does it always seem like it's the male part of a marriage that is the one not seeing where the marriage is going. I'm not wanting to be sexist but that seems to be the pattern. The female seems to see the bad patterns and want the change and the male is blind or just doesn't want to change...

I've tried Al-Anon several times now, on and off. I never truly feel that great after a meeting and find I sometimes feel extremely depressed. I think it's because I'm sensitive to things around me that hearing other people's problems gets to be too much for me. I think that's weird. It's more like it's too overwhelming for me and too much stimulation. Is there anyone else that shares this same occurrence as me? And if so, what have you done to feel better so that you really live the program? My husband is the alcoholic and works his 12 steps for AA vigorously. It truly helped him and he loves living his life according to it. My other problem is I've had two Sponsors of which one was fantastic. But I got dropped just cause I think I backstepped at one point due to a crisis for me and so being dropped really affected me. I shared a ton of private information and felt really abandoned. And abondenment is what I struggle in life. My hsuabdn said that if I don't make two meetings a week for the next year, he's considering not continuing our marriage. This type of ultimatum is harsh on me and I know deep in my soul that I would never give him the same ultimatum. Even when he was drinking. I feel like my behavior patterns are usually in reaction to his behavior. Anyways. I'm just hurt right now and trying to find my way to feel better and work the program.

Thank you for being there. My son is in an physical, emotional and verbally abusive relationship. He called me sobbing last week. I went to him, but there's literally nothing I can do. I have no space in my house. My husband who has 33 years of recovery said he could stay for the weekend at our house. That said, my priority has become to protect my own peace and my piece of mind. I don't want the energy in my home. I have spent many hours lying awake, worried. I just keep asking God to cover my baby. My heart breaks for him. I'm at a point the where, if something tragic happens, and he is released from this world, at least he will be at peace. ❤😢

I started changing the way I interact online since listening to this and have turned shows off once any kind of emotional chaos starts. I find myself starting to type out a response to a comment that lacks critical thinking and stop myself. It’s not my responsibility to explain things to people who are obviously enjoying being part of the chaos. I just started an episode of hoarders and saw the preview comment which said enough to let me know that I wouldn’t be feeling too great after watching it. Yay me! Thank you!

Many alanon’s think recovery means you stay with these bad relationships now. To stay or leave is not the point. I had a sponsor who sad when & or if ur recovered enough u can be around these abusive people. “A true alanon, playing God, like she has any idea the best thing for me”

When I detached with love my marriage unraveled slowly to divorce. The nicest thing he ever said was “if u think I’m going to change your crazy” he found a nurse employee that would accept him. I could send her a thank you card someday. To do this u need a lot of support, even w support it’s brutal but the best thing you can do for yourself. U need to build tremendous grit first & commit to it. Very difficult.
