This is the first episode in this series where I plan to talk about the Warhammer lore and history and similarities between warhammer fantasy battle and the total war series. You can see how Warhammer total war may play out, how the magic may effect the game, and other aspects unique to the warhammer universe that may show up in total war.

How to Counter AI Onagers; Attila Total War
Use only cavalry and run left/right and when they shoot you move on the opposite side. The stones will go far away and you will not loose not a single soldier. This works only when playing with AI because when playing multiplayer with humans they will not shoot you.
Aerys II: (playing as the Huns) *BURN THEM ALL!*
It would be great if you time stamped this video and also done other videos about the best way to do individual settlments? Imma check your other videos incase im making an idiot of myself, Like Perfect Gravity said, a more in depth video! Otherwise, this was great, but too short! Im very surprised this has so few views and upvotes!
This video is 6 Years ago but it is still Golden as Ever
Great video! You do good walkthroughs keep it up.
Thanks!
this is great! Too bad you dont got more views, you deserve it for sure
You counter onagers with more onagers.
What if you're on the defensive?
The Holy Roman Empire was more or less what we now call Germany, with slightly different borders. It was not holy. It was not Roman. And it was barely an empire. Are you sure it was based off of the Holy Roman Empire?
I'm on turn 56 as the Visigoths. I'm still unsettled and I still am unable to raise a new army. I've been playing the entire game with only 3 armies! Anyone know why this is? Do I have to settle before I can start adding on more armies?
Great video! I love your breakdown of this faction
Real good points about why to do each option. This is better than most tip/tricks video.
Have you ever experimented with settling in Southern Greece starting out instead of Panonnia or does that turn out badly?
Ridiculous Chapter objectives like the ones CA wrote for this Campaign is why the 24 turns per year mod exists. To give you more time to try and pull them off.
Thanks. I find it hard to survive being pinned between the Romans and Huns.
In my opinion rome total war in 2004, should have had subjugation or occupy, sack, but they did have sack in barbarian invasion but they didn't include that in medieval 2 total war? Atleast have subjugated faction to pay taxation.
You just go back and forth with one unit of cavalry. If you do it right you will spend all their ammo and lose no men at all.
How can slavemarkets give industrial-bonuses... that is 100% Counter to reality... the slavetrade was the Whole reason the Greeks, Romans, nor Egyptians did NOT have an industrial revolution, in spite of being aware of both mill and steam-Power -a slaveeconomy doesn't allow for much industrialization, nor innovation, as history has shown, love the game, but some ideas are just so dumb, compared to real life! :)
RIDICULOUSTRUTH : While you're quite accurate in terms of innovation I'd argue that you've too strictly conflated industrial output with the industrial revolution. It can't be denied that there were some great things built with slave labor, case in point, the pyramids or maybe the aqua ducts that allowed Constantinople exist and support a huge population. Perhaps "industrial output" was a poor choice of game terms and could have been labeled "production output" or "labor output", however that's really just splitting hairs. While I don't disagree, I think it's a little more nuanced.
I'm not sure how much the game has changed in the past two years, but I find it incredibly fun and challenging to rush Mediolanum, try to eat up Liguria and Venetia, whilst slowly moving down Italy. I find that the Romans try to consolidate in Italy, whilst Gaul and Hispania gets eaten up by friendly factions, and the Huns always try to sue for peace with me. My biggest problem is the Africans, they always manage to get their hands of Spain and become world superpowers, nearly impossible to compete with. That's just my strategy though, but I loved the video man, I've subscribed :)
Good tactic against those low accuracy/low ammo onagers.
lammmmeeeee, change video title to abusing ai mechanics
I settle in the province of Macedonia and none bothers me.
How do you move the entire army at once like that? I've searched and searched and tried about every key possible, but I can't figure it out.
Highlight the unit or units you wish to move, hold ctrl or alt, while holding, click and drag to desired location. I can't remember specifically if it's alt or ctrl atm cuz it's muscle memory and I'm not at a PC, in fact it may be shift, lol. Good luck.
Alright thanks. I'll mess around and try to figure it out. Thanks a lot. Helpful video btw. I hate the Hun spam in this game, haha. They always find a way to get to you at some point in the campaign.
Yes they do, the game was named after them for a reason lol.
Indeed, haha. How do you deal with the onagers during a city assault? They usually do some damage before I can sacrifice some equites or cheap cav to shut them down. I suppose that's the only way to do it? I'll try the video method and see if it works. Although it may not work the same because they always send in horse archers straight away.
***** uhmm, there is no real fix other than being too scary to attack. You will lose some thing here and there. I have a video "Ostrigoths vs the world" I think is the title, been a while. I deal with containing them using land features such as rivers and mountains.
I know this is for Attila, but I learned a lot from watching it for Rome 2 and will definitely understand these ideas better. IMO the game doesn't really explain the PO penalties that diminish each turn very well. I really like your little webcam footage in the corner. It's makes listening to you much easier when we can see your expressions. So many video game youtubers just narrate. It's hard to watch their videos sometimes, especially the longer ones.
this doesn't work, you cant even liberate thessalonica. The option doesn't exist. And the huns ignored sirmium and burned my two villages to the nort,h then besieged sirmium while my main army was down south "liberating" thessalonica
patches change a lot, there was a time when this worked like clockwork and liberation was possible, sorry it fails now : /
its all good. thanks anyway
HI im playing age of charlemagne and one province i only had 3 option to sack or loot or occupy , so simply because i wanted to make them as puppet state i would keep sacking them. But somehow suddenly the Subjugate option appeared after 2 times of sacking , so why do i get the option now and how or what should i do to get it always, like the Napoleon or Shogun Total War that the option was always there?
you can only subjugate if it's the last settlement they control. They had to have had more than one settlement then lost them during your sackings.
Thank you so much for these videos! Even if this isn't how you're going to play in total war, you've really put a lot of effort into these videos that are so well made and structured!
Nergal's a Mesopotamian deity, so that means Babylonian, Akkadian, Assyrian.
+Hamza Changazi you got it and brought in the Akkadian/Assyrian reference, I'd just recently listened to a Hardcore History podcast and he spoke at length on this region. Definitely increased my understanding of the area.
Tangent was awesome. Do more.
2:05 As a person of Central Asian extraction, this part of the game always made me laugh/cringe. As a Warhammer fan, it perplexed me, because Thorgar is obviously a Norscan name (Torrgeirr). Also playthrough's awesome. You're my kind of guy.
I don't know how much a good man the Ollam Ri is for your daughter seeing as he stole a fish from an old man...
There's is anyways to get this game on pc anymore?Any website, anything?Have a canadian xbox version of the game and can't use it on my french xbox.
piratebay...wat machine you hav if itworks tell me cause i think mine cant handle it as it only displays splash screen then nothing pops up...
I wonder how they will simulate the "hatred" rule to the video game.
A good description on the Orcs and & Goblins, I think. Nice job.
My first thought about the Greenskins in total war terms would basically be "disgusting counter-charges". Imagine tying up your enemies with shit units and then counter charging with boar boys and your heavier orcs like big 'uns. Oh I can see entire flanks dissapearing xD Oh I can imagine it now :D
you know where i can get this game?, i used to have it on disc but i forgot where i put it.
EBay is your best bet for a game this old.
only way to get without paying over 100 dolars is piratebay if u also manage to get it work tell me ok?
Good tip, used it once. After I won the battle I felt as cheater and it spoiled real taste of victory. I stoped doing this :)
"Dwarfs" not dwarves. Twitched every time. Still good vid otherwise.
better to go back and forth with light cav in loose formation
I think that 40 min video's are fine. The battles were fun to watch.
IIIIISharpIIIII I have come to subconsciously track my time because 40+ mins takes so long to upload. I actually went to bed and let it upload over night on this video. It's good to know you like long videos tho, cuz if I'm having fun I lose track haha.
Nice video.and congrats on 100 subs
***** Thanks man, wow 100 snuck up on me!
Voth V. Np man and thats awesome
Unfortunately it won't let me reply directly mackdaddy, but I appreciate the in depth reply. Admittedly the era has never been my strong point and I looked more at the political/religious aspects than the physical aspects. It seems that the empire represents quite a large spectrum of time and is not as easy to nail down as I originally thought. I stand corrected =)
One thing that I'd like you to talk about given the focus of the TW:W trailer and some of the promotional material is the Chaos Factions(Warrior of Chaos, Daemons of Chaos, and Beastmen). At the very least they will be an npc faction that players will encounter during the course of the game. I would understand putting them off to talk more about the geography and magic as you mentioned in the video however.
The trailer certainly reflects a chaos influence, I thought for sure they'd be playable. I see your point and I'll put it on the to-do list.
A very good LP, Voth. I recently completed the WRE on hard. I frequently used your cunning level6 tip that enables night battles. That in combi with heavy infantry to hold the line, ballistari and some cav really helped a lot. Cant't wait for the next one!
Oh yes, I love night battles, every time I remember the ebdanians don't get them I cry on the inside lol. I'm glad you're enjoying it, I'm quite excited about the next episode with those looming Romans. I hope I get to it soon!
Thank you for the video, but how can someone deal with real player onagers. I mean, he can hold on and wait till my army shows up. Excuse me for my englis, I'm vulcan
***** vs other players it is much more of a mind game. You can present them with a high value target in a spaghetti line and then dance it around to make them miss. You could employ light cav to try and out flank them or you can get a cav with guerrilla deployment, like mounted brigands, and deploy close to the onagers. When the enemy marches forward to meet you, the onager will be left behind most times. That's when you strike ...
Voth V. Thanks for the advices. I will try them
Hey Voth, based on this let's play, you seem to want to meet all your chapter goals. By following these goals, do you ultimately achieve a minor victory ? Or do you sometimes have to deviate from chapter goals in order to achieve the minor victory? It seems that in my current game, chapter goals somewhat go against what I am trying to achieve in terms of the minor victory. Also, I wonder if you still get paid the gold if you achieve say, 3 of 5 chapter goals.
I'm very goal oriented lol. However I only follow goals that I feel help toward minor victory. For instance with the Ostrogoths chapter goals are horrible, they in no way match up to minor victory, and worse, they cause horrible diplomatic repercussions. So, in short, it depends on the goals/faction/conditions.
Hi Voth, I watched your video as a guide to diplomacy and got really interesting tips. But I'd point it out that offering Military Acess worked better in Shógun. In Attila, don't know why ( Playing WRE) it's not so easy. So, I grab most money in diplomatic accords either as a condottieri - selling participation in wars, despite I never really compromise since the factions are distant from me - or selling peace with factions already at war with me. I try immerse in world politics and observe what factions are pleased with my actions. After a sound victory usually is possible to get deals without doing nothing - factions propose to you and usually are good deals, I don't even try to bargain for fear they retire any proposal.
Yeah the new trait system has caused some wild cards in diplomacy. The NAP is not as strength as it was in Rome 2, and MA is not as strong a shogun, but like you said, being immersed and aware of your diplomatic standing is very important. Selling wars and peace is a great way to make money, but it can cause problems with your reliability if you do it to often with the same factions, be careful lol.
Voth V. I guess I've found the secret for Diplomacy.... Look, I vanquished an Hunic troop, have all of them executed and I have profited high from almost all factions they were at war with and also had profit and treaties with others which dislike them. To give u some hint about the Huns execution effects I'd say Alamans which I'm also at war, just raised their simpathy for my faction from -91 to +15 :))) .The profits so far: +15.000 denarii, 2 states accepted to be my puppets including the ERE which alone paid almost 8.000 denarii and 3 factions accepted peace. Not bad, eh ?
That is not bad at all! I admit I always take on soldiers habitually, but I will try this for sure. Going from -91 to +15 is intense. If you can recreate this let me know for sure, I'll add it to the tip section of my diplomacy guide.
I like the ideas, maybe another video explaining the history of the Warhammer world. Something like the history for Rome (Punic wars, from republic to empire...) but for this new setting.
enrion2 I would have to do a lot of reading for that lol ... I'll have to see if it's doable because I'm not well versed in warhammer lore.
Voth V. Doesn't matter then, keep up the good work!
The swordsmen are not the common ones it is the halbardirs. And they do not work as shock troops. but kind of in the same way as spearmen, they are meant to hold the line. And the helblaster volley gun is not a Gatling gun, but more of a shoot gun cannon. It can shoot 3 times before having to reload and each time it shoots it shoots 3 cannon balls.
bjarked47 If they use the same engine they used for Attila and balance units anything like it ... halbardirs won't hold any lines. I'm thinking about it in TW terms how they may be used ... I imagine them playing as dane axes. In warhammer you can give them a shield and make them more defensive tho, it's flexible, I just went with the most common use. And I do realize the volley gun is not actually a full auto gatling gun, but in the context of how long it takes a cannon to fire it is certainly a lot faster to rotate and fire.
