    I've played all the main Yakuza games, from the PS2 era on, and I'm very fond of them; however I completely agree, their stories are usually a garbled mess, and it irks me that fans are not willing to recognize the writing is so sub par, even when it damages the series as a whole. The last straw for me were the stories of Gaiden and Infinite Wealth: I won't spoil anything, but I think they were a nostalgia pandering disappointment. Thanks for the video, much appreciated!

    You know how can you fix it? Only Majima has a bag with weapons. He doesn't show up. Saejima sees this and thinks that its now or never. He grabs anything hard hitting he can find lying around and barges into the ramen shop. Beating everyone in a very brutal manner all by himself. He gets arrested and while he's out Katsuragi shoots everyone lying around. He then proceeds to tell the police and bribe his way into claiming that "Saejima shot everyone". Something along those lines. That way we could've finally touched this gray area of borderline commiting murder but not directcly by your hand (but by your actions).

      And to Arai shooting Munakata we could've seen a bloody wound on a Munakata's face or an eye. It would be bloody and it would look similar enough to a gunshot wound, but in reality is just an ugly bruise. idfk if that makes any sense, but its better than fucking nothing

    • @manthedan4828
      @manthedan4828 24 дні тому

      Yeah this honestly might've been better lol. One alternative I was thinking of was just for Saejima to get real bullets and Katsuragi wear a bullet proof vest. He could still get shot by Sugiuchi and Munakata could still realize the suspicious circumstances of this event. The only issues are considering how Ueno survives (or if he even needs to survive for Katsuragi to gain more power) and how Munakata would be able to figure out Arai's betrayal without that dumb fakeout death. So it wouldn't completely fix the issue, but simple changes like this could fix so much.

I actually like the idea of Aizawa as a final villain and his motivations if the story actually bothered to set them up prior to the ending. It feels like he's gone through a whole character arc off screen and we only get to see the ending without context. Also it makes Kurosawa seem pretty dumb for relying on Aizawa for his master plan.

    this is a nice video, but a lot of your problems with the series seem to come from your lack of understanding of certain scenes and context of such. about ten minutes in you talk about the scene that takes place in the past with Eren and Armin. that isnt a metaphor. that literally happened. eren, having the founding titan abilities, is able to manipulate the memories of most eldians (maybe all, i forget) and erased these interactions from their memories as not to allow them to fuck up his plan. just thought I'd let you know, there's definitely some stuff you didn't pick up on and stuff doesn't just come out of nowhere like you think it does.

    • @manthedan4828
      @manthedan4828 3 місяці тому

      I probably should've worded that point better, I wasn't questioning if that entire scene was metaphor, I know that it actually happened. I was only referring to the aspect of Eren and Armin looking like their younger selves in the Paths, I wasn't sure what the deal with that was and wanted to point it out while acknowledging that it doesn't matter that much to the plot. But if you think there's anything else I missed I'd definitely like to hear it.

    I think Suzaku role in the series is heavily missunderstood. You're supposed to find him annoying, but if he was the main character, you'd root for him. Suzaku is a critique of the flawed main protagonists in other meccha/shonen animes. He's the Shinji from evangelion, the Setsuna from gundam zero etc.. and personally I'd say he's even more akin to Eren in AOT than Lelouch is, which at first might seem like a strange comparison, but AOT was inspired heavily from code geass, and the ending of that show is what would happen if someone "dumber"/"less strategically minded" attempted the same as Lelouch succeded in doing. I think the point of Code Geass, (especially considering the movies like Ressurection) is that human violence is fractally inevitable. This is evident by the antagonists in Ressurection, which was a country relying on weaponsales (aka violence) to thrive. In a poethic way, Lelouch flipped the table in R2 from being the small rebellions of the world, to have the warmongers of the world be the small rebellions. This is a much better feat than for instance Eren Jager, or dr.Manhattan whom had the same plan, but rather equallized the playingfield instead of "winning material"

    Coming back to this video, I wanna say ‘cause I didn’t the first time that your analysis is good. I didn’t really articulate issues with some of the side plots, just felt they were weak, so it was nice to see someone put this into words for me. Honestly I think the best comparison for this story is Chainsaw Man, and maybe the fundamental difference is tone. I don’t mind that CSM is a bit sleazy or any other things I might normally criticize, because CSM has a very specific tone. Heavenly Delusion has typical anime comedy moments, while CSM has a more heightened/absurdist world which justifies a lot. The story in general is so over the top that its characters’ reactions may feel muted, but it works somehow. Like, in such a crazy world, how could you actually parse your feelings? Also Denji has an emotional core that’s understandable, even if a lot of the time he’s a shitbag teen boy. You feel that he wants a home and a simple life. Also his character development is exceedingly rare for a shonen, revolving around growing past dependency and realizing that horny as he is, he wants intimacy more than just sex. I’m not even a huge CSM fan, but I was able to write all that praise about it, and could say more. What is there to say about Heavenly Delusion? It has an almost non-existent tone. Kiriko and Maru have goals, but no emotional anchor which makes me care about them reaching those goals. It all just feels half-hearted, such a weird contrast from the beautiful art. Anyway thanks for this video because it’s the only place I’ve seen anyone criticize the anime/manga. I watched it with a friend and felt pressured to enjoy it so this is cathartic to me lol.

      Thank you! I do have to say you made a good comparison between Chainsaw Man and Heavenly Delusion; it explains well why the weirdness of Chainsaw Man works and why it doesn't in Heavenly Delusion. Similar to you I've also seen such positive reception for this series, and my confusion of that is partially what motivated me to make this video. I'm actually working on a follow up video currently to better elaborate on my criticisms in this video along with some new ones, but I'm glad that you still liked my analysis here. :)

      @@manthedan4828 Subbed! Do you think you might cover how that lady doctor (the one with the amputated leg) was introduced as a serious character, and then immediately the show switched to portraying her as a lunatic? Like you, I thought bringing in themes of misuse of technology/medicine was an interesting idea, but then the story threw it away. Not to have a nuanced discussion of the issue, but to frame the protesters as idiots or opportunists. I don’t want to go too far but it feels like the story is kinda… conservative? Maybe it’s not the right word, but I’m always skeptical of a story that pulls “what if the protesters were the REAL bad guys.” It could be done well, but rarely is. Then there’s the Kiruko stuff. I get why people interested in gender issues found it intriguing, but I don’t think the character is remotely trans or anything. So far, the gender swap hasn’t done anything for me. If the author wanted to write a trans/gender non-conforming character, he could have just done that, but instead we get “miracle body switch” in a story that’s supposed to be at least semi-grounded in realism. Kiruko/Haruki says they feel like a boy, but they’re treated like a girl, constantly harassed, and even care about being “pretty” as a woman. Along with that, there’s all the sexual assault as you mentioned and weird stuff like the “breeding pig” story. I’m not going to say it should be #cancelled, I’m just saying I find it weird that anime fans are acting like it’s more progressive than it actually is. Anyway, complaining more about the show hahaha. I don’t think we have a lot of overlapping interests but I noticed you used Vinland Saga footage in this vid! I’m a huge fan of the manga 🥰

    I had two main issues with this show: unoriginality and fan service. Nothing in the story felt fresh. It’s not that post-apocalypse or creepy schools can’t still be interesting, it’s that this story didn’t do anything new with those set ups. The school storyline was more interesting but somehow there was never any tension. None of the characters were stand out, though a couple were okay. I didn’t enjoy the Maru and Kiriko plot line at all-very few interesting or unique stories. Every episode is just going to be “they get a clue but it doesn’t lead them where they want.” That would be fine if they were lovable characters in an exciting story but they weren’t. The biggest issue with Kiriko and Maru is the fan service and romance angle. Now, those things aren’t bad by themselves. It makes sense for Maru to have a crush, and I don’t always hate fan service (I think it works in Chainsaw Man because it ties into the story/themes). But it was such a turn off here. Kiriko actually being her younger brother is the only interesting idea the story introduced but it never got explored. The backstory was weird and inhuman. Then the story just becomes “let’s tease Maru with Kiriko naked and make sex jokes.” I didn’t feel a bond between them aside from that really. The story tried for it but they just felt like flat characters-they’re clearly supposed to be cool but that just doesn’t do it for me. This isn’t even a shonen, it’s a seinen, try harder.

    The widespread criticisms and overall lower regard for Code Geass is because of a generation gap, the hype, and the mechs. Remember, at its core, anime is made for teens. The fanbase is largely young at all times. Code Geass is a mecha anime, which is a hated genre in today's anime landscape. Politics/war/strategy dont fit the modern trend towards fantasy and battle shonen. Older animes are only known to the young fanbase when they have hype. When other young people are gassing it up. It's an 00s anime and feels like one. Very few 'classics' survive this lack of hype. When an anime has a fanbase predominantly made up of 30+ men and women, it loses status.Especially with the dated Clamp artstyle. CG is often compared to two currently beloved animes - which hurts it. Lelouch is often compared to Light from Death Note. The ending was copied, largely, by Attack on Titan. Fans of Death Note and AoT are very critical of Code Geass because they feel attacked. Many of them have never seen CG, despite criticizing it, and proudly state they'd never watch it. These AoT superfans attack anything related to CG on reddit or social media. Often with the same cheap insults of "Code Gayass" and "LeDouche." But that hurts a show. Teens are social. Teens ride hype. Teens rarely think for themselves. So when they see a lot of this, they jump on the bandwagon.

    I've watched Code Geass atleast 50+ times at this point since its release and definitely have to agree that it's not a show you can find yourself getting bored of. I have to say after letting the show marinate for so long in my mind since its release my favorite thing about the show has transcended from the ending of the show to being the continuation of it in the 2019 movie (purposefully not saying the title). Don't get me wrong the ending is great and I'm not trying to say that a dead cow needs to be milked, but my god have I been craving for even something as simple as a 12 ep anime series involving Lelouch and C.C. from the movie timeline hunting down geass fragments, and expanding more on Geass lore as a whole which has so much potential for making the series continue on for a long time. It just sounds so absolutely interesting and will fix the biggest flaw of the show, which is the fact Geass wasn't able to be expanded upon (thanks sunrise for giving them no budget). Plus who doesn't want to see more of the ultimate power couple and their teasing antics. 😂

      Yes, you're right. I plan on watching Code Geass a third time (I'm on my second re-watch now) and then I plan on watching 9 other anime, Inuyasha (which I have seen before and I still think I will find it interesting), Fullmetal Alchemist brotherhood, Guilty Crown, Avatar The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, Guren Lagann, Tales of the Abyss the animated series, Ragnarok the Animation and Fruits Basket! But in between I will continue watching Code Geass related content on UA-cam and listening to the soundtracks on spotify, and after each anime, I will re-watch Code Geass another 3 times so I will have seen it at least 30 times! Code Geass is an anime I will never get bored of!

    i think if you view the cat taking the helmet from lelouch and the hat episode on ther eown they do seem very misplaced however if you put it in the theme of things they can give you goosebumps even, the cat episode was designed to show the sides of lelouch aswell as create a bond for the viewer to see between lelouch and suzakue to later destroy it and make it that much more important to you aswell as the more surface level stuff in showing how lelouch has to hide his identity. the hat episode i didnt know even made people upset i think its similar to the helmet episode . however because in season 2 shirley kinda took a back seat they had to make sure she was still likeable and can make her be able to make the viewer happy and hope lelouch will end up with herputting her very quickly to the level of c.c. and kallen so they can make her death hurt the viewer like it hurt lelouch. it made the viewer and lelouch experience the feeling of loosing kallen/c.c. without taking those important charaters from the plot.

    0:19 I think Code Geass is the only show That has no flaws for me what so ever. 1:34 ig by the clip u put in while timing it to u saying some of his solutions were silly, you’re trying to say him geassing himself was bad idea, what I don’t get is, how is that a bad idea? Genuinely how, if anything it was one of the smartest and over the top tactics by Lelouch in a very pressured moment. 5:10 I think not liking a what u call “silly episodes” like cat chasing or hat stealing, is a terrible criticism bc like you admit, cg does a great job at balancing tone shift of the narrative with a sense of realism in dynamic contrast between japan and Britainnian life styles but you also think it doesn’t always do a well job therefore the criticism is valid. Completely disagree with the idea that the tone balance of Cg not being perfect as it in reality has no flaws within them because even the cat chasing ep which the entire event of chasing the cat lasts only 8 mins on screen max while it also is allowing us to digest the foreshadowing of how Lelouch and suzakus relationship in school where they arent against each other and working together is shown and more. This sort of criticism is irrelevant in other shows that have much more goofy scenes in them such as one piece, gintama, atla, monogatori, and in cases with death note which is shorter than CG and cant afford to waste time with “silly” moments still does it and instead of complaining about it, fans always praise it and say they wish they had more of it. So i think its bias to complain about CG tone shift and balance of the narrative when CG does it the best in a most perfect sense of realism involving it while also still adding on to the narrative without seeming as a filler. 7:00 How on earth is the final episode of mao arc the worst episode in the show when it literally gives in sight to suzakus psyche and lets us understand his cognitive dissonance. 7:26 the explanation of maos survival makes perfect sense and is theoretically smart via the fact that in policeman mindset, when they are shooting a target it is in the intent of neutralizing them, not killing them. When Lelouch commanded them to shoot mao, the command of “shoot” regarded to them as neutralizing rather than homocide because thats how the policeman mind works and thats how they’re trained to shoot in protocol and it also explains maos wounds and where he was shot, if you see the episodes 15 and 16 you see the wounds match up on all nonfatal areas of the body such as limbs, it also makes sense for both Lelouch’s character to simply tell them to shoot mao rather than kill because Lelouch was in such rush to save CC that he possibly didnt overthink the commands instructions and result. Also you’re forgetting mao mentioned how he was treated by Britannian medical technology even so, I hope people realize the time skip between eps 15-16 isnt one day thing. 7:45 how is the resolution dumb? 8:05 what questions does Lelouch being able to use Geass on himself of mirror reflection looking directly at his eye balls bring up about the Geass? “None of which the show will elaborate on”, again what? Why would the show need to elaborate on how Lelouch literally uses the geass on himself? It’s literally shown how and I don’t think we need to be spoon fed with dialogue on it because if you watched CG at least more than once you can sorta get the idea of show don’t tell style of writing rather than spoon feeding. So how is this episode not meant to exist or is a mess? 9:11 firstly, it wasn’t accidental that the command happened and it wasn’t even Lelouch that gave a command, what happened was that Lelouch was giving an extreme hypothetical example to euphy to emphasize how serious he was about having such ability and as he gave that hypothetical, the Geass with the mind and will of its own used it to activate itself as form of command to euphy rather than Lelouch doing it out of his will. The reason why his Geass essentially betrayed him is because of the fact that Lelouch technically betrayed his Geass since Lelouch was betraying the vow and mindset he had when he first gained Geass in use, and thus this moment was not a contrivance or convenience. 9:35 Lelouch never gave a joke, again he was giving an extreme hypothetical to emphasize his SERIOUSNESS about his ability to his new ally (euphy) so its not out of character at all

      11:23 how is first half of season 2 flawed? I think with Jeremiah and Marianne plot twist and if it was given more reveals then it would ruin the perfect plot twist that they are and cheapen the idea of plot twist in the show.

    I don’t like nina I don’t hate Suzaku just find him annoying C2 is best girl in series to me Cat + date ep can be skipped with no consequence to missed story. 16 with maou wasn’t great but it set up two arcs in the story. Idk what questions would pop up from 16 and lelouch geass on himself The Euphemia part from what I see is the make or break for most people on whether they like the series or not. Even though most series have major contrivances to keep the story going. S2 Part 1 was good imo however probably wasn’t interesting to most people. Sets up the divide within the black knights, Lelouch not being perfect, revival of the Black knights, answered questions after confusing start, sets up most of S2 with one character alone. Of course part 2 jumps right into it and no real indication happens before shit hits the fan and everything gets put into motion.

      Not liking Nina is equivalent of not liking someone like Lelouch who technically caused more damage than Nina ever did but if you hate her because of her obsession with Euphy then that’s entirely different but just saying a bad person≠bad character and her reasons for obsession is entirely explained feasibly. Although I would say you’re notable for not hating suzaku, i still dont get why u find him annoying? Finding Suzaku annoying for what reason? Bc he is opposed to Lelouch? Well then shouldn’t we be annoyed at every antagonistic figure in media? Finding suzaku annoying because of his false ideals and facade about ends not justifying the means and him being a hypocrite about what he says vs what he does? That gives him depth and complexity and his reasoning for hypocrisy is also warranted through his past traumas as a kid. Why on earth would anyone skip the episode 6 of s1 and episode 12 of season 2? Seriously though, calling it “cat” or “date” episode is reducing it to just that when the so called cat episode with the cat chasing lasts about entirely 8 out of the 24 mins of the episode… why act like theyre filler when theyre cannon events occurring? It shows the racism and prejudice to suzaku, it shows glimpses of how Lelouch and Suzaku work together (foreshadowing their dynamic together for later on in the show) and more. If people only got that the episode was about chasing a cat or just going on dates then I pity them. How was episode 16 with mao arc not great? Especially if like you said, it set up two sequel arcs for the story. Aside from that, mao plays an important role of exposition about Geass power and it’s consequences. What do you mean by “what questions would pop up from 16 and Lelouch geass on himself” ? The Euphy massacre if thats what u were referring to, isnt at all a contrivance bc regardless of Lelouch’s geass activating on its own to force a hypothetical to become an imperative on her is irrelevant in continuation of the story. S2 doesnt consist of the idea of part 1 and part 2 but ig you personally separate it like that, firstly s2 isnt entirely setup by one character, and idk where part 2 starts for you but there was no moment where it jumps right into anything without any indication.

      @@ItzSwxzy I was just going in order of the video. I hate Nina as a character not because of her actions. Everything she does in a way makes sense however her inability to accept criticism, face reality, and open discrimination just don’t appeal to me. The very things you point out are what I find annoying about Suzaku he’s an opportunist he will say one thing then openly go against what he said and continues doing so throughout the series. I was defining S2 part 1 and 2 based on the video part 1 being the first 13 as in the video part 2 14-25. I say you can skip ep 6 because we get the very same idea in the ep Suzaku and Lelouch destroyed the Chinese fed base on, and Euphemias confession. The date episode from my memory had little to no real story significance other then Shirley romance which we both know where that goes. I’ve seen many comments and complaints regarding the Euphemia scene and how it totally ruined the show for most people which is exactly what I said. I don’t see it as contrived personally that is just the major complaint I’ve seen. Ep 16 sets up major points however it pales in comparison to the previous episodes with Maou. Let’s be honest here maou should not have survived past ep 15 and you already got the feeling of how much of a problem Geass could be in Ep 14 they could have killed maou and went straight into kamine Island and gotten the same idea why cause Lelouch and Susakus survival on top of the awakening of V2 signified a significant geass event. Even the first encounter with Maou and after talk with C2 show the significance Lelouch yells at C2 about how horrible of a person she is cause she didn’t finish the job. We get how important geass is within the first 4 eps of the show. The only indication of the death of a certain character is within the ep of death. Even with the death flag it was something I personally didn’t predict. First time watching it was a huge surprise. I don’t believe Jerimiyas loyalty to Marion was ever really indicated until his confrontation with Lelouch. I could be wrong as I can’t remember every dialogue line he had up to that point in the story. We could assume something was up with the knight of 1 but guessing he had a geass wasn’t my first assumption. Probably a few things I missed as I’m at work and tying fast.

      @@pozzytrack0 okay, so you’re just saying you hate a character that is relatable to many people in the inability to accept criticism, face reality, and show hatred via past traumas. Thats cool, ig you have your preference in writing values. Same applies Suzaku to you Ig, also Suzaku being a opportunist is also not inherent because that’s not what he is doing purposely but again thats surface level and blank statement to say thats all his character adds up to. Well you need to understand that the idea we get in ep 6 vs ep 20 (i think it was) is on whole different levels because one demonstrates suzaku with Lelouch himself as he doesn’t have anything against him also theyre in a more relaxed setting vs suzaku working together with Zero meaning u still cannot skip ep 6, idk what u mean by euphys confession. The date episode did have a lot to the real story as significance idk why you think discrediting shirelys romance is valid by hinting at its result unless u also think that it was somehow bad but regardless there was more done in that episode than that alone. Ok, if you were mentioning the Euphy massacre as a voice for general hatred from people who haven’t actually analyzed or understood the scene then thats fine, regardless what I explained still stands for it just in case someone else didn’t get it. Again, As long as you admit that ep16 is great then idrc if you think its not on the same level exactly as the other two eps in that arc. In all honesty Mao should have and it was perfect that he did survive past 15 because he would have less of a significant affect and presence in the show and no I didn’t get the feeling of how badly of a problem geass could be just by ep 14 or 15 so killing off mao that early would be rushed and not as perfect as what actually was done bc the same idea wouldnt have reached. “Why cause Lelouch and suzakus survival on top of the awakening of V2 signified a significant geass event.” This is a terrible point because for one, anyone who reached to this point of the story and nothing passed it yet wouldnt have reached this idea and it would seem as a massive headcanon is being made here without actually seeing how its actually revealed later on in s2 and by that point the ideas regarding geass would be irrelevant to most audience, but even ignoring that, what u said based off the events in ep 18-20 ish in kamine island do NOT involve elaborating on the problems of the Geass as mao arc did, especially when ep 18-20 are too subtle at the time to be simplified as even a Geass event so you can’t just say it signifies a geass event, in short this point doesnt help you argue that ep 16 was irrelevant. The first encounter with mao and conversation with Cc and Lelouch after that does signify those things but it’s not as significant as ep 16. We do not get how important Geass is in the first 4 episodes of the show, we barely even know the full capabilities of Geass and the fact others have it until 14 so that idea is entirely wrong, especially how we later are introduced to the metaphysical nature of Geass in affect with mind and reality which is showcased after s1 in akito the exiled and season 2 (chronologically speaking). “The only indication of the death of a certainty character is within the ep of death” what does that mean? What do you mean by “even with the death flag it was something I personally didnt predict” ? Why would Jeremiah’s loyalty to marianne need yo be so indicated until the actual plot twist itself? The definition of plot twist itself is unexpected development in the story, as for indicating it, there were few and they were mostly subtle and nuanced. Jeremiah was stated to be a pure blooded loyalist faction, this means that he was more similar to royal blood in a sense that the royal family is also from the pure blood that originated from the first ever emperor of Britainnia. Meaning that Jeremiah must have had a deem sense of loyalty to at least someone from the faction or at least that he must have had deem passion and sense of duty to Britainnia itself but that itself was obvious based off the things he said, regardless i dont think this plot twist was remotely supposed to be spoonfed of indication or so obvious.

    I discovered this anime, and thought it's the best thing I have seen for a while, but then ... well, to make it short: too perverted. The whole nee-san thing is creeping me out. Young boys being in love with older girls is fine, but this is next level, when the girl is in fact a boy, and that said boy is in the body of the (again) older nee-san he was in love with, and some autoerotic shit is going on. I have seen some people making this about transsexuality ... really? Creepy and disturbing. I'm open regarding erotic content, but this made me very uncomfortable. I came back three times to watch this series, had to give up at the end when the children in the facility started to talk about sexual shit. Kudos to the creators, though, for making this so creepy, I felt like my nails were rolling up. I have no idea what's the purpose of this series. I dislike every character. I agree with you, that none of them has something interesting going on somehow. I just can't get invested for some reason. I wanted to start my 4th attempt to watch this, then I thought I would look on youtube if I'm the only one who hates this.
