4:59 So you are burning outside air and not depleting the interior oxygen, I like that.
Hi, I'm a new subscriber. I'm very curious. If you soak the carbon wick in olive oil, it will light easily without using an accelerant.?

Will a box cutter or ordinary scissors easily cut through 5mm carbon felt ?
Interesting...but I'm going to stick with my Makita 18v emergency light and the 8 5.0aH batteries. Thanks for the video.
Was it just me or? After listening for a while I was expecting to see Leonardo DiCaprio’s face lol
How many ounces of oil for that 9 hours ?
For 9 hours of bird time you need about two and a half ounces
These are still very stinky. Olive oil still puts out a very undesirable fume. I suggest using these on an outdoor patio with significant ventilation!
Yes there's a smell about everything and olive oil has a smell also but I have found that I can burn olive oil all day long and it won't give me a cold unlike if I used lamp oil lamp oil always gave me a cold by the end of the day...
How much oil do you add to it to burn for 16 hours ?
1 oz equates to 4 hours so if you put 2 oz in that's 8 hours and if you put 4 oz in that is 16 hours right the oil cannot go clear up to the top of the pipe just almost.
Is that an xL ?
Yes extra large candle it's a wide mouth candle is what it is and yes if you put 4 oz of olive oil in there it will last 16 hours...
How long will the one you have there burn for ? I built the copper ones that you maid but I used peanut oil and it wont stay a light ? maybe I have to longer pipe Iam going to try the olive oil now to see if that works Iam going to make a heater for my spa pool , i am going to use about 4 or 5 of your lamps and on top i will have copper pipe that will go into sand to transfar the heat and then run water through the pipe . thank you for showing us your Lamps
To keep a flame with olive oil you just have to have an inch and a half long pipe and I always use half inch tubing
@tinbender998 thanks , but how long will it burn for with that small amount of oil in it ?
It's been for every 1 oz of olive oil 4 hours.. burn time so if you fill it up just a little bit more and have 2 oz in there you will have 8 hours of burn time in that small vessel.... And really it does not have to stop right there you can just simply pour more in after whatever how many hours you can just pour more in and make it last a lot more hours than just 8...
@tinbender998 Wow!!. I hope I can get it to work , Thanks again
So how do you adjust the wick?? There's no adjuster.
You have to use your fingers it's messy but it's worth it paper towels are good..,
How does the light work?
You just use a little bit of accelerant like lamp oil to light the forever wick and enjoy your flame.
@@tinbender998 yeah thank you Just saw another video to understand how it works
Cheers, great invention life changing infact! I plan to combine with a sand reservoir so the sand soaks up the heat and releases slowly, burning used cooking oil run thru a coffee filter collected not feed to the warms anymore.
NICE! 👍💯👍💯👍💯👍 Where do you get that flame thrower?
North 40 it only cost about $3
Cool😊🏁
UA-cam finally recommended actually good content
👍💯👍💯👍💯👍💯👍!!!!
Thanks
Excellent video
Thank you very much!
Gday, just on the small amount of oil in the bottom of the jar to get it to work.where you have the wire handle with the rings to stabilise the wick, could you not put a rounded float there instead with another ring higher to keep it upright in the jar? That way you could fill the jar more. Just an idea.
That's food for thought I've done all the testing and oil does not like to rise up past an inch and a half that's why my inserts are only an inch and a half or less 1 in is preferable but an inch and a half is acceptable that's just the characteristics of oil olive oil to be specific that's all I ever use....,.
The UA-cam algorithm is getting creative! I was recommended this after watching some ham radio videos about making antennas.. I guess it's not much different, a lot of precisely made copper tubing and coils :) I love working with copper, don't know what it is about it, but it's beautiful & satisfying to work with. After watching this, I'm curious; - Do you ever have problems with the glass cracking from heat? Looks like normal soda glass, but I guess if it's nice and thick and the flame is level it's OK? - Is the wick any special material? It looked like felt or thick cotton? (unless it's a trade secret of course!) Also, in case it's of use to you: copper can pretty easily be coated in silver (radio guys like it because it's more conductive, but it might also look cool in a forever lamp too). I think it was a paste of cream of tartar and silver nitrate from memory, but the Canadian Conservation Institute has a good page about the details. Anyway, hi from Australia!
That is awesome the thickness of the jar is just the same as a canning jar I've never had one crack and I've burned a lot of them they've never cracked or broken. The wick that I used in this one is carbon felt it's a welding blanket I just cut up in strips. You can also use quarter inch round oil wicks. Cotton
i did this once with steel wool but the wool let the flame get too hot and it gets too large too fast to be practical for anything
Can you please make a jig, the round one and the flower jig too and put that for sale on your website? The Ukraine war is about to go NUCLEAR, SERIOUSLY! China is about to take Taiwan so your invention will be a God saver. Thank you
Food for thought.. thank you.
How long does the inch of oil last? This is an awesome idea for when the power goes out. It's easy to carry and stable.
1 oz of olive oil with a flame of 3/4 in to 1 in will last you four hours... With this system.
Hold the gas on the light 3 or so sec. Then, pull all the way. Helps the spark reach fuel .
Thank you for your comment I appreciate it thank you
You can use these around eight of these carbon felt candles in the bottom of a cook pot, then put a cooking rack, or cake cooler on the top, and you have a candle stove. To add heat, add another candle, to lower the heat blow out, or remove the candle.
Awesome work bro! Thanks for sharing.
Can you use peanut oil? ..instead..
You can use any oil you want as long as you can get it to burn you can burn anything in these lamps or candles ..
Very cool but you could have had better camera angles and cut the video in half.. took to long
Yes I agree my first video wasn't very good but it did go viral and I'm very happy with that lol thank you for your comment....
Worst camera work ever.. it would have been nice to see what you were doing
I know it was pretty bad LOL LOL but the result was pretty cool I'm pretty happy I'm just going to leave it the way it is LOL. Thank you for your comment..
This is extremely cool! Being a woman though, would it be safe to add a scent, like an essential oil?
Yes, absolutely
Fire light is the best light
Thank you
Thank you for putting out these videos Steve! I really enjoy watching them
Glad you like them!
Truly appreciate your ingenuity and creativity. Thank you so much
You're very welcome I am finding out that my lard lamp is just identical to my Crisco lamp but it seems that lard Burns a lot cleaner it's pretty cool the flame is a lot whiter.
How many Sq. Feet does it heat
It pretty much keeps my house warm it's a different type of warm but it's steady warm we have a living room that's 21x13 and we have our bedroom which is I don't know anyways and our kitchen and small kitchen I have no idea 1100 ft I think..
Extra virgin or refined olive oil?
I use Great value light tasting olive oil from Walmart it's just the cheapest stuff you can get off the shelf.,
Thank's. Be healthy be safe out there.
Dangerous to use in doors or in a close room carbon dioxide poisoning use at your own risk .😢 I tried using this in doors my whole house began to smell horrible carbon dioxide poisoning everywhere .😢😮 Maybe this is good to use outside in case of emergency to heat up food or water . 🤔 I am trying this DIY project but it is not working properly .😮 The problem is not the carbon plumbing fireproof fabric which yes it takes a long time to degrade and is a wonderful choice for long-term survival. The problem is the fuel that you use . 🤔 Olive oil is way too thick and will not travel up your wick and your wick will continually turn off and get dry .😮 I also tried vegetable oil and it does the same thing dries out and turns off .😮 I am planning to try rubbing alcohol or some lamp fluid since it is more thinner and maybe it will absorb and go upward and through the carbon plumbing fabric .🤔 I honestly cannot understand why it works for you. 🤔 But it does not work for me . Are you using something other than a Olive oil on the wick.🤔 Thank you for your DIY project will try different types of fuel.
I use only olive oil there is no problems if you follow my instructions carefully the copper pipe needs to be the refrigerator half inch tubing, and it needs to be cut at one and a half inch no taller than that, it should work just fine after that you are tubing cannot be any higher than an inch and a half
@@tinbender998 normal olive oil or extra virgin?
Normal olive oil just the cheapest stuff you can get your burning it in a lamp or a candle you're not using it for cooking..
It's really important to keep the half inch tubing only 1 inch and a half high
Thank you. Excellent content. Saw your first one. I could have made a lamp.
Thank you
Ive been mucking about with candle and oil lamps for the past few years. Started recently dabbling with an oil candle using cooking oil. This is a great idea. Thanks
That is awesome!
YOU The man 💪
Thank you that's awesome
Love his videos too. Have been really enjoying your's also. Thanks from Michigan
Awesome! Thank you!
Update on this DIY project tried this out. 🤔 Be careful quite dangerous carbon dioxide poisoning not safe indoors or in a closed room your room will begin to smell horrible and really smokey.😮 Also the plumbing carbon filter does not absorb any type of liquid upward and the tip will dry out and the flame will go off .🤔 I think that the plumbing carbon filter can be used outside only to be safe . Maybe in a can or in a metal container add a piece of the carbon filter is some of your fuel light can be used for cook your food outside or boil your water in a emergency situation only. 🤔 Very nice job. 🙂 I am planning to do one of these myself as a DIY project hopefully it will work out . 🤔 It is something that we all need . 🤔 Specially in emergency situations . 🤔 And if it does last years it is worth purchasing as well as making it yourself . 🙂 God bless you for the great idea God bless the American people . 🇺🇲🙂🇺🇲
Thank you and I know you can do it it's a good project
