It’s not always easy to keep students motivated and engaged in their learning. Every teacher
worries about students feeling bored or disinterested, or being reluctant to participate or to
learn. This workshop will present contemporary research about student engagement and
motivation, and consider the implications of this research for Special Religious Education.
Participants will receive a range of practical strategies and activities that they can use in
their classes to help keep their students engaged and positive.
Andrew Martin has been a teacher of Religious Education and Music in Catholic Schools for more than twenty years. He has been a Head of Creative Arts, Religious Education Coordinator, Director of Mission, and Assistant Principal, but what Andrew
enjoys more than anything else is being part of a positive classroom environment where students can thrive in their learning. Andrew is currently a Religious Education Officer for Sydney Catholic Schools, and works with Religion teachers all over the Archdiocese of Sydney.
