The Willow Tree Green
Приєднався 9 жов 2011
Hi! I’m Shelley and thanks for taking a look at my little channel. I am a bit obsessed with sewing since it became my primary hobby in Feb 2023 but I am also a bit of a hobby collector so I make junk journals, paint water colour and acrylic and have recently started crochet! I hope you enjoy watching me talk about things I’ve made and done. I usually post on a Monday (as it’s my day off) so I try to be consistent, you may also get the odd one in between however if I’m super excited about something!
I’ve always taken inspiration from the other wonderful sewing and junk journal UA-camrs so wanted to also see if I can inspire or help someone with what I do and make as well!

Rope Bowls using up my scraps and learning Quilt Blocks with a bonus fabric haul at the end
Hi and thanks for joining me this week. I have had a bit of a different week with no garment making this time around but a whole lot of rope bowls and a bit of quilt making as I was fascinated by the quilts shown at the festival of quilts and love how they look so wanted to give it a go myself (quite a challenge for someone who can't sew or cut a straight line!). I also had a couple of deliveries that I thought I would share with you.
I hope you find this interesting.
Thanks for watching.

One Fabric Two Dresses, a review of the Rosery Apparel Willow Dress and New Look N6651 Shirt Dress

I managed to get two dresses out of the fabric I picked up in remnant pieces during a visit to Brighton recently so thought I would share what I made! Firstly I am sharing my review of the @RoseryApparel Willow Dress, mistakes were made during the making of this dress for sure however even with my mismatching darts and potentially mismatched front skirt pieces I really like this dress and will ...

Love your baskets,so many amazing. Your quilt looks amazing too. Loving your fabrics too. Can't wait yo see what you make. Hope you're feeling somewhat better now. Retail and sewing therapy is always good. 🎉❤
@@bridgetwhite5547 Thank you ☺️ I’ve a lot of ideas so I will definitely be sharing new makes soon!
Those bowls are really cool 😮😊 What a lovely way to use up scraps 🥰
@@alisonkemp1671 thank you! yes it really helped knock down those little tiny scraps I just couldn’t throw away but also couldn’t use 😂 and now I also have bowls I can put them, it’s a fun project to try 😊
Great Baskets,i have so many scraps and rolls of macrame string so you have inspired me to try it out when I get a chance. Hope you're feeling better now.
Thank you! It is a great use of scraps so I say try it! The only fiddly bit is starting it off 😊
The baskets look fab…what a great idea as gifts…..very good. The quilt is great too….❤😊
Thank you! I think a few will be going out as gifts 😊
Love your quilted blanket. I’ve watched UA-cams of people sewing rope baskets and often thought I should have a go, especially as already have the macrame rope from previous venture. I just love watching talented people make ‘stuff’ any ‘stuff’ really
It’s definitely worth a go as I was surprised how easy it was, it’s just a bit fiddly at the start 😊 thanks for your lovely comment
Love your baskets and quilt, well done! Sometimes it does you good to try a different craft and now I’m googling rope baskets lol. Hope you’re feeling better.
It’s definitely nice to try something new sometimes! I recommend giving this a go as once you’re past the middle bit it’s quite relaxing to do 😊
The dress is adorable. I have never bought a Rosary apparel pattern because it does not look like it will fit me. Your dress came out so pretty, and the second dress is just as nice.
@@theseamstressatthecottage thank you, I do think the rosary apparel dress needs a little work to fit a curvier body but I love the simple nature of the pattern which should make those adjustments easier to do 😊
Two lovely dresses Shelley, in particular the shape of the Willow dress really suits you. I always have to do a sway back adjustment on my daughters garments that I make which gets rid of the 'bunching' at the back. There are lots of tutorials on here. I really enjoy your enthusiasm. Thank you for your vlogs.
Thank you! I never thought of the sway back adjustment I will look into that!
Lovely makes.🎉
Thank you 😊
Well done for spotting the directional nature of the fabric! Love that it’s called the “Willow” dress ❤ it looks absolutely fabulous and the neckline is perfection 🎉 I can’t see any issues with the darts in that fabric 😊
Thank 😊 I think I got away with it as the fabric is black 😮💨 I just need to wash them a few bazillion times to hopefully get rid of the crunchyness of the cotton if that is what it is
I think your fabric is lovely …. Think you’ve got away with the gaping pocket issue because the fabric is so busy 😉 and for what it’s worth, I prefer your shirt dress to the Tilly dress
Thank you ☺️ I actually really like this shirt dress pattern a lot too it’s nice to not have so much gathering!
Love your video and makes 🎉
Thank you!
Thanks so much for the mention 😀 your shirt/t-shirt refashion was really interesting. I’ve not seen that done before 😀
@@lovesredsews thanks for watching, I hadn’t really thought about using an actual pattern till I watched your vlog so while it’s not everyone’s cup of tea it was a fun experiment 😂 the tshirt/shirt mash up is actually really comfy I’m glad I did it finally😊
You’re a very resourceful person! I do love the Donny shirt. It’s definitely a little too cropped for me too, but easily solved. I have had to resort to a FBA too in order for it not to hang weirdly off my boobs Yours is fab, I love that fabric
@@deniseblake6214 thank you, I enjoy the creative process of sewing so sometimes just like to have a go! The Donny is a great one for remnants but I must remember to grade it properly next time I lengthen it😂
Hey!! Thanks so much for the shout out! You did a great job and I agree…the bleach was perfect and it looks great on you!!
@@shabbyroadstudio no worries, I love watching your upcycles thanks for the inspiration! ☺️
Great makes. Love the idea of recycling the T shirt into a dress.
@@gailh3048 thank you! The T-shirt was too tight to wear as a tshirt and the gingham just seemed a match so I’m really glad I did it 😄
I love the laundry day t as a dress, what a great outfit with leggings ❤
@@alwaysinthecraftroom it’s very comfy which is what matters! 😄
Shelley, the top you made looks good on you. What size did you choose when you were making your LN laundry day tee?
@@ZeldaSews Hi Zelda I make a size 14 at the shoulder grading out to a 16 at the hip
@@TheWillowtreeGreen Thanks!
All lovely makes. The madras check top gorgeous. Thank you🎉
@@bridgetwhite5547 thank you it’s brighter than I normally wear which I think is what is making me not sure but I will wear this 😊
Lovely dresses ❤
@@lovesredsews thank you ☺️
Both dresses are stunning on you... great makes 😊
@@SewCraftyGal thank you so much 😊
Thanks for your review of your M7969, very useful as I’m thinking of making another one. My first came out far too big. There’s a lady on UA-cam Tube that makes cardigans with the M7969 and voluminous sleeves. Just google the pattern and she pops up. Your M7969 dress is lovely and I like the idea of a pinafore style dress using the Bardon (a favourite of mine too)
@@gailh3048 thank you and I love meeting another Bardon dress lover 😀! I hope your dress turns out great and thanks for the tip I’ll have a look for that cardigan!
Your dress is lovely, colour suits you too …. I always bind edges the same way you do
@@deniseblake6214 thank you ☺️ It just makes a much neater finish for me
That blue dress looks lovely on you
@@angelalysandrou4830 thank you so much 😊
Hi Shelley. Great video. Really enjoyed it. I’m new to your channel. Will keep watching.
Thank you ☺️ I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks for sharing your space
@@pjacksreads536 thank you for watching, it’s very small and messy but it works for me 😁
I made that m7969 this year also and love it. Yours are beautiful also. I want to make it again someday.
@@pjacksreads536 thank you! ☺️ it’s definitely one of my favourite patterns 😃
Hi Shelley, Debbie here instead of tracing my patterns I use wrapping paper and put the pattern on top and then I use a spiked tracing wheel to go along the lines in my size. Remove the pattern and cut out following the holes. You do need a cutting mat or cardboard under it though. Saves so much money I was spending loads on different types of tracing paper x x
@@DeeDee-mo6tn hi Debbie 😊thanks for the advice! That’s a great idea, I’ve been thinking of getting a tracing wheel 😃
I love the fabric you used on your original McCalls dress. I have this pattern but haven’t made it up yet! I also cancelled my BTPD subscription this month. I decided to cancel all my subscriptions actually & have signed up to Dream Wardrobe instead, which I’m really excited about x
@@lovesredsews I look forward to hearing your take on Dream Wardrobe and may well end up trying that one too!
@@TheWillowtreeGreen I have a feeling I’m going to love it 😻
If you like the McCalls dress you may like the style arc hope it also is raglan . I have made quite a few of them
Ooh thanks for the recommendation I’ll take a look!😊
I found the Hope dress bodice a bit too loose fitting for my taste so swapped the bodice by hacking the Maison Fauve Chelsea blouse - it’s probably my favourite gathered skirt dress!
@@moira7083 thanks for the advice!
Shelley, I missed the boat on that pattern from McCall's also. I like M7226.
Hi Zelda, it’s never too late to give it a go though is it 😊 thanks for watching
I have the Mcalls wrap over dress pattern too …. I vaguely remember getting it free from somewhere but haven’t made it up yet …. I’m not sure why really but you might have just given me the nudge I need …for me, the Madras is mainly blue and it is gorgeous … it says oversize shirt to me
I remember when it was released as a freebie, I do recommend it it’s a lovely dress, but do check the finished garment measurements as it can be roomy and I think I sized down on thee original version from my measurements even then 😊
The gingham dress looks lovely! You did really well to make the adjustments, well done. The pattern placement and buttons are perfect!
Thank you, I’m very happy how it turned out 😊
Love that white based dress on you. I never get around to watching Friday sews vlogs on a Friday so would never know when it was uploaded! Great sweatshirt too, love how you did the pattern blocking 😊
Thank you! I have had a couple say they like the white dress now, maybe I am wrong about it and it does suit me after all! 😊
Friday Sews is such a great tag- no-one worries if it’s actually a Friday- well I don’t anyway. Wonderfully creative dresses - inspires me to upcycle. Will be taking apart a sweater I made last year (now too big which is wonderful as I feel so much better) and creating a new one in a different pattern for my upcoming trip to Ireland to see my beautiful grandchildren. 😊 Happy Sewing. Lynne
Congratulations on losing weight! I seem to have no willpower for that at the moment 😅 thank you for watching and saying that about #fridaysews good luck with your upcycling!
Love your dresses, especially the first one. The sweatshirt is great too.
Thank you, the first one is exactly as the pattern and it’s a great dress, I just need to find the right fabric to make it again like that one 😊
Wow you look fabulous in the first dress! The second one is lovely as well! and Cool idea with the sweatshirt
Thanks so much 😊 I do like this type of dress i will most likely be making more!
Love the dress nice vlog😊s
Thank you! 😊
Agree with Simple Life fabrics. Lovely fabrics an great customer service 🙂
Thank you! I will be making more of the Megan Nielsen Matilda dresses I think, I just need to find the right fabric 😊
Love your Jarrah, I’ve got some of the mustard version of your fabric, still haven’t decided what to use it for. The dress on your mannequin looks lovely on yiu

Thank you! It is fascinating the patterns you can make😊
The navy dress is stunning Shelly. I absolutely love it! I hope you get the pen marks out (though they’re not that noticeable to anyone who doesn’t sew I’m sure)
Thank you! I’ll let you know! It’s weird as that red pen disappeared from other fabrics so maybe it’s just the dark blue as I don’t see that colour much
Sounds like you had a lovely holiday. Your dresses are very pretty
@@lovesredsews thank you! It was nice to get away 😊
Great holiday time. ❤

Glad you enjoyed your holiday. After watching your last video I went and ordered the fabric you made your t-shirt dress in and the reversible fabric in the mustard colour, the fabrics are gorgeous from them
@@angelalysandrou4830 the viscose jersey is beautiful and probably should’ve been something fancier than a tshirt dress but I know I’ll wear it more this way ☺️ I haven’t used the double sided one yet, it’s too hot to make jumpers 😂 let me know what you make!
Glad you had a good time in my home county Cornwall. Lanhydrock is lovely, we walk our dogs around there every evening. Your majes are lovely as always. Look forward to your next video. Thankyou 🎉
