Stranger in My Own Land with Fida Jiryis
In this very moving and heartwarming interview I had the opportunity to discuss with Fida Jiyris her work, a beautifully written memoir that tells the story of her and her family journey, which is also the story of Palestine, from the Nakba to the present-a seventy-five-year tale of conflict, exodus, occupation, return and search for belonging, seen through the eyes of one writer and her family. Fida reveals how her father, Sabri, a PLO leader and advisor to Yasser Arafat, chose exile in 1970 because of his work. Her own childhood in Beirut was shaped by regional tensions, the Lebanese Civil War and the 1982 Israeli invasion, which led to her mother’s death. Thirteen years later, the family made an unexpected return to Fassouta, their village of origin in the Galilee. But Fida, twenty-two years old and full of love for her country, had no idea what she was getting into.
Stranger in My Own Land chronicles a desperate, at times surreal, search for a homeland between the Galilee, the West Bank and the diaspora, asking difficult questions about what the right of return would mean for the millions of Palestinians waiting to come ‘home’.

Dwelling on The Past: Memory and Dispossession with Yair Agmon

What is cultural memory? How do settlers use it in East Jerusalem to dispossess Palestinians? In this episode I interview film maker and scholar Yair Agmon. These now‑forgotten voices, which include an aid‑worker‑turned‑academic with Palestinian Sephardic roots, a former Yid...

How can anyone consider themselves an impartial historian and use a term like "Naqba". Even the UN doesn't use that term.

  • @tzadiko

As a historian, why does your talk use the anachronistic term "Palestinian" when discussing the Partion Plan? That word was completely unknown in its current meaning at that time. The word used then was "Arab". Using the word "Palestinian" to refer to events long before Palestinian Nationalism existed is to rewrite history. Sorry to say, but I think this is an intentional effort on your point, in order to forward your political agenda under the color of unbiased historical research

This Ilan Pappe is a moron. Typical assimilated euroacculturated type. And NOT Mizrahi ancient Yishuv who have had to put up with “Dhemmitude”. And by the way, “Palestinian” is an adherent to “Palestinianism”, the political movement chartered and ratified by the Arab League in 1964 with the declared objective of the destruction of Israel and Jew Killing, and still is. Arabs were and are the Colonizing People of the south Levant. This Moron Pappe let’s his ideologies overcome his credibility as a historian, and only people who know nothing about Levantine histories and Peoples don’t know he is a phony.

There is no time limit in the definition of colonialism therefor the British will always be considered colonialists in Australia. And the Palestinian are no exception the Arabs occupied Palestine by force in the seventh century and brought a different language, a different culture and a different genetics. The origin of Arab culture is in the Arabian Peninsula The source of the Arabic language is in the Arabian Peninsula The source of the religion of Islam in the Arabian Peninsula. On the other hand, the Jews' cultural and genetic origin and the language of the Jews were all created in Levant (Palestine). They did not come from outside, but were created in Levant (Palestine). The Hebrew language is the only Canaanite language that survived. The Jews lived in the land continuously before the Arabs before Islam and Christianity. Jews are considered indigenous by definition because the origin of the Hebrew language, The culture and religion of the Jews originated in the Levant. True, Jews have been a minority among Muslims and Christians most of the years but the fact that they are a minority does not negate their seniority they are the oldest residents. And the fact that the Arabs are a majority does not make them natives they will always be colonialists like the British in Australia. The palestinian try to change the defenition of colonialism so that because it happened long ago in the seventh century they became natives. There is no time limit to colonialism and they are not considered natives under the definition.!!

Professor Dorit Naaman is a professor at Queen's University (Canada), in the Department of Film and Media. She is a supporter of BDS. She advocates for the boycott of Israel, not just in Judea and Samaria, but the entire country. She signed a petition accusing Israel of perpetrating “atrocities” in Gaza and urging the United Nations to impose sanctions on Israel. She signed a petition calling on the European Council, Commission and the European Parliament to pressure Israel into surrendering to Hamas’ demands. (Hamas calls on the ethnic cleansing of Israel of Jews.) She uses the fact that she herself is Israeli as a legitimization of her attack of the Jewish state. Parents and students should know the people molding and poisoning the minds of young people into hating the only true democracy in the Middle East and the world's lone Jewish state. Naaman and many other Israeli professors ride the wave of unexamined, blind hatred for the Jewish State and inflate their status on campuses abroad and in Israel.
