I am getting the same references after following this as well.

To think that the original red necks were progressive. The term red neck comes from the red hankerchiefs they wore around their necks to show they were on strike.

Thank you very much for sharing this. I have a single page from a missal which looks very similar to the pages in this book - including the Celtic-style knotwork on the large black initials ('K' on mine, for Kyrie). My best guess for mine is 15th-16th century, and either French or Spanish. Now that I've seen this volume, I'm leaning towards the latter. My page has extremely dark staining in the lower right corner of the page, almost certainly from years of oils from the fingers of the people who have turned the page. Such a shame that it was cut out of a full missal. In the illuminated letter, which is blue, with a thin blue frame around it, you can see the shadow of very complex decoration and and around the letter. I suspect that there may have been gilding, which has been scraped off. Either that, or a very faded yellow-orange.
Lovely, so lovely
So I rememer there was a long interivew with Jerry West, I think it was on the basketball court of his college, but I can't find it? Does anyone know where it is? Thank you.
This video was really good. Thanks
Thank you so much for making and posting this.
I miss the decorated covers and artistic value of the pages. I don’t like the new prints.
This footage is incredible! I'm picturing myself walking past some of those very same buildings 52-56 years after this footage was taken.
I met Jerry West at a sports festival in West Virginia in 1984.
He was genuine and humble when he visited the WVU Libraries. Is that how you found him?
Always Audre 🙏🏾💖✨
Jerry West is the MAN 👞♂️
I am so grateful that this video of the 1946 Storer College Commencement exercise was preserved. My father was among the graduates. Does anyone know the name of the jazz song playing in the background? Take care and be blessed!
Hi James, Thank you for your interest. We are delighted you like the video and have such a personal connection to it. I apologize we don't have the information about the music source. Have you explored the Storer College Digital Collection at storercollege.lib.wvu.edu/? I suspect you have, and want to be sure. Take care and be blessed.
The song is "Almost a Year Ago" by John Daley and the 41 Players. Hope this helps. What an amazing legacy to have your Dad be a graduate of Storer College!!!
Hello! Might the 1948 Storer College Commencement video be available…as I have family in that class and would love to see it!
Very cool
Amazed how limited their basketball skills were back then...
Ok I suppose someone must say thank you. Your clear explanation & dulcet tone has got me started
Really Neat Footage.
There is a misconception regarding basketball one that even a player as great as Larry Bird made. And that is that basketball is a black man's sport. No sports is reserved for any one race, sports especially at the higher levels are played by the people that excel at them the most. Now I agree with what Isaiah Thomas and Dennis Rodman said wholeheartedly. if Larry Bird were a black man he wouldn't have been as revered as he was he would have been just another great player like them. And that has nothing to do with Larry Bird or Jerry West or any of the other Caucasian players that gave us so much pleasure over the years with their wondrous exploits. However as is the case with everything related to America these stereotypes are part of the mainstream, the fabric and the life blood of the American racialist way of life. These two extraordinary ball players and the others that were just as dominate during their tenure in the NBA. Were just caught in the middle in their respective sport in the same way as Jackie Robinson in his and Tiger Woods in his. Racism and the racist that perpetuate it forward is the problem not Jackie Robinson, or Jerry West or any of the greats that ever played sports. Maybe Ty Cobb, hahaha, hahaha hahaha I heard that he was a real asshole.
For all those that think that this footage is sooo ancient. Just remember the difference in years here from these people and this video, to 1980, is the same as 1980 to now.
I know what you mean. I think of that every time I watch footage from WW2. The older you get....
The audio of the commentary is not in sync with what is showing on the screen so this is almost impossible to follow.

37.9 Points per game - Havlicek and Sam Jones COMBINED only managed 47 as the leading PAIR of scorers for the Celtics. Just shy of 5 rebounds per game - for a GUARD. 7.4 ASSISTS per game - the best Celtic there was RUSSELL with 5. Anyone that says West didn't EARN that Finals MVP is crazy (not that I've heard even a handful make that particular claim).

Enjoyed your discussion. I’m a poet specializing in Japanese forms of poetic endeavor: haiku, tanka, haibun, kyoka, senryu. I hope you don’t mind me sharing a tanka and my haiku a tribute poem to Bashō’s frog with commentary by the late Jane Reichold who also considered my poem among her top 10 haiku of all time. What an honor. Here’s the Bashō poem and commentary: Bashō,s frog four hundred years of ripples - -Al Fogel “At first the idea of picking only 10 of my favorite haiku seemed a rather daunting task. How could I review all the haiku I have read in my life and decide that there were only 10 that were outstanding? Then realized I was already getting a steady stream of excellent haiku day by day through the AHA forum. The puns and write-offs based on Basho's most famous haiku are so numerous I would have said that nothing new could be said with this method, but here Al Fogel proved me wrong. Perhaps part of my delight in this haiku lies in the fact that I agree with him. Here he is saying one thing about realism-ripples are on a pond after a frog jumps in, but because it refers back to Basho and his famous haiku, he is also saying something about the haiku and authors who have followed him. We, and our work, are just ripples while Basho holds the honor of inventing the idea of "the sound of a frog leaping is the sound of water". As haiku spreads around the world, making ripples in more and larger ponds, its ripples are wider-including us all. But his last word reminds us all that we are only ripples and our lives are that ephemeral. It will be the frogs that will remain”. My tanka/kyoka: returning home from a Jackson Pollock exhibition I smear my face with paint and I turn into art -All love in isolation from Miami Beach, Florida. Al
As a kid, I worshipped him and Havlicek, both were incredible players in that era.
Yes indeed both clutch shooters...lock down defenders...great scorers....both would be huge stars in any era
@@senseichess8688 Yeah West and Havlicek's game would translate so greatly
@@dusk6159 yes sir
Someone asked Jerry West who was his toughest guy to score on--he said "After two years in the league NOBODY"!
Pete Newell won back to back titles if I recall correctly .
I remember watching WVU with West on TV. Their out of bounds play was an entry pass to Jerry at the top of the key who rarely missed a jump shot from there. He was a great one.
I also remember watching on a small black & white TV set with rabbit ears. lol That one point loss to the Cal Bears was one of Jerry' s biggest disappointment as well as Mountaineer fans everywhere. Back in those days, the WVU basketball games were even heard down deep in the coal mines.
I don't know y they call him Mr Clutch he only won one title?
In a team sport, titles are not a measure of greatness. It requires a team to win them or lose them. He was called Mr. Clutch because he could and did hit the clutch many times.
Perhaps this excerpt from the 1972 all star game will help you. He sinks the winning basket in the last 9 seconds. Commentary by Bill Russell (11 titles)....as soon as West shoots Russell says "2 points". THAT'S why he won MVP and THAT'S why they call him Mr. Clutch. ua-cam.com/video/KXN0pbV5MJg/v-deo.html
@@docmalthus wow thanks!!!!
what aurbach did as a coach didn't equal what west did as a player
Red won 16 NBA championships as GM , 9 as a coach
Really? Think about that. And I have the utmost respect for Jerry West. The man was unbelievable night after night. I watched him for years on KTLA 5 in Los Angeles
Red was the master...arguably the greatest basketball mind ever and talent evaluator
you are on crack..... troll

Like the music.
I was watching when he made that mid court shot. I was in room full of fans and no one was surprised.
I was at the game and thought that Reed was going to block it. Who takes a chance on a two-point foul trying to block a 60 foot shot. Reed thought that it might go in.
