Eifflaender 2.5cc - 1949 - 1950 Knokke Winning Engine
A video showing Alan Hewitts 2.5cc engine that won the speed class at the inaugural control line champs at Knokke in Belgium, Built by Gig Eifflaender prior to the advent of P.A.W. THe video contains footage of the internals of the engine, as well as the engine running after some TLC from the P.A.W. factory.

      I would advise having a look at the AMA (American Modellors Association) to see if they have any recommendations or to make your own the recipe would be. 25% Castor oil 33% Ether 42% Paraffin Ignition Improver 1.8% Hope this helps Tony

    You said, that the fuel level must be a Little bit under the the carburetor but not to low. Whats going on, if you are climbing, nose up with the airplane?? Thanks!

      Once the engine is running, the engine will draw fuel in, if the tank is too high it can siphon into the engine while it is not running and will flood it.

    I have three .55's bought through the late Eric Clutton. What size prop are you running in this video? I have run mine on everything from a 5X3 to a 6-4. 5X3 seems to make the most power, with the larger props giving a better idle.

    Awesome video. I was cleaning my work room the other day, and came across some used diesels I got several years ago. One of them is the .55. I got it running yesterday after a bit too much fiddling. Very excited to find this video. Can't wait to get out and try it again! Looking forward to showing up at my field with some diesel powered planes next summer. :)

    Fantastic engine,you sent me one about four years ago with rc throttle it’s so easy to start ,use it in a half wave from 1954 ,sport high wing three channel,it always gets more interest than just another electric clone at the field. You are much appreciated,thanks.

    I would be hard pressed to think of any other item, I've come across in life, where one manufacturers product seemed so far ahead of its competitors. Your Dad's product transformed our experiences from a miserable catalogue of frustrations, failures and expensive breakages to an actual viable hobby. I may have to route out my 1975 pedigree 0.090" 1.5 cc ; I know the whereabouts at my Fathers house, it still hides. THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES!

    I acquired a PAW .15 FF/CL last weekend, that - usual story - had sat around for ages not run, and the fellow who had it said he wasn't sure if it was any good, it was all seized, etc etc. Well thanks, I said, I'll see if i could get it going, thanks very much.. I did not know it was a PAW at the time but suspected so, and confirmed on Sceptreflight's very helpful site when I got home. That led me to this video - which is really nicely done and I enjoyed it thoroughly. So it wasn't even siezed, just gummy stiff. One capful of nitrate thinner down the intake and a shot in the cylinder, and a few wiggles of the prop later it turned over fine with a nice pop. So later this afternoon, it was time to have a go at it, having mounted it up for running last night. Filled the tank, opened the needle 2-3/4 turns, the compression was stuck but not siezed and was a bit high but ok. Three turns of the prop with the intake choked, two drops in the intake and turned it over slowly once, and then gave it a hearty flip. Holy mackerel - instant running! So today was my first ever one flip diesel start, never thought that was going to happen but I was hopeful, and prepared, after watching this. Wow what a sweet handling diesel it is, well done folks. It is below freezing outside BTW, so no tach readings and only about 2 minutes run time total in two short runs. But I ran the compression up and down then settled on a slightly rich and under-compressed setting for "whee fun" running. After the first tank ran out (a very small Perfect tank), I refueled, choke flipped, and got an instant replay of the first start. So.. surprised and delighted I was to find out it handled just like you show here! I now find myself fantasizing about a .60 TBR R/C.

    We used to refer to too much compression as running hard. Too little running soft. When in a model you have to set the mixture a tad rich because it leans out in flight. Great tutorial. I'll have to get my old PAW 1.49 running soon

      Good grief, talk about parallel existences: I was on a bit of a nostalgia trip - remembering being envious of my friend's PAW1.49 when I only ever had a DC Sabre - and I've got Hocus Pocus, too!

    make a proper exhaust stack for this engine.. or else it will be an oily mess..

      If you have any experience with diesels you will know that an exhaust stack is comparable to an ashtray on a motorbike

    thanks a lot! very nice video, a paw 55 was my first diesel engine, i got it from Mr. Clutton some years ago. Can you make a video about RC carburator? had troble with my PAW 100, when go from slow to hi seems to fail, as get rich and stop... Thanks and keep going!
